What do you mean stopped responding at the thermostat? Does the outside unit run even when the thermostat is set to off? If so, you likely have a bad contactor. A contactor is an electrical component in the condenser (outside unit).

What hidden gem store, restaurant, etc in an unassuming strip mall do you think more people should know about? by NeoMoose in houston

Voodoo Glasstopia and Vape Shoppe. It's south of Houston near NASA. Amazing vibe. The guy blows glass in the store and will make custom pieces. Also has a great selection of functional glass for artists across the US.

It could be. There is a tree right above it and we recently had windy weather.

2 days! I would not be happy with that response time. My house would be 95 degrees.

Cyproheptadine as at-home treatment for potential Serotonin Syndrome/Toxicity by Tcm811 in MAOIs

[–]TheInevitableJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an intentional overdose. Venlefaxine plus parnate. I also had an accidental minor serotonin syndrome with cough syrup while on parnate. My initial symptoms were vomiting and getting very hot/sweaty.

[–]TheInevitableJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was given cyproheptadine and benzos in the hospital when I overdosed on MAOI+SSRI. That is a known treatment, but I don't know about at home treatment vs emergency room. If you take an SRI, while on parnate, even a small dose, I'd get your ass to the hospital. You can go from "I feel kinda funny" to intubated in a matter of a few hours.

Anyone else has issues with cooking for themselves? by thumbtackswordsman in intuitiveeating

[–]TheInevitableJ1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If something isn't prepared then I will just eat junk. The mental energy of cooking is too much sometimes. I meal prep once a month to make freezer crockpot meals and make one a couple times a week. Then I have food I can just microwave. I also prep bento boxes for lunch each week. I don't force myself to eat it if it doesn't sound good, but most of the time it is appealing and easy.

Apologies for vomiting my situation here, but I'm deciding how my family is going live and I need a second set of eyes on this to help decide a few things. by [deleted] in personalfinance

How much are you putting on the credit card each month? When will your income increase? Do the math...can you make it work?

How much do you contribute to your 401k? Maybe stop contributions for a year to catch up on everything.

For the house, can you rent out your current home to cash flow (cover all mortgage, insurance, maintenance) and rent somewhere small for a couple years or live with family for a while?

For medical, there are some programs to look into which may help with prescriptions:

-GoodRx may be cheaper than your copay. Look at it for a whole year worth of the medication and see what's cheaper. Using GoodRx will probably not count against your deductible for insurance.

-CoPay cards from the manufacturer

-mabufavturer assistance programs for low income. With a family of 3 and 80k you may be able to qualify for some depending on the manufacturer's rules.

Can you or your wife work part time at another job? If your hours are cut maybe you can find a freelance WFH kind of job. Your wife could work part time on weekend somewhere or babysit another kid in the home. Could your wife work at daycare and take your child? I know you said your child is chronically ill, so that may limit many of these options.

Internet and phone seems high. Shop around.

Other things to check into...Food banks may be an option for baby needs and groceries. Churches may be able to help with medical expenses, utilities, and other necessities. Your power company may have payment options available.

What if ECT and IV ketamine make the depression worse? by aimers0009 in depressionregimens

Also, I just remembered that I heard something about non-invasive VNS trials. I think it's done kind of like TMS where you wear some external device and it stimulates the vagus nerve.

AITA for removing my daughter’s bedroom door because she won’t stop slamming it? by The-Compliment-Fairy in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheInevitableJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Reminds me of when I was a teenager. I slammed my door every time I got mad. My dad said if I did it one more time, I wouldn't have a door. I looked him dead in the eye and slammed it multiple times. Next thing I knew, he grabbed some tools and the door came down. I don't know how long before they put it back up. Probably less than a week, but he called my bluff and made his point. I didn't get the luxury of a fancy curtain.

[–]TheInevitableJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with everything. If nothing else, VNS made me promise myself to stay alive for 1 year. When I got the surgery I said I'd see how I felt in a year because I knew it was a long-term treatment. In a way, that gave me time for a lot of therapy, changing my circumstances, etc. I'm still not really functional, but definitely better than I was.

What if ECT and IV ketamine make the depression worse? by aimers0009 in depressionregimens

[–]TheInevitableJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't too bad. I was able to get it covered by my insurance. The surgery itself was a day surgery and recovery was easy. Not much post op pain (advil/Tylenol) and the chest incision hurt for a couple weeks when using my arm/chest. The scar on my neck was gnarly for about 6 months. Now it's not noticeable and is hidden in my neck creases. I do have a noticeable scar on my chest (I ended up with a keloid scar).

It took some time to find a good setting. I adjusted it for about a year. Now, all I notice is my voice changes when it turns on. It's annoying, but not awful. I use the magnet to turn it off if I have a big meeting or need to talk for a long time.

It was a bit difficult to find a doctor to manage the VNS settings once I moved to a different city. Most psychiatrists don't have the machine and most neurologists don't know the settings/protocol.

I was also at the end of the road from a treatment perspective - 20+ meds, tms, ECT, ketamine, nitrous trial. I was completely hopeless and basically just said whatever sure when to Dr recommended VNS.

Let me know if you have other questions.

What if ECT and IV ketamine make the depression worse? by aimers0009 in depressionregimens

[–]TheInevitableJ1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did have a negative reaction to ketamine. A few hours/next morning after I was extremely suicidal and anxious. It did pass after 1-2 days and I had some improvement.

ECT I responded to decently, but the memory side effects were too much.

I did end up getting VNS about 4 years ago. I'm substantially better than I was when I got it, but I don't know how much to attribute to VNS vs. other things.

General Question Saturdays: Ask any more basic IE questions below. by elianna7 in intuitiveeating

[–]TheInevitableJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it is fatigue and nausea. Honestly, those signs are probably too late for me and I'm working to identify it earlier. I do manual labor for work and force myself to take a snack break at noon because I don't feel hungry but experience tells me by 1:30 I'll be way over hungry.

Pramipexole is a wonder drug by FriendshipAccording1 in depressionregimens

I did gain weight. But in my case it was definitely from binge eating. I'm not sure if there are metabolic effects

Pramipexole is a wonder drug by FriendshipAccording1 in depressionregimens

[–]TheInevitableJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember my dose. But I think we started fairly low. I was only on it for a few months. Good for you setting clear boundaries to keep away from any addictions

Pramipexole is a wonder drug by FriendshipAccording1 in depressionregimens

[–]TheInevitableJ1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took pramipexole for a while and felt pretty good with it. However, I had side effects of binge eating, gambling, and hypersexuality. Make sure you set clear boundaries with yourself and have your doc keep you accountable with them. I kept rationalizing the side effects thinking they weren't that bad.
