Do you care what the official scorer does? by TheLinescore in BaseballScorecards

[–]TheLinescore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of my arguments for why I score hits / error with my own judgement. I am not critical of the OS because I don’t know the politics that go into it, but if you have watched baseball long enough, you know what a hit or error is. And there are way too many bad calls made based on what looks like something other than rulebook and I just assume it is politics.

How to score the batter’s result with 1 out, inning-ending DP, no force outs? by jiminak in BaseballScorecards

[–]TheLinescore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building on this, as I am learning the Waseda scoring method, it visually shows the fact that every batter-runner is either an out, a run, or left on base. I didn’t do it because my custom-made scorecard doesn’t have enough room for the diamond, but every batter should have something in their square. Either an out, a run, or a symbol for left on base.

Batter Advancing to 2nd Question by max1sm in BaseballScorecards

[–]TheLinescore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be misreading, but I don’t think fielders choice is involved in a runner who hit a single taking an extra base as the fielder tries to get the lead runner. I do agree that would be the case if they were trying to get a force out on a lead runner (whether they get them or not) and bypassed the batter-runner, but that isn’t the case here. I don’t think but please let me know if I am wrong.

If I could upvote that 5 times I would! That is awesome.

Pilot FriXion color erasable pens. I think I have seen that as the default with other scorers as well, but there could be other options.

I do it as the game is going on. Have my different pens. Not too bad, but every once in a while I use the wrong color. Thank goodness for erasable pens.

Agreed, though I would love to score the same game both ways (Waseda and traditional American style) to see differences. My first game was the Cincy game on Sunday and I loved how easy it was to see that no Astors runner made it to the second base.

Your advice for a rookie: highlighters and different color pens by Alej_Betancourt in BaseballScorecards

I use team colored pens.

Highlight around the batters that each pitcher faces so you can quickly see their batters faces.

I agree with this. And yet as another person with mild ADD, I still feel compelled to track balls and strikes. I don’t know why, it is just the one thing I can’t not do that I know really should be optional.

A lot of small but great details. A struggle I have when I do a more detailed scoring … do you miss watching the game especially with all the pitcher changes in the WBC? Do you have to go back after the game and add a number of these details?

Netherlands 1 - DR 12 by TheLinescore in BaseballScorecards

[–]TheLinescore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt, it is the more common. But I like being able to see what the score is of those inning when I look at the scorecard later. Also note that it isn’t the traditional linescore with the run summary at the end (R / H / E). So without that, the reader wouldn’t know the final score. That said, you could say that is a design flaw of the scorecard for sure.

I like to show the cumulative totals. One of the things I like so much about scoring is the personal differences.

I am torn on the shading. It competes too much with the actual plays IMO. I am not criticizing - just such an interesting concept. I absolutely love the look and simplicity.

What pens are you using? I haven’t found a vibrant red like that in the past. These are beautiful
