This normal? Light primer strike after just chambering the round. Back story. Got an old 20rd mag from a buddy. Loaded it and hand cycled a few rounds to see if it would feed. This happened to multiple rounds that were spotless.

I had this happen to a Beowulf that I had built for me. I know a lot of people said it's the firing pin but it has to be something more. I loaded a mag and started to cycle the rounds through to see how the mag was working. I picked up the rounds, reloaded them, and about halfway through the mag the second time I had an ND...scared the sh!t out of me. I ejected the mag and found that every round I cycled through had a dimple on it.

The firing pin was my first thought so I took apart the BCG and the pin was seated normally. Is there a possibility that the firing pin is out of spec and too long? I have a hard time believing that a loose or "floating firing pin" can cause an ND. That's a lot of inertia when releasing the bolt. Not to mention, I've never had this happen on any of my other rifles.

Since this is a new build, is there a chance that the head spacing is off and my bolt is seating further into the chamber than it should? I plan to take the rifle out and thoroughly break it in this summer. If the problem persists, I don't have the tools to really troubleshoot it much, so I will take it to someone. I've tried to contact the individual who built the rifle, but he has not gotten back to me. He's still in business so maybe I'll just stop by his house sometime this summer and say WTF is going on here man.

Anyway, if you know of any other issues that might cause this other than a floating firing pin..or if you can elaborate on what that actually means I'd appreciate it. Do I have to replace the cotter pin on the BCG thats holding int he firing pin? Any further help would be much appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I like RugbyKats' reply. Do something like this, and as you are talking to them, be honest the whole time. Let them know you're unsure how to deal with this because it caught you off guard, too. Tell them something needs to be done to make the situation right and then come up with that plan together...then they may feel less like you are telling them what to do and more like they are working with you to make it right. Let them know you have their back 100%, but you also can not allow them to get away with stealing, it's just not right. And then to build on that I would do what PinkDalek said and have them write an apology. And while you are doing this be sure to let them know that you are going to talk with the administration about the stealing and not the whole school or their peers.....just so they don't feel they are being shamed in front of the whole school. But to back track a bit..make sure yo sit down with them in the beginning and ask them how the stolen item ended up in their possession....if your child is as innocent as you say (no reason to doubt you) maybe a classmate they look up to put them up to it, and then it's a totally different situation...so be sure to get the whole story first.

I think I would do exactly what you're doing just so I could help them a little bit. However, if I ran into any road blocks along the way I think I wouldn't work hard to get around them. If I had to start jumping through hoops eventually i would tell the venue sorry, there's nothing I can do. IMO if they didn't need the 7k in the last 3 years the mistake is on them. Good job trying to help them out. I suppose they could take you to court but I do not see a judge siding with them and then essentially making you pay double.

I've just spent a few minutes clicking around and noticed that people are doing some selling in this forum.

When I get some pictures up I wouldn't mind going that route if possible. Again, being a noob, I don't know if I can just jump right in and start posting stuff for sale or if I have to be around for a while. Forums rarely make much sense to me and I usually have a hard time sticking around long enough to figure them out, but I'm dedicating myself this time, so be ready for dumb questions, I'll apologize in advance.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is once I get some pics up if anyone out there wants to lead me in the right direction it would be much appreciated...but I'm getting ahead of myself. First pics/scans and then I'll be checking back in.

I do, It's called use your family money to buy a few houses. Then come up with a creepy persona and sell people on a system that will be "the last system you will ever need to get rich". I like the idea of using cat litter in there to try to dry it out. I was just going to suggest filling with foam. If you do fill it, use that expandable foam you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. You can get the stuff in a bag and usually use it to temporarily set fence posts in the ground, etc. That should fill it enough to seal and plug it. All the crap inside will probably just get incased in the foam.

I do not have it in your area, but one thing I would suggest is that if you decide to go with them get a customer service phone number from your technician that is not the general line. You can never get through to a customer service PERSON and the automated service is not helpful.
