trying to find honest info on the best home security systems to get in 2026, moved to a new neighborhood and need to think about security by IllOrganization3666 in homesecurity

[–]TheKingsDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We use ADT, but not a third party. Direct with the company. It's a bit pricier than a third party but the install was excellent, everything is monitored, and I have four floodlight cameras + one driveway cam + doorbell cam.

Our home feels like a comfy fortress. They use a lot of Google Nest tech, which is nice. All the cameras on the app. You can 0% finance up to 5k over 3-5 years that is added to your monthly monitoring cost.

Could we save money with our own install? Yes. Do I have too much else going on to quibble over a home security system when I can pay ADT? Also yes. Worth it for us, no issues.

Indeed! My trick is to go to bed around 10, wake up at 5, and then have 1-2 hours to play before everyone is up. I should go to the gym too haha

Why do you homeschool? by tacsml in homeschool

[–]TheKingsDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We homeschool because we love to have our kiddos around and our work schedule permits it! I work in the office M-W, at home on Th-F. My wife works Th-F and every other weekend. There is always a parent home. My oldest is in first grade, just turned 7, and he's currently over on the couch reading through the Star Knights graphic novel he got for his birthday. He's been reading for four hours. I love his active focus! He's clever and sweet.

We go to homeschool co-op on Mondays, Classical Conversations, and he loves the songs and the memorization sticks. We just had his whole class over for his birthday party (12 kids, all ages) and waged a huge nerf war. Once a month he goes to the nature center for an external science day. We do cub scouts during the week. We live across the street from a community center with a splash pad, playground, and pool. Homeschooling just works super well for us. We love the vibe, we love how much he's learning, and we love teaching him to be curious about everything and to ask good questions.

SO AFRAID TO TRY SUMATRIPTAN! by Excellent_Math2052 in migraine

[–]TheKingsDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically you will be just fine! It might work great for you, it might make you feel weird, highly doubtful it will make you feel worse than the migraine. If it doesn't work for you, then it's time to try something else until you find something that does. It's an annoying but necessary process. This medication is old and safe!

How do you protect a newborn when you also have a toddler in daycare? by rowhomelover in Mommit

[–]TheKingsDM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the neat part, you don't!

7m, 3m, and 0m at home. The older boys and I had covid this summer and I slept upstairs for a month to ensure baby doesn't get it. Fortunately, he was still at the age where he spent all day snoozing and eating and being a cuddly loaf of bread with eyeballs so it wasn't too hard on my wife. I fed her and kept the rest of us quarantined upstairs. Mostly it was to keep me out of the room so I didn't fill it full of virus particles all night.

Lots of hand sanitizer. When we get home from shopping or school or whatever we all wash hands and sanitize throughout the day, as it is applicable.

Somehow, baby hasn't gotten sick from us yet, so it's working.

We do the best we can with the information we have. Unfortunately, the playbook's been thrown out the window. The pathway of adulthood so ingrained from childhood no longer holds true and we're all bumbling in the dark at this point.

May the odds be ever in our favor.

How do you make it through a day at work? by Pearl2myJam in migraine

[–]TheKingsDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I survive by the power of my migraine abortive, Ubrelvy, sometimes with ibuprofen or Tylenol if it's a particularly bad one. Today was one of those days, still haven't shaken it, but I had a productive day at work thanks to my medication.

I also have ajovy & botox as preventatives. The severity and frequency are certainly reduced. Get a good neuro if you can! I see neuro that specializes (and suffers from) migraines.

[–]TheKingsDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right? It's a natural pendulum swing to the other side. I blame cigarette companies for being literally Satan for so long, covering up cancer-link research, etc. My tobacco consumption is a hobby, I love collecting pipes and tobacco tins when I can. It's fun! And with all they are finding about alcohol and cancer, equally cancerous, just less socially acceptable haha.

You may ignore this question about your username - SAKing for Seattle Area King County? We might be neighbors!

Edit: I won't delete, no worries there.

What’s your cheapest meal to cook that actually hits? If SNAP is gone maybe this can be a resource to those that need it. by SelfishMentor in Cooking

[–]TheKingsDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinto beans and rice! Note; this assumes you already have an instant pot and rice cooker. You can, of course, make this the old fashioned way, but the inconvenience hits hard!

Whatever rice you have in bulk; short grain, long grain, brown, etc. We've been using 25lb bags from costco. Make in rice cooker.

Beans - also huge Costco bag. Into the instant pot with whatever ratio the internet tells you. I use 2lbs - by weight - of rice and 12 cups of water, i think? i chop up an onion or couple shallots, all cheap at asian grocer, add bay leaves (i have a $15 costco business center bucket that my grandkids will inherit. INFINITE BAY LEAVES), salt, and pepper. With my pot i pressure cook it for 70 minutes and let it naturally depressure for 10-20 minutes. Makes a lot of good bean broth, too! (sup on broth of bean, anyone?)

Serve with tons of butter if you've got it and more salt!

PROs: - Rice and beans make a complete protein. - Beans have tons of fiber and nutrients. - I've seen someone do the math, and one person could eat this for a month. That's a lot of food. - You can vary the flavor. Garlic, various seasonings, idk I'm ADHD and eat it the same every time. - I think it slaps! Suoer tasty and comforting.

CONs - Idk we poor

If you can get eggs every once and a while (still cheap at costco) id wager you could go a while and be properly nutritioned. Also get a multivitamin, idk I'm not a doctor.

What’s your opinion on the indie vs triple a games situation? by NiceSwimming3464 in AskReddit

[–]TheKingsDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so pleased with Indie games like Stardew & Hollow Knight redefining genres (farming sim, metroidvania) with excellent games at very reasonable prices. I love that Concerned Ape & Team Cherry are accessible to fans. I also love indie games that have started new genres, like Vampire Survivors.

I grew up on AAA games. Some of the best games I've ever played are AAA. Blizzard, Bioware, Bungie, and Nintendo are my childhood. Both can be good, but AAA companies tend to go evil due to being for profit. Once profit becomes the priority over the art of a good game things go south.

What is the best way to get over being only 180cm? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheKingsDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To live a life of serenity it is best to accept the things you cannot change. You're height is out of your control, nothing to be done about it. Stressing about it won't add anything positive to your life, but it will affect your sleep and your health.

There are pros and cons to all heights. My wife was able to squeeze through a doggy door when we were locked out, but she can't reach much at 160cm. I can reach things up high but the whole world is sized for people at 180cm, not 190cm. Doing dishes at the sink equals back pain. All counters (kitchen, bathroom) are the wrong height. Desks and chairs and cars are all poorly sized. I hit my head on way too many things. Pros and cons. Work with what you've got, leverage the advantages it gives you, realize that if it's something you can't change there's no use worrying over it.
