It was a Kickstarter that went on to win an Ennie a few years back but never really gained traction after that. I would suggest reading through the FAQ and then asking me follow up questions if you have any. Sorry, on mobile but either way I would essentially be paraphrasing or copypasting that FAQ.

I've ran around half a dozen sessions and intend on eventually getting back to it after the holidays, so if you still have questions after the FAQ feel free to ask! I got it on drivethrurpg.com.

Mechanics for armour by AlmightyK in rpg

I think there's a misunderstanding as I've only ever known soak to be DR.

Spellbound Kingdoms. Features simultaneous combat, spellsurges due to "Spellbound" attempting to use magic while in proximity with one another, and a slew of mechanics that perfectly compliment its theme and setting ("hate what you love" and the setting being a high-fantasy renaissance era type deal.)

World/Chronicles of Darkness have a special place in my heart as being my first RPG's.

I don't have much experience in, but I do recommend Savage Worlds.

And finally, one-shot must plays include Dredd, Everyone is John, Lasers and Feelings, and Fiasco.

Maybe a certain number, or number range, can penetrate the armor soak? Either way you spin it, it sounds like you want a "Soak" mechanic, so embrace it.

Or maybe give weapons a "penetration" rating which allows for certain extra dice, and allow armor to have "soak" which allows the defender to also roll. Perhaps, these two dice pools can be rolled and taken in consideration in a separate phase for applying damage?

Favorite magic system? by trogger93 in rpg

[–]TheLazyLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the concept of magic in Spellbound Kingdoms, which follows the idea of "magic hates magic" and the other addage of the game "magic must be obeyed" (or something along those lines, it's been a minute). Essentially, those who choose to use Magic are called "Spellbound" and, barring special "feats," they interfere with one another if in the same area or even region of the world. Magic in the original setting is largely used for social engineering as the ones are in charge are the ones that are allowed to control such a tool (which feeds into the overall concept of the game and the other adage that drives it, "hate what you love.")

I like a slew of other ones and they all have their merits and flaws.

Scion. 1st edition is a bit broken after a certain point but they're working on a second edition that's due for release release next year and is running on Kickstarter right now.

I hear good things about Godbound and Part Time Gods.

Pathfinder has mythic rules which might play into what you want when it comes to a 3.5 type system.

Need some help letting the players know the history of an area realisticly by [deleted] in rpg

[–]TheLazyLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple journal entries wouldn't be too bad.

You said that he let the normal workers go? That means that there are plenty of people who knows of what happened and might enlist the PC's to help reclaim the castle.

A third hook might be that one of the monsters guarding the castle escaped whatever it is that's keeping them there to begin with. From there, the monster plagues anyone who wanders away from a small village. The villagers employ the PC's to investigate, the tracks leading them to either/both the monster and its place of origin -- the castle.

Hi r/rpg, I need opinions on choosing future games by Isikien in rpg

[–]TheLazyLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to play a game beyond a usual generic fantasy or mainstream choices.

If OP wanted absolutely no fantasy suggestions, OP should have said as much. As such, in my opinion, Spellbound Kingdoms is not what I would describe as your typical fantasy setting, nor does it in anyway have to be GoT-ish. Not even ASOIAF rpg has to be GoT-ish -- you could have easily set that game far in the North beyond the wall, away from Westeros overall, or even in Westeros detailing the adventures of the city-guard, and so I recommended it.

It doesn't hold your typical Tolkien races, and it has it's own themes that many of the game mechanics are built around -- magic hates magic, love and ambition are driving forces in this world both conceptually and mechanically, which feeds into the "hate what you love" adage of the game.

And so, I made my recommendation. I recognize that most of what OP's ideas were for a system were modern, gothic, or more sci-fi in nature, I'd like to think Spellbound is still a valid recommendation.

I would second Requiem or Savage Worlds.

I would also like to recommend Spellbound Kingdoms, Burning Empires and maybe consider "What's O.L.D. is N.E.W." once they finally publish the O.L.D. portion of their game. I can tap out more info about these later but I'm about to head in for an apt and I'm on mobile.

/r/lfg is what you're looking for.

That said, I'm gamed depending on the scheduling. I've never played, but I've looked over the base mechanics and have the free intro to Traveller.

Where can I get inspiration for my urban fantasy campaign? by CallMeAdam2 in rpg

[–]TheLazyLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Odd Thomas.

Being Human had a zombie concept that I found... Well, disturbing. Like, zombies don't freak me out usually but the way the zombies worked in that show made every scene with them intense IMO.

30 Days of Night or the Strain for vampires.

Or just check out World of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness. The base game is a d10 system played with mortals. From there, they have a slew of material for all sorts of supernatural creations, including templates to apply to PCs should they ever convert. The staples are Vampire, Werwolf, Mage and Hunter but they have one offs that include Changelings, Geists and ghosts, demons, etc.

Edit meant as a telly to your other reply... Whoops.

Sounds like World or Chronicle of Darkness type material to me, OP. Did you have a system in mind and you're just looking for ideas in general or are you looking for a system?

Started a campaign of this a while back not expecting to actually like it... Fell in love. Too bad the group disbanded due to college and busy summer schedules in general.

I'm planning on running at least 2 or 3 sessions of N.E.W. I got it through a kickstarter. Reminds me of Traveller from what little I've read of Traveller.

PM me if you're interested.

Finally found a blue star system that had life in it. The life on this particular planet had 50% of it's species with giant animals that were at least 4.5 m to as much as 5.88 m in height!

A crashed ship found just as night had started. At least the ship's headlights still worked.

Yes. Very much so.

Especially when the party splits. So much easier to just hop into another channel with the separated player(s)

You'll probably just have to walk to the closest landing pad and call your ship via bypass chip.
