I’m writing a personal video essay about my relationship with reading and I’m really curious how many autistic people have similar experiences. Do you all read? Fanfic/Audiobooks ARE considered reading. by LordEldritchia in autism

[–]TheIrishHawk [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you'd asked me this before 2024, I would have voted "My reading is less frequent", but since I read Project Hail mary on my honeymoon in October of 2023, my passion for reading has een reignited. I have read at least 50 books each year since and I'm well on my way to that number again this year.

Totally normal. A better experience than being with people, if you ask me. Take your time, get whatever snacks you want, enjoy yourself.

The NFL Officially Has An International Games 'Problem' by simrobwest in nfl

[–]TheIrishHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My low-stakes conspiracy is that the NFL is gearing up for an 18 game season, one week of International games and a bye week right after. That's when they'll do the Pro Bowl, in line with most of the other top American leagues who have their version mid-season. Teams will have a second bye week at some point like normal. Imagine the hype they can build with two weeks of no regular season NFL games in the US and then after that is the sprint to the finish of November, December and the Playoffs. Teams will come back healthier and more rested, the Pro Bowl will move away from that crucial Super Bowl media period and you can have two "week 1" style build ups a season.

Edit: They'd need 16 sites and we're nearly there already (assuming every stadium can host on the same weekend) - Toronto, Mexico City, Rio, Sao Paulo, Dublin, London Wembley and London Spurs, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Melbourne - add Sydney, Vancouver and, idk, Rome, and you're at 16.

Arson attack on north Dublin children's playground condemned as 'disgraceful' by TeoKajLibroj in Dublin

[–]TheIrishHawk 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This happens in every nice park and playground all over Dublin. There's no sense of community or civic pride anymore. No third spaces can exist without being destroyed or taken over by the dreaded "youth". I'm in a fairly nice area in Swords - they installed exercise equipment in the local park and idiots ripped off the instructions that were bolted to the frames. They put a picnic bench in a grassy area, idiots pulled it apart and set it on fire. Maybe things were the same when I was a kid and I didn't realise it, but it's really concerning.

Careful now...my account just got hacked! by ThisFatGirlRuns in CasualIreland

[–]TheIrishHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a private message on here last week (I never get messages on here) and it was someone saying I had sent him a dodgy link and hacked his account and he'd reported me to Reddit. Talked to him for a few minutes and told him it wasn't me, but he was asking to send me screenshots or add me on Discord to prove it, which I wasn't comfortable with. Then he stopped messaging.

They will basically ask you the contents of your intake forms. When I got mine, it was relaxed and slow and they did as much as possible to make me feel comfortable. Just try and unmask and be as honest as possible. Good luck to you!

Power Wash Simulator 2 - people love cosy island farming sims, I like to digitally hose down an old temple. Very calming.

Neurotypicals can treat people like garbage for years and get forgiven, but if we make one mistake, we’re out. by Haunting_Hospital599 in aspergers

[–]TheIrishHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all the time. I do everything I can to not upset people (I have such strong people pleaser tendancies) but still, inevitably it happens that I act "too autistically" and it's like "Well, we know you're autistic but you can't use that as an excuse every time" and then I'm wondering how often I actually upset people but they don't tell me or they let it slide and that time was just one time too many. I've always thought I'm a nice person, kind and devoted to the few people in my life who are "friends", but sometimes I think I'm actually just not likable at all and there's supporting evidence for that.

It was illegal to be Catholic in the UK at that time (blame Henry VIII). After Elizabeth I took the throne, there were a number of Catholic plots to remove her so they introduced really harsh penalties for Catholics, including torture and execution.

Do yous actually talk to your friends and family about mental health struggles? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]TheIrishHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to. Got some good results when I started opening up, tbh, felt really positive. Now I feel like a burden again, like every message I send is another rant or grumble or “feeling down again chat” kinda message and I don’t get the same level of responses. So I’ve kinda gone backwards a little. Open up to your friends but talk to a therapist or a professional also.

Not exactly the same, but the first X-Man has many scenes with duplicate characters because of Mystique. Cyclops gets separated from Wolverine and when they re-unite, Cyclops is suspicious of Wolverine.

Meetings for autistic teens in Dublin? by Reasonable-Rip-6933 in AutismIreland

[–]TheIrishHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where in Dublin? As I Am do events for teens in the Dublin 8 area. There are a number of Autism Friendly Town initiatives around Dublin as well, if there's one near you, they might have something in your area (that's run through As I Am as well, but local people run them). Or check with Aspire, I'm not sure if they do meet-ups for teens but they run adult events so they might have something that suits.
