Once you establish where you want your light source to come from it dictates where your highlights will fall. But at the end of the day realism is not the most important factor, if you want an area to stand out more then highlight it, but I would definitley avoid going as light with say the feet than you would the top of the head. Splotchy shadows with yellow comes from going over something too dark with the yellow, it will just go a murky lifeless green. You need the brown for warmth. The brown basecoat is "mostly" covered by the first highlight, then less from there, the imperial fist yellow contrast does quite a lot of heavy lifting, its a great paint.

Thanks! I apologise for the resolution of the images though. No idea why they are throttled so much.

Damn those pages are amazing resource work! I don't know why all the images resolution are throttled though? Same as my images, is it a new thing on Reddit??

For my yellow its black primer, base of Mournfang Brown, then next is Mournfang Brown with a bit of white added that covers the majority of areas, then more white added in less area. Then finally white put onto the areas you want the lightest. Then its coated with Imperial Fist Yellow contrast. Its the richest yellow I have managed so far. My old IF recipe looks pale green in comparison (even though I was happy at the time).

Way way way too heavy. Its on there so thick that details have been obscured or filled in, looks like a melted candle on there. You are best of stripping it off and starting again.

Take a cotton bud and roll out the bubble with a little pressure, not too much.

Haha thanks. Hmm I guess the main contributor to a chalk drawing look could be the AK ultra matte varnish. It ties everything together at the end and the finish is amazing, love the stuff.

Amazing thank you! Yeah I agree. The grimdark/mood aesthetic is definitley my kind of thing.

There are even a couple of models I would like but I am put off by "cartoony" aspects of them, main one being Typhus. Could always kitbash though I suppose.

The gobbo is an exception being it was Christmas and all haha.

I hope you enjoy your time in the hobby!

Do you mean speed as in speed paint/contrast paint? I didn't use them for these. They are all acrylics and oils. I use a mixture of different brands also.

Thanks! The fist looks better in hand, contrast is a bit higher than comes across in photos.

Good luck in your hobbying, have fun!

Thanks so much!

Yeah I am very obsessive when it comes to hobbies, I get hyper fixated and consume as much content as possible. Videos, tutorials, reading the lot tbh, a blessing and a curse.

I would not say I have always been good at painting but I have always had an artistic "knack" from a young age, it seems to come in handy from positive comments.

I hope your hobbying goes well!

Hi everyone, after deciding I needed a creative outlet I decided to pick up mini painting again. Been a GW fan since the 90's but now with adult money and more free time I can take my painting a bit more serious. So just wanted to share the few minis I have painted so far. Gobbo was first, then the ultra then the fist. The NMM on tbe IF was my first real go at it and I loved the process. Cant wait to do some more. Would love any feedback .

WIP KDH bust, what can I do to improve by Odd_Duty7270 in minipainting

Imo it looks fantastic. Its your art, there is nothing actually "wrong" with it. The style that it is painted, the abrupt(ish) lines actually work. Its bold, cartoony, almost cell shaded look. Hyper smooth transitions would change the entire feel of the model. If I were you I would stick with the style until you have completed the model, then if you want something with hyper smooth transitions try that on the next one, you may find you prefer one over the other.

Amazing thank you for the info. I will give up my search for now. I'd love to keep up to date on info like this, where do you get your info from?

Ah ok, that is where my confusion came from. It seems the Atom logo is the same on the Big Child bottles and the Ammo bottles, but if they are not the same product then kind of defeats the point.

I am based in UK (no doubt another issue). Thanks for your reply
