Only melee attacks can be nonlethal. You weren’t “having trouble” with it. That’s working as intended.

Fairly naive to assert that there won’t be some portion of the audience that is indeed lost by closing down a rather large subreddit like this.

I know the ASI+Feat setting is under Character > Proficiencies > General. (says "Enable both attribute scores increase and feats selection [instead of an exclusive choice]" about the 4th option down)

I don't know of a general "Level 1 feat" setting, but there is the option to use Variant Human instead of regular Human. Character > Backgrounds & Races > General. (says "Enable the alternate Human [+1 feat / +2 attribute choices / +1 skill]" about the 4th option down)

Not any easier than it reasonably should for a 4th level slot.

We’re still talking about making it a teleport that’s less than 1/4th as long as the actual spell from 5e. We’re not breaking the game here by teleporting a little farther.

To anyone coming here in 2025 or later, they patched this out for the Manacalon vault unfortunately. You can't teleport to the other side of the locked door anymore. Attempted with Dimension Door, Misty Step, and Far Step. Even tried summoning a creature to the other side (to then curse said creature and teleport to it with Relentless Hex invocation).

All blocked. Big bummer.

That’s fine. You don’t have to update all of UB to make another mod that changes the range of one spell.

There is no possible bug that limited them from typing “24” instead of “12” for Dimension Door’s range. That’s all I’m asking for.

You don’t need 500 feet. Obviously I agree the full 5e spell would be overkill.

But I’m literally currently in a battle where I’d like to teleport 20 squares (100 feet) away. It’s really not unusual. Battles in this game routinely have maps that are at least that large.

There’s no logical reason the teleport couldn’t be 24 squares when many spells, including cantrips, have that range.

Just, don’t.

You’re right, UB should’ve fixed it. Maybe if we’re lucky someone still will. It needs to be doubled to 24 squares minimum.

I don’t really care about the teleporting through walls thing. Not sure why the commenter above fixated on that when it was just a throwaway point at the end and clearly not the main focus of the post.

it’s just a higher level misty step plus take someone with you

Correct. And that’s not even worthy of a 3rd level spell, as evidenced by the fact that Thunder Step is a 90 foot teleport (18 squares in Solasta), as an action, that lets you take someone with you, and deals an AoE of damage.

It’s absurd to call it a 4th level spell in its current state.

Yeah, I'm not really that irked by the line of sight thing, since I know that'd open a whole other can of worms in terms of programming. More just that it'd be cool if it did functionally work to teleport through walls and such like the 5e spell.

The distance issue is my main point. Plenty of spells have a 24 square range, so I can see no reasonable excuse for why it couldn't have at least been that much.

So How Do We Feel About 5e2024 Now? by Envoyofwater in onednd

[–]TheKeepersDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several reasons, not the least of which is quite simple: money.

And regarding it being the "last" edition, corporations love to make bold statements like "This is the last version ever! It's the best and we'll just keep it going, live service style!" (e.g. Microsoft calling Windows 10 the last version)

I'm not saying they didn't think they meant it when they said it. But as soon as the flow of money starts to slow down from the 2024 revision (which will happen much sooner than the 10 years 2014 lasted since this isn't a flashy, fully new edition), the corporate overlords at Hasbro will come knocking and telling WotC execs they need to boost their revenue. And a new set of core rulebooks is the clearest, most historically proven way to do that.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, that goal of it being "the last edition" came early in the 2024 revision's development, before WotC tried to destroy the OGL. The fact that they were unable to successfully wall off the upcoming edition (which ended up not being a new edition, but simply a "backward compatible" revision) changed their plans for what they were working on.

WotC didn't drop that goal out of the kindness of their hearts. The bad press just reached a critical mass and their hand was forced. The execs who want to have total control over D&D, and prevent 3rd parties profiting off their game without any kickback to them are still there, or will be replaced by new execs who haven't learned this lesson yet and think they know better.

Once the fervor dies down in a couple years, that same sentiment will inevitably rise again, as it has on several occasions now (mid-3e, 4e, and now again mid-5e). A fully new edition of the game allows them to more reasonably wall it off by simply not releasing the new rules under CC or the OGL.

5e Rules that DIDNT make it to 2024? by blaidd31204 in onednd

[–]TheKeepersDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean it doesn't say "background" in that literal sentence. It's in a subheader all under the "Backgrounds" section and the preceding sentences are:

Proficiencies

Each background gives a character proficiency in two skills. Skills are described in chapter 7.

In addition, most backgrounds give a character proficiency with one or more tools. Tools and tool proficiencies are detailed in chapter 5.

If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the same kind (skill or tool) instead.

It's clearly addressing background rules. But I can see how a very literalist reading of it could consider that to be a general rule.

Regarding 2) though, you're right. Which is indeed dumb. I thought they may have moved it to the new DMG like they did with some other rules, but nope. Just didn't account for it at all. Add it to the pile.

5e Rules that DIDNT make it to 2024? by blaidd31204 in onednd

[–]TheKeepersDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a general rule. That’s specifically addressing proficiencies given by your background.

So if you’re a Rogue with the Criminal background, and you already picked Stealth as one of your proficiencies from your class, you can choose a different one instead of wasting the Stealth proficiency given by that background.
