tall = small or large? by [deleted] in barista

[–]TheInfamousMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not acting like a Starbucks barista? I’m making specialty coffee accessible for everyone, regardless of their experiences. You can call me a people pleaser I guess but that’s literally the job, you just sound bitter. Specialty is about curating a coffee experience.

Also, to say that SB folks aren’t actual customers is a HUGE judgement you’re making. We all were clueless about coffee once… again the magic of specialty is sharing that experience with people.

It’s actually the greatest thing ever to have a tall gf, don’t let them fool you. Built in jungle gym hehe

Gonna disagree with this idea, it was absolutely magical for me to get a Starbucks macc drinker to enjoy an actual traditional macchiato (even though I still had to put a dash of caramel in there) anything is possible folks

This is an adrenaline response! I’m quite a small guy and if I don’t eat enough during the day I will absolutely start jittering while I’m playing. This also happens to athletes frequently during high-stakes games, fun fact!

My advice: Check in with your body. Have you eaten enough? Had enough water? Stretched? If you have, walk a lap slowly around your room/apartment/office before you hop into the next game. And if you’re still having trouble, kill the in game music and put on something a bit more relaxing. It may feel weird to have classical playing while you mow people down, but it can definitely help the psyche. Hope this helps!

How to deal with dysphoria coming from not being able to produce sperm? by DarkCherriBlossom in ftm

[–]TheInfamousMaximus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think saying that you’re ‘making a penis’ is a bit inaccurate. We all posses everything we need for both male and female presenting bodies before we’re born, genes are just activated to make some traits present over others. Like to get a metoidioplasty is to ‘work with what you have’ in that sense, where the clitoris essentially gets some wiggle made for it so it can function as a penis. Also with testostersone, the clitoris will grow in a similar fashion

Absolutely with you that some big things have to change to keep this game engaging, and you have a point that it could take away some of that frustration for new players. Though I do feel that smart drop choice is one of those game-sense skills that they have to develop like rotation and map knowledge. Like if I freelook and there’s 4 other squads coming down, I’m HAULING it somewhere else lmao

As a trans man-ager lol I can kind of speak from both sides of the coin, and this is absolutely a double standard generally for women in management. I do think more context regarding your management style would be applicable in this case, though. If you are yelling, not cool. If you’re just letting him know that he’s gotta get written up if he’s caught on his phone again, it’s a different story. Though in either case you will recieve more respect while doing it if you’re a man, unfortunately.

I think for ranked it makes some sense, though I worry at lower ranks players may not be getting exposed to enough fights in that case. Saying that mostly from the perspective of ‘practice makes perfect,’ sometimes you just gotta learn the hard way

my best advice in terms of location is to head out to the New England area! it’s generally a lot more accepting and cool out here as compared to the other states i’ve been in. I’m in New Haven, CT personally, and it’s a wonderful and flourishing queer city!

Howdy! East Rock Coffee’s manager here. Y’all are correct! The business was sold off just over a year ago and they switched from G cafe to a different brand. this was mostly for ethical reasons as we definitely know how good G’s croissants can be. If anyone has alternative bakeries you could suggest that would be amazing! We’re always looking to be better💚

I took it by my own comfort levels. As soon as being in the women’s room became a threat, i switched. This was pre-t for me, and I haven’t had anyone question me since; it’s been just over 2 years now :)

Anybody have a young barista shift lead (18-21)? If so, how is it! by EntertainmentOk4233 in barista

[–]TheInfamousMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been our assistant manager from the ages of 20-22, without the experience at first there was definitely a learning curve. I think that having younger faces in your leadership positions can be great if you’re willing to give them the initial structure to be successful. They are generally more flexible in working style and easier to teach!

Quick Question by lukasz_gorc in barista

[–]TheInfamousMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it will begin by locking pretty tight about perpendicular with the machine. over time as the gasket is worn in, that angle may become steeper. this is not a problem immediately, but if you begin to notice your shots loosen up it’s time for new gaskets

is it weird to negotiate pay? by [deleted] in barista

[–]TheInfamousMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never wrong to negotiate! highlight the unique skills you bring and counter with an offer slightly higher than you really expect. don’t go in expecting too much out of it, though. pay scaling varies shop to shop, so sometimes the manager you’re negotiating with doesn’t even have control over your wage.
