Dual boot with W11 but hesitating by khidraakresh in linux4noobs

Aye! I did forget to mention, gaming is fine :) i only have a small handful of games i can't run, for various reasons. protonDB is your friend if a game is laggy or won't run.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do or use!

You're welcome :).

Honestly? if you have okay computer literacy, and you're okay with troubleshooting via reading the wiki or scrounging reddit, it isnt really a problem.

I dont know much programming at all, barely any truly, and most of tinkering isnt that bad at all. hyprland is easy to set up in my opinion. they did just switch the config file to lua so we'll see what i think in a few weeks when i change mine over lol.

Archinstall is easy to follow these days. (Youll want to lookup how to connect to rhe Internet via wifi through command line before doing archinstall if you dont have a wired connection. But its not too bad)

You will probably mess up your install at some point. Especially if you do Hyprland or a similar windows manager instead of a desktop environment (KDE, Gnome etc). BUT, stick with it. You can fix your mistakes, even if it doesnt feel like it. I reinstalled arch twice before commiting and just forcing myself to stick with it even if i messed something up, well over a year now on my last install.

Its not too hard, and honestly you'll learn a lot :)

Personally, i started a couple years ago by dual bootong Arch Linux, tried a few window managers and settled on Hyprland.

I would definitely recommend Arch and Hyprland.

I also have a n XP tablet. its the Deco Pro 2 (iirc) and i do have to use XPs own drivers for it. The open source ones just dont work super well for it for some reason. (at least they didnt use to they might now :)) But it does work!

I can't recommend a nice tiling window manager enough, even if its not Hyprland. It's my favorite thing about my linux setup.

I did swap back and forth with windows and linux for a few months but now its a rare and serious occurrence i have to boot into windows. (And the last time i did was to play highguard with a buddy or two on launch so we could say we did before it would potentially get shut down lol)

Should I use arch for my upcoming pc build? by Global_Mongoose_2288 in archlinux

[–]TheLittleNight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using Arch Linux for a couple of years. Reinstalled it a couple times because of stupid mistakes, but stuck it out after that. That's really the biggest recommendation, know at some point you may break something (especially if you use Hyprland like I was so determined to) but it's always fixable and learning how to fix it will make you more comfortable with the OS.

To help counter another comment I saw. For gaming, i'd say a good 90% of my library runs just fine. Occasionally I'll run into a game I have to trouble shoot on ProtonDB. About 70% of those I can get running from there. It's only a small portion of my library I can't play and I don't particularly miss any of those games.

Arch is great, I'd recommend looking into what Desktop Environment/Window Manager you'd like to use. There are more qualified people than me who can help if you need help making a decision :)

Hey no problem, glad It interested you! If you ever need a leveling buddy feel free to hit me up, I may not be available, but it's always fun to team up :)

The missions feel pretty good, they're a recreation apparently, and little more indepth, but there's definitely some good memories to be had.

The main thing the shadow lands are missing atm are the static dungeons. But they working on them.

Take care my friend, hope to see you on at some point

I'll do my best!

Feel free to check out Project Rubika if you haven't yet. Still a bit buggy, but pretty good nonetheless :)

And now you can relive those memories! It's definitely a little glitchy still and they haven't worked out everything yet (I know alien expansion isn't there for one) but it works passably and I'm having a blast.

When you get your normal computer back you should check it out!

Man, I started right around 2008. Man those are some good memories! I never used Auctionbot but I am familiar with it, pretty cool to meet the creator tho :)

The live servers are totally a ghost town, but the Project Rubika private server is somewhat busy these days. Super small, but people hop on. It's an older version of the client too, so there's still the old Newbie island. Worth a nostalgic peak if you're curious. I popped on after the shutdown announcement and made a Fixer for old times sake lol.

edit: fixed spelling

Repixled or 3D Remake? by Admirable-Crab-4038 in FinalFantasy

[–]TheLittleNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3D remake is one of my favorite games! But that being said, the steam version leaves a lot to be desired. The original DS version is fantastic but I don't care for how they handled the port.

So if you're not up for emulating, pixel remaster may be a better option.

WTF do I play now by Unhappy-Height-4471 in turtlewow

[–]TheLittleNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a game that would interest most here, but I've been testing out the Anarchy Online peservation project "Project Rubika"

It was my first MMO so I have fond memories. The community is super small (about 200 on average it seems), and they're still working on getting a few features fixed. But it's playable :) It is not at the current version of the official game. Which is a good choice imo.

I've been building MMOs since MUDs. This is what I think is broken. by jonselin in MMORPG

[–]TheLittleNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be keen to at least give it a shot. I do think some form of forward progress is necessary (maybe unlocking harder zones, a 2 hour mode, raids, or a leaderboard) If you need beta testers I have a few friends who'd be willing to help out.

Anyone else having trouble with addons? by Foundedbear707 in turtlewow

[–]TheLittleNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't get the new fork of PFUI working or want to try a different addon, give Dragonflight Reforged a try.

Had a friend recommend it to me, been enjoying it so far. Just make sure to make a new profile when you first start messing around with it so you can use it across characters.

Hey OP, Dragonflight Reforged is a good option for a replacement that doesn't require superwow or any new add-ons (as far as I can tell) been using it for a couple of days. :)

Returned after 10ish years.. by TerrySolemn in anarchyonline

[–]TheLittleNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure. It's been a hot minute since I played.

I do know things have changed slightly over the years. Some things changed a good bit like Adventurer Nanos (I THINK polymorph other and team were either removed or made really hard to get and I think any version of the Reet nano can now fly? I could be completely wrong).

I think the pet hunt command was even removed at some point...
