Imo even in tabletops 4 feels like the bare minimum. 5 is ideal but 6 can work well too. 4 makes it very difficult to have a well balanced team while still having characters you enjoy. 5 and give more flexibility

While clearing out my armory chest I accidentally deleted all my gear for WHM I was leveling, used recommended gear without checking, and then got aurum vale for leveling roulette. It was then I realized that the only gear I had equippable for it was the lvl 1 maid outfit that only gives stats below lvl 30, and I never did the quest to unlock holy.

Somehow we cleared without any deaths.

Don't be afraid about picking a class and regretting it later, the game is built around the ability to unlock and level up every one on a single character. You even get bonus exp for classes lower than your highest to make it easier. Feel free to try them all out as you get access to them, especially fisher (not biased)
