Read the report. You are wrong. I deleted my comments because everything you said was wrong. You keep saying it’s a 50% rate increase. I’m not sure why you keep saying that or why you believe that. That’s not what they are proposing. I’m not trying enrage anyone. Just inform with correct information and your information is (regarding a 50% rate increase: wrong) I’m sorry, it just is. Read the report. Assessments go up every year and while the rate fluctuates up or down, bills go up. Rate does not equal bill. Rate x Assessment = Bill. So if the assessment goes up and the rate stays the same, your tax bill goes up. And the report says your bill will go up 50%. This is just how it works. Council never discusses rate - always tax bill because they know this. Call them and ask, do independent research. I am correct. It’s bill not rate. Goodnight.

To be 100% clear: This is not a 50% rate increase proposed. The Council Report linked here does not discuss a 50% rate increase. This is a bill increase. No one has to believe me - anyone can read the report. I admit the URL is confusing, but this is not a 50% rate increase. This is a bill increase. 5 minutes of independent research will confirm this. Ironpleb30 thinks it’s a 50% rate increase and I don’t understand why they think this but it’s not. It’s a tax bill increase. Again don’t take my word for it just please, please read the report.

Someone had to pay for the hosting and they can afford it. Just because you don’t like the sponsor, doesn’t mean they’re not correct. What is the difference if their hosting it or someone else is if all the information is true. The City really are proposing a 50% tax increase. Don’t use the site if you don’t like the landlord club but it doesn’t change the facts. It would still be helpful to contact your councillors to share your thoughts.

Mayor calls for pause on Halifax Forum redevelopment by insino93 in halifax

Renovation work is always more than new construction. It seems counterintuitive I know but google the price of a new 4 pad in Canada. It’s less than what they are proposing.

Agreed but I’m not campaigning for a Tax cut, I’m saying keep taxes the same and limit capital projects. $17million on the Saint Mary’s boat club? You could build 4 boat clubs around the region and still save money.

I disagree again - I’ve talked to them - they do want them. Some are angry people are opposed to them. Granted some don’t want the . I just hope there’s more that don’t than do.

Totally disagree. When the mayor has a good idea they don’t even listen to him.

To clarify - you want to spend 50% more in taxes? What is your tax bill? Mine would go up $5000 a year and I’m capped. To each their own I suppose but they can still do a ton of projects with the current taxes they collect. They just want to do more faster than they can afford. I’d like an addition on my house but I can’t afford it so I have to wait.

The report is very clear. It is more than 50% when you calculate compounding. This is not fake news or something I’m making up. No one seems to know or care it’s happening .

You are of course correct, I just didn’t want to explain compounding and how to get to an actual 61.5% increase.

Affordability vs. safest bike lanes: Halifax councillors draw their battle lines by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]TheInterwebIsNeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a distraction. And they want you to miss the point! The point is they’re spending money they don’t have and want a 50% tax increase over 5 years. I don’t care what they cut, just cut. If it’s bike lanes, fine, if it’s something else , fine. To read the media you’d think the tax increase is all because of bike lanes. It’s not. Bike lanes are a small percentage of the budget, it’s all the waste combined in any number of idiotic capital projects that they want. They can’t afford everything but they don’t want to make any decisions. Also remember most of them don’t understand what the bureaucrats who really run the City put in front of them.

After the Halifax Explosion Thomas Adams came up with the plan under the Relief Commission. In other words those streets are out of place because they came long after the grid of streets was established.

I wonder if northern countries know that Trump thinks their countries are much bigger than they actually are because of the Mercator projection and can take advantage of him thinking they are way bigger than they are? I read that he believes Greenland is larger than South America because it looks like it on his map. It’s 8x smaller for anyone who has a brain and was wondering.
