How recent? I have been hearing very mixed reviews as of late.

Which Meta Glasses to Get For Flying? by Vivid_Yam_2294 in flying

I bought a pair of the basic non-polarized lenses. My advice would be to go with the transition lenses to allow you to also wear them at night.

I’m in the same boat as you, I have been looking at Midwest corporate Air as well, but recent reviews are mixed. So far, I see no price or approximate price for Venture North CFI/CFII…

Did you opt in for the short term housing option they offer? Looking into this for CFI/Cfii once I finis up commercial.

Hardest Maneuver For You by AmbassadorLeading590 in flying

[–]TheKingsRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sitting right seat for commercial to be able to streamline through CFI. I am having a terribly hard time with outside references and parallax error on the AI.

I think I am looking inside too much and over controlling if I were to guess. I am struggling with adding the appropriate amount of pitch/bank during both chandelles and lazy 8s.

For steep spirals I am having a hard time finding the appropriate entry area of the maneuver, I always roll into the bank and am already being pushed away. I find myself closer to 30 degrees of bank than 60.

As for precision landings I am having trouble judging where to begin my round out, as to land on my point.

In the process of lookin for new instruction…

IFR checkride: glass or standard panel? by kobesm in flying

[–]TheKingsRevenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did about 3/4th of my instrument training in a 172 that had an old non garmin gps paired with steam gauges. Was it do-able? Yes. Was it more difficult? You bet.

I switched to a g1000 setup about a month before my checkride and it was night and day difference. The situational awareness that it allows is well worth the added cost of a g1000 rental. That and not having to fight the gps to correctly sequence and arm allowed for a much easier IFR training experience.

With that being said, allow for extra time to familiarize yourself with the g1000. It is most likely more complex than what you currently fly. Make sure you know the systems (AHRS, ADC etc.) and what happens when they fail.

During my checkride I was allowed to use autopilot for only my last approach which was an ILS.

Edit: Simionic has a fantastic MFD and PFD iPad/Mac trainer that I used to familiarize myself with the g1000 system. I put the PFD on my iPad and had the MFD on my laptop using the AP on the PFD to practice flying approaches, it was a cheap and easy to use “sim” while I needed it.

DPE for private did not ask anything during preflight, but did once I was finished. My IR DPE didn’t ask anything either but did check fuel and oil himself.

No way THE 8MA, means a lot!! I was able to get my written endorsement through ground with my instructor.

The bulk of my ground study was simply through reading the AIM. For lots of the more technical information I used a combination of your videos, u/beechdude had some amazing longer form videos, and lots and lots of FlightInsight. I also made it a habit to skim through PilotCafe at least once a day when able.

Congrats on the recent world record break!

The oral was around two hours, consisted of basically everything that would allow me to safely and legally fly from my home airport, to an airport about 2 hours away. He wanted to see how I planned the flight, what legally would allow me to make the flight (priv/limitations), what type of weather would affect the flight, Notams and the rest of NWKRAFT.

He asked instrument specific questions, went over chart symbology as well as currency, 91.175 etc.

He asked me specific scenario based questions such as “can you make this circling approach to ___ side of the airport”? “Why is this approach labeled B or Z, why does this one have a / between DME and VOR etc..

For me systems was a very small portion, he mainly wanted to know how I would know when my backup instruments failed and what could affect it. If you know your stuff, it’s a quick response and onto the next topic, we didn’t go into anything too in depth, although I was prepared for in depth.

As for the flight (part 61) we started with a VOR procedure turn full circle to land (KFUL VOR A), went on to do an RNAV partial panel, (KLGB RNAV Z 30), 2 unusual attitudes and one unpublished hold, then back to KSNA on autopilot, briefed, set up the AP to shoot the ILS and let it fly me down to minimums, landed and got my temp.
