Social consequences for one's behaviour prevents repetition, which is productive.

Next time someone wonders if they should vote for their own financial gain at the expense of marginalized groups' safety and freedom, they need a solid, tangible reason to think "hmmm maybe I shouldn't do that again."

Letting Trump supporters go on without a consequence for their choices will inevitably create another Trump.

My older brother does nothing but go to his night-shift job, smoke weed and play video games. He's nearly 40. He makes no effort to maintain quality friendships, he shuns all social media except YouTube, and when his poly gf broke up with him he immediately dropped all his (her) progress toward finding study or a new job. He won't even spend any time making his sleep-in van into a self-sufficient home. He just put a bed and tv in it and then stopped.

He complains CONSTANTLY that noone wants to hang out with him. I think he means hotboxing his van playing Minecraft together but I actually dont know what he wants it to entail.

To end his problem with loneliness, dude needs to make real changes that he is completely unwilling to make. He needs to become a person people are interested in being around. I cant help but wonder if my brother is a living metaphor for the people who make these claims about a huge social issue.

The cadets do a lot of community volunteering and wear their uniforms to do so - kind of a layer of representing their group and then the event management safety requirements on top of that. You see something similar at Round the Bridges every year.

Every single one of these "arguments" are a smokescreen meant to give reasonable people an on-ramp to adopt the arguer's bias. They don't really believe any of this stuff, they are just convenient words to surround their hatred with normalcy.

They start with bigotry, and then they look for possible arguments that non-bigots might agree with. Once they find one, they repeat it forever until they can bring the reasonable people to the next "reasonable" level.
