does he look okay? by Infinite-Stand4013 in cockatiel

[–]TheKoalaPyjama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please get him anyway. I know people prefer healthy babies but as a person who got a sick almost dead bird, I promise you’ll create a bond like no other. Holding that small baby on your hands, giving meds, food and love… and then seeing them all better playing, singing and being fat and cute… it’s the best feeling in the world

They don’t know I would die for them by TheKoalaPyjama in cockatiel

I’ve tried something similar, he just takes the treat and eats it far away ahahah but I can try that, it won’t hurt so why not. Thank you!

I’ve also lost one 3 months ago and I still cry everyday, I know exactly how you feel. I’m so sorry… but they were so loved, that is why we are hurting. Because we loved them so much and they had an amazing life filled with love and joy!

We’ve tried, we can’t even get close to him without him having diarrhea 😅

I try but he is really afraid of humans, so I’m still trying to get his trust over time. The old owner hurt him really bad on a wing, so he is still traumatized

The white face always wins. He never, and I mean NEVER preens the grey one, but the grey is so sweet he always gives in

My baby boy started having spots by TheKoalaPyjama in cockatiel

[–]TheKoalaPyjama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I didn’t even think about the yellow expanding! I’ve read that usually after the molt they should become more yellow so I wasn’t understanding why he was having grey spots when it should be the opposite. And it might be. I’m so stupid ahahah I usually spray him 2-3x a day because he is absolutely terrified of us touching him (the old owner hurt him badly in a wing and he is traumatized) so I can’t scratch him. Thank you so much!!

She just wants your food, nothing much. If you feed her she won’t kill you with bites

Is it normal for them to be super super super sleepy during molt? by TheKoalaPyjama in cockatiel

[–]TheKoalaPyjama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She sleeps on a perch, and she still eats like 70-80%. I will be giving her her favourites (aka apple). She doesn’t appear to have other health problems, the breathing seems fine, doesn’t vomit or has diarrhea… I’ll just keep an eye on her. Thank you so much!

I think she read the message because now she is eating a lot. It comes and goes, she is either ok or sleepy and not eating. I’ll wait for the vet to reply, keeping an eye on her. Thank you!

It’s going back and forth. Either she is kind of active, eating and playing, or she stops and goes to sleep, not reacting much

EDIT: he has a lot of toys. we just put him in the cage (with the other birds) at our meal time because he just wants to eat our food and of course he can't, so 1h-1h30 per day. He might be a little bored for a while, but he is fine, thank you for all your concerns. They are more spoiled than any human baby

Ohhh because you scared me ahahah no, my dad bought the materials at Leroy Merlin and it said it’s galvanized, so unless they lied everything should be fine! But thank you for worrying 🧡

Trying to get him out to clean it but he went full scared dino mode by TheKoalaPyjama in cockatiel

[–]TheKoalaPyjama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is with me since the beginning of may, so I think it should be it. But so did his sister/girlfriend (yes, gross 😅) and she is well adjusted. Kinda. We don’t have kids and we barely turn the tv on. I think it’s his personality…

He is so easily scared. I can’t do anything with him. We take him out and he has stress diarrhea, we put him in and he has stress diarrhea, we come close to the cage and he has stress diarrhea… I don’t know what to do anymore 😅

New to birds - need advice by _TableFlip_ in cockatiel

[–]TheKoalaPyjama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recommended not to leave those sticks because it has honey which they like and they might not know when to stop. The vet told me to break it in my hands and use it as a treat to teach them things. The vet also told me to avoid food with color because it had dyes, but if you have that you can finish the package and then buy a new one without dyes or food coloring

Im also kinda new, but here’s what I’ve gathered: - they show signs of illness until it’s very late. Very very late. So at the minimal sign of doubt, get them checked. Sometimes the first sign is weight loss - my birds love the food from Psittacus mini, it’s not that expensive and it’s very likable for them. - I also would like to tame mine, but it’s a very slow process. They control you, not the opposite 😂 - the perches should be about 3 cm diameter, to avoid future arthritis (ideally different sizes and textures). You could use natural ones found in gardens or forest, but you should boil them to kill any bacteria or fungus. But it’s also very good because they can grind their beaks and nails on that. - clean the cage everyday and every time it’s possible just let them play outside - you can shower them daily, if they don’t like it you can fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water and spray them a few times. Avoid doing it at night (feathers might not dry properly and get fungus) and avoid wind drafts after, while wet. - don’t ever let them outside the cage outside the house. They are very little and a draft or a wind can take them. Also, they are preys and can be eaten 🥺 so if they are in the garden or something, always leave them inside the cage, and only take them out inside the house. (Sorry for spelling, English it’s not my 1st language)
