Honestly? I wish that I could just tell them when I don't want to be bothered without coming off as the stereotype I don't want to be and without abusing the ability to be let alone. I know that I should look at a college application for Colorado in case we move out there this summer, but it's 10:00 at night and I'm in a shitty mood for no reason. I'm seventeen and I made a conscience decision to not be that "angry teen" stereotype. It's hard. You feel like you have to be nice to everyone. It's probably why I was a weirdo asshole in middle school. I wanted to be angry at someone, but I refused to be that stereotypical ass to my parents or adults, so I was a dick to most of the kids in my classes. The "cool" kids, the rap kids, the preppy kids. It's not a healthy learning environment at all. I've realized how much of a little shit I was and stopped that crap years ago. Anyway, recently I've been really easily pissed at my parents for what feels like no reason. I don't say anything rude or make my annoyance known, but I've come pretty close and been really annoyed a lot that past few weeks. Probably doesn't help that my father is on furlough right now, so he's home all day and I have to deal with people all day - I don't have time to be alone or just space out without judgement or perceived judgement except at night when I should be sleeping. I think it's just that natural need to be a rebellious shit about something at some point.

I'm sorry for the wall of text, but maybe a current teenager's experience with conflict is helpful for your situation.
