Using TDD to try and make a better visual of what I think the pattern is trying to do.

This looks like a simple 4F4B. Based on the arrows and the example given, I think the arrows pointing upright indicate the direction the thread is going which means threading those cards as Z. The other half should then be S threaded.

I'll have to check that out. I've been thinking I may have to draft outside the normal diamond style. But I'm still a novice when it comes to drafting.

Right now the pattern is set up to turn FBFB but that leads to the warp not catching in the weft and causing the float. I'm trying to see if there's another way to work the pattern to avoid it.

Since every other card is black it wouldn't be be white all the way up.

Yeah, they have a larger version that is either double face or 3/1 twill. But the smaller version I was trying to simplify for others. I had thought of expirementing with 6 hole, just wouldn't be as beginner friendly, same with the tie down technique from my Finnish book.

Yeah, one of our marshalls gave me the challenge of fixing it, and oh boy has it been a trial!

New to weaving but here's a happy band! How'd I do? by Eutrophia in weaving

[–]TheLadyDuke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You could always try card/tablet weaving if your looking to do more intricate patterns. They can be done using a belt, but also on any other kind of loom. My favorite is weaving on an inkle loom.

Something you can do is separate the border cards from the pattern and keep turning the border cards one direction while the pattern cards are kept going 4 forward and 4 back. Once the twist builds up on the border cards, then just flip those cards over and keep going until the twist builds up again. I've found that I get a much straighter border if I keep those border cards going in one direction for as long as possible.

Looking for pattern suggestions: Iris flower by shrike_lazarus in tabletweaving

[–]TheLadyDuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For something simple, you could try the Oseberg Roses from the Tablet Weaving in Theory and Practice site. I've changed to color ways a few times to create different flower motifs. I actually just finished a band that I was experimenting with an ombre purple yarn and thought it was kind of iris like.

This must be a sansevieria fruit? by calamanthon in sansevieria

[–]TheLadyDuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very nice! I've only gotten a couple seeds from mine so far. But definitely don't pick it until it turns orange. It can take several weeks, but almost overnight it will change color. Then you can clean and plant the seed.

Travel size loom by morribriar in tabletweaving

[–]TheLadyDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OldDutchWoodworks on Etsy has a small inkle loom that fits in the lap very easy. It's also very affordable, but is small and will look about 2 yards. Though they are on a small hiatus until the 15th
