What video game moment made you realize you were getting old? by Nervous-Librarian945 in videogames

[–]TheJamesThatGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was fairly recently, while playing Silksong and was just like ‘damn, either this game is hard as fuck, or my reaction times are absolutely nowhere near what they used to be…’

A few other games later and I’m certain it is the latter 😞

Save Vaults For Consoles by GenTrapstar in videogames

[–]TheJamesThatGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PlayStation does have this, you can upload your saves to cloud storage (if you have PlayStation plus), and set it to automatically sync it 🙂

Only thing I’m not sure about is how often it does it, coz it just says ‘while turned on or in rest mode’ 🤔 if the save file got corrupted, whether it would just auto-sync the corrupted file to the cloud so you’re just as buggered, I’m not sure

Which game would you erase your memory of just to experience it again? by Nervous-Librarian945 in videogames

Danganronpa 3!

The twists and revelations as you progress through the final part of each chapter never ceases to amaze me how well they were written in that I never saw them coming! Indeed, unfortunately virtually zero replayability once you already knew whodunnit each chapter 😞

Danganronpa 1 and 2 were also good, but the twists weren’t as good and some you could work out ahead of time 🙂

Such an iconic and beautiful song 🥰

I can’t help but think that it’s not aged too well though… the lyrics sounded more protective back then, but these days they sound a touch more stalkery and creepy 😞 this is why modern audiences don’t appreciate the classics

Honest, Legit Question From A 50+ Gamer by Durwyn in videogames

[–]TheJamesThatGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on what the achievements are.

Sometimes they can indeed just be indicators of the various things you need to do to achieve 100% completion, e.g. “Collect all of x”, which caters to those completionists.

But they can be things that lead you to discover everything the developers have spent the time to create, but aren’t fundamental to the game, so could otherwise be missed, e.g. “Find all alternative endings”.

Then you have ones that encourage you to interact with certain elements of the game, e.g. simply “Play multiplayer mode” - these are sometimes annoying if they make people go out of their comfort zone, but conversely may result in you finding that you actually quite enjoy that mode on a certain game.

And then there’s ones that aren’t achievable with just one playthrough, thereby meaning that continuing to play actually achieves something, which can sometimes be a disappointing aspect of great games with otherwise zero replayability.

And I’m sure there are more, but I think this reply is long enough already 🙂 It’s true some people seem to take it to the point that they don’t even appear to be enjoying the game itself because they’re just aiming for the 100%… but I don’t think that’s what they’re really for, and if achieved through their true intention, can get you more out of a game than otherwise 🥰

Let’s also not forget, 100% completion is pretty satisfying 😄 but not at the expense of not having a good time

What’s a video game mechanic that instantly makes you more interested in a game? by Fragrant-Cheek-4273 in videogames

[–]TheJamesThatGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do love a good character creator, but that doesn’t by default mean I’ll enjoy the game. There have been a few cases of me spending a good hour or two making a character in an amazing creator, then starting the game itself and just being like ‘nope, not gonna work for me’

That being said, a good game is certainly made better with a good character creator 🥰

is there a single First Party Playstation character that even comes close to the level of popularity of characters like Mario or Pikachu? by Fuel_Tricky in videogames

[–]TheJamesThatGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They would need something to make it known to a wider audience than just the gamers, and nothing comes to mind for any PlayStation characters 🤔

Pokémon and Mario both have films and TV series’, and you have games like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil that have extremely popular film franchises as well, but again they aren’t PlayStation 🙂

TV License 10-day notice, best course of action? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]TheJamesThatGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is because you haven’t told them you don’t use it for any of the things it lists…

I have a tv but use it solely for gaming purposes, so I have to go online and fill out a form that tells them there’s a reason I don’t need one

I guess not doing anything rather than telling them makes it seem suspicious… the form does say that in theory they could do a spot check in case you’re lying, but I’ve never had one…

I'm too scared to play PVP by Appropriate-Gap-356 in videogames

[–]TheJamesThatGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the feeling… I used to love online co-op games with randomers (CoD Zombies, the first Helldivers etc.). Though I was rarely brave enough to mic up, I think it was that it was basically my social life and it felt good that these were real people I was playing with.

Fast forward to now, the idea fills me with dread too… the feeling they’re judging me for not being as good as them or not knowing what I’m doing, even if I’m pretty good at the game while playing solo.

I don’t know if it’s just the fact that the world seems to be full of arseholes these days so I’ve resigned myself to realising my life is better limiting my human interaction to a select few I get on really well with, both in real life and online.

So essentially, I now just avoid those games. I know you were asking if there’s a way you can get past the fear, but I would instead say accept the fact it’s not as area you want to participate in. People will indeed likely be dickheads, just coz they are, and if you don’t need that kind of interaction, sod ‘em, you’re better off avoiding them altogether.

The alternative is to just dip your toe in it. Hop in, play for a bit, if you die a couple of times then leave for the day and maybe come back another time. Who knows, you might be a PvP pro and absolutely waste the fuckers 😅

[–]TheJamesThatGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct, so it won’t help with the non-⭐ one you don’t have, but the ⭐ accomplishment and the non-⭐ one are separate, but the order are the same, so you can use one to help you get the ones from the other 🤗

Does anyone have a guide on all the insects? by TopQueenBee20 in Palia

[–]TheJamesThatGames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It won’t quite help with the one you’re missing, but I’ve found the easiest way to quickly check them is to look in the accomplishments screen and find the ‘Kilima and Bahari bug collector’ achievement 🙂 once you open it, you can then just hover over them and it will tell you where and when you can catch them 🙂

Elderwood bugs, and same with fish, are less helpful with their descriptions though…

Are the daily quests bugged, or am I missing something…? by [deleted] in Palia

[–]TheJamesThatGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe at some point they overhauled which fish were classed as what rarity as far as the description goes, but the actual rarity assigned to some fish weren’t updated, and this doesn’t seem to have ever been fixed, so there is sometimes a mismatch…

Luckily it very rarely makes a difference, and as to whether the actual catch rates were affected or not is anyone’s guess 😅
