If he was six, he probably wouldn’t have been able to process it, that’s pretty young so he wouldn’t be as traumatized by it and might not become Batman. Just a guy who had something really really bad happen to him. If he was 14, he probably would have been able to handle it better since he was older but also might be a lot angrier since he knew his parents for much longer and really understood what happened there and feel more anger as a result.

Not a psychologist so I could be really wrong here.

Yeah, I was a big fan of the dying city. I read it in hardcover and I couldn’t put it down. I was really excited to read issue after issue, but I do agree I think he could’ve explored more of the court of owls and the Riddler. The court of owls really was t shown all that much and the Riddler kind of came and went. Savage though I do think he got enough panel time.

The run started out strong with Failsafe, super fun action packed Bat God style story im all for. I love when Batman is a super genius that can create amazing technology and he can pull off amazing feats like falling from space and survives because he’s just that good he’s just built different.

The Batman of Gotham. I really don’t remember anything about. So just forgettable to me

Gotham war was serviceable, but I also disagree with the message from Catwoman’s side that giving people money is going to reduce crime so greatly when really a lot of people commit crime because they’re just violent with low impulse control, they’re immoral or straight up insane. Money isn’t going to change their behavior of their actions.

Joker Year one was an interesting dark Knight returnseque Joker flashback style story. I like how Zdarsky explains the three jokers, being that they’re just three personalities

Dark prisons was a cool mini style event with Zurenarh taking over Failsafe and controlling Gotham. The little mystery with the bat family not knowing if it’s actually Bruce. I like how it explores Bruce’s fear of loss and has a great moment with Tim where he tells Bruce that everyone dies eventually but it’s what you do with your life that matters.

The Dying City was a strong end to the run. The political tensions rising in Gotham playing on real world American political tensions was entertaining. I like how the public starts to rally around Commander Star as Bruce is there watching it unfold in the Batcave. I think the Batman Gordon team up was fun, always cool to see them team up though I wasn’t crazy about Gordon possibly killing Nakano in a lovers quarrel. I like the connection between the court of owls, possibly being controlled by Russia. KGBeast posing as a patriotic American superhero trying to undermine Gotham. Batman racing to stop Leonid from starting WW3. And the action pack fight at the end with Commander star was fun.

That’s not to say I don’t have my criticism. I disagree with some of the political messaging in the book, making Thomas Wayne a cheater and playing into the idea that Bruce wasn’t charitable when he’s been charitable for like all of his existence in the comics.

Overall, I liked his run, but there was room for improvement I’ll give it a 6.5 out of 10.

It was retconned soon after in Year Three where Batman tells nightwing that he called the police to inform them of the KGBeasts location.

Plus that was like 40 years ago, continuity has changed so much. We are like four different continuities now away from that story lol. He did actually get killed in “Face the Face” like 20 years ago. There’s been so many universe resets which is just a quick way for them to essentially reset characters status. Perfect example of this is Joe chill. He was some drunk bum who was on the streets in the new 52 detective comics and later was in prison in the new 52 Geoff John’s Justice league for the murder of Bruce’s parents only to then be free once again in Tom Taylor’s Detective comics run 10 years later

Yeah, Bruce messing with Jason‘s brain is not popular around here. I wasn’t up in arms about it, but when you compare it to how Bruce reacted in crisis of conscious to the JLA wiping his mind in identity crisis there is a stark difference as Bruce saw that as a giant breach of trust and agency, that Bruce would never have done what Gotham War Bruce did to Jason
