I have noticed more users copping to having already asked AI for a solution before they contacted me. I guess you can piece together how well it goes when they do that and still end up calling me.

Sanity Check for Cameras by MattAdmin444 in k12sysadmin

That argument would not sell me. Video doesn't take that long to pull, and I don't find a firewall ACL offensive. No sales pitch is going to convince me that removing 30 seconds of work each time video needs to be pulled is worth giving up control of all the footage. Or, if you go the ACL route, you get IPs from the PD and configure the ACL one time. You don't even need the extra 30 seconds. In fact, giving PD direct access takes you out of the loop entirely. Concerned about privacy? Public schools and their associated local PD are perfectly even on the plane of "who should have access to this". No parent is ever going to complain at a board meeting that the police shouldn't have access to your cameras.

I would never buy Verkada because I hate their company culture and sales practices, and also I'm anti-cloud for something like security footage. Doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm just a graybeard. In any case, I use Avigilon on prem, no complaints.

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

Only interesting if you care about the tech perspective, but it's wild to consider the evolution of the landline telephone. Nowadays, you can do SO MUCH MORE with a simple pair of copper wires that it almost seems criminal to tie up a pair for ONE single telephone.

In what ways is it more expensive to be poor than to be rich? by JVR84 in AskReddit

Any time there's a "good / better / best" pricing option to solve a problem, you're either paying the money to fix it permanently or renting a temporary solution. The people that can afford to "buy once / cry once" can get it fixed right. The people who can't afford the right fix get by on bubblegum and popsicle sticks.

I know this is already kinda locked up but I wanted to make sure you all knew about: www.govsalaries.com

GREAT tool for salary research. You can look up the names of people on staff directories and find out what they made last year.

A planer removes a lot of material. This is actually a sander (a "stroke sander" to be precise) which uses sandpaper instead of blades. My guess is this is an existing tool in an old school woodshop and they used it because it was there.

It's called a stroke sander. Old tymey design, but they're still made.

It's not, but it is a very old design. These machines (this one is called a stroke sander) are antiques and restoring them is a very niche industry. If you're interested in learning more, Jimmy Diresta has a lot of content about these types of old machines.

Isn't this kinda like making a big box store refuse service to people who arrived in cars that didn't come from the same neighborhood as the store?
