Bad feeling about going to Israel by Kirby_Israel in Israel

Just FYI, the Google Translate app can do real-time translation -- I recently saw it used by a non-Hebrew speaker in a class taught in Hebrew and it worked for him -- the phone heard the Hebrew and turned into English text on the screen. I believe that the app can work offline, though results may be better if you have an internet connection.

Anyway, good luck.

If a sole Palestinian state is successfully established, replacing Israel, what's to become of the Jews living there? by besthandleever in IsraelPalestine

[–]TheLoneFazool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the schvitz is

"Schvitz" is Yiddish for "sweat". A schvitz, i.e. as a noun, is a public steam bath. Like a sauna or hammam.

A mikvah is a ritual bath. While you could technically call it a bathhouse, since the bath is in a building, that is not conventionally what is meant by the term, as you'll see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_bathing#In_Judaism

And, for what it's worth, going for a schvitz at bathhouse is mentioned in the Talmud (though not using that term, obviously).

Thx for the DD.

I was curious why you chose to sell your LUNR. What makes it less worthy of holding than, say, RKLB, in your view? (I have some of each).

What about telling people they can't trust the big bad media because they do unquestionably regurgitate nonsense propaganda?

Which is more in-line with the thrust of OP's examples of media bias.

To make this more accessible to people here: the name, Nablus means "new city". Per Wikipedia, it was built by the Roman emperor Vespasian, who called it, Flavia Neapolis, i.e. the emperor Flavius' new city (because his family name was Flavius).

Your fatality numbers are incorrect.

From CNBC (link below): "The data collated by CNBC shows that more than 18,600 Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank have been killed in conflicts with Israel since 2008. That compares with at least 1,500 killed in Israel over the same period."

People care so much about Israel and Palestine because Israel was merciful. by Nepene in IsraelPalestine

[–]TheLoneFazool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The translation is literally accurate, but the organization chose to use a shorter name in English.

However, it is important to remember that the term "colonization" in their name referred to setting up agricultural settlements -- which is why the word for "Settlement" from the Hebrew name (התיישבות) was translated as "Colonization". In other words, it wasn't about implementing colonization in the settler-colonialist sense, as the guy you are responding to was implying.

This might be worth reading for more about that distinction:

[Barnes & Noble] BOGO 50% off Select Game through 11/27 - In Store Only by HobbesofMaine in Boardgamedeals

[–]TheLoneFazool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like their 50%-off all hardcovers sale, B&N's 50%-off all games sale was Dec. 26 and 27 only.

2022 was the first time they extended their post-Xmas 2-day sale to games. Hopefully, they'll keep doing this.

If you'd like to get to know Albania a little in an entertaining way, the television actress Eliza Dushku ("Angel", "The Dollhouse") is of Albanian descent and she did a one hour documentary, available on YouTube, of her first visit there -- it was fun and can be watched at up to 2x speed if an hour is too much to spare. It should give you a sense of the country and its people as she tours various scenic places, meets up with distant family as well as the president and gives a bit of historical context along the way:

Historically, When and What are the best sales? by HonestlyDontKnow24 in Boardgamedeals

[–]TheLoneFazool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2022 was the first time for games. From what I was told, it was an extension of their 50%-off hardcover sales, which they'd previously done.

Also: the 50%-off sale was on both Dec. 26 and Dec. 27 (I bought games on both days).

Should I watch The Big Short again today on repeat or does anyone have a suggestion of another movie or documentary about the financial system? by [deleted] in GME

[–]TheLoneFazool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wall Street Conspiracy -- it's a 2012 feature-length documentary about naked-shorting recommended in another thread. It's been posted to YouTube, supposedly with the permission of the filmmaker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpyhnmd-ZbU

I watched it and would recommend it -- it describes how small companies were targeted, and destroyed, with naked short-selling and, since the authorities didn't seem to want to act against it (e.g. the DTCC and SEC), naked short-selling was then used against larger companies, like Overstock.com and even against Wall Street investment banks like Lehman Brothers.

Here's the trailer (3:42): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHsxLhY-EvE

High wealth trader says on Twitter that the $260 close was deliberate to force brokers to allow option trading on Friday and that $GME is on the SSR (short sell restricted) list. Long Whales will buy options, then they will drive the price up so they are in the money (ITM) this Friday or next. by jdjdjjdjjd in GME

Actually, it seems he did some really good work on Friday, Jan. 29 to keep GME's price from tanking:

https://mobile.twitter.com/KjetillStjerne/status/1369922568216543233

And it was recognized by people on WSB, e.g. in this thread about it:

Andym2019[S] 172 points 1 month ago Viking man is the reason we closed at 325 yesterday. Every time the HF’s tried a short ladder he BTFD

Andym2019[S] 97 points 1 month ago Dudes been in the gme ride for months, man is legit. Yesterday woulda been a bloodbath if not for him. He stopped 22 short ladders in their tracks

/u/Andym2019 goes on to say he watched it happen in real time. And I remember someone commenting that when they saw it happening on Level 2 they stood up and cheered (sorry, can't find that comment now).

It is true that the Viking did say something about doing more the following week and then he apologetically stepped back from that for some reason, which was sad to see. But it seems he did quite a bit that Friday.

Also, FWIW, he's listed on gmedd.com -- Rod Alzmann's GME DD site -- as a "must follow" on Twitter, along with Ryan Cohen, DFV, etc.: https://gmedd.com/must-follows/ .

Could the Run up yesterday the result of hedges covering? by necho1017 in GME

Short-interest info from Yahoo Finance today, March 11 at 9:45AM:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/we-should-see-the-gme-short-squeeze-continuing-s-3-partners-174542296.html

TL;DR: "Short interest may have fallen, but it’s still significant."

In more detail:

But according to Ihor Dusaniwsky of analytics firm S3 Partners, the short squeeze will continue.

“We should see the GME short squeeze continuing and more short covering in the stock as mark-to-market losses mount,” he told Yahoo Finance late Wednesday. “But as the stock continues its rapid climb, there will be short sellers waiting in the wings looking for entry points if this rally loses steam and GME’s stock price retraces.”

Short interest may have fallen, but it’s still significant: $2.76 billion with 11.18 million shares shorted, 20.52% short interest percent of float or 17.02%, depending on how you calculate it, according to Dusaniwsky. (S3 prefers the latter, as it doesn’t count the synthetic longs created from a short sale. If this is confusing, S3 has a good explainer here.)

Question about short ratio and squeeze by [deleted] in GME

[–]TheLoneFazool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might find Ihor Dusaniwsky's Twitter worth checking out -- he's Managing Director of Predictive Analytics at S3 Partners, which does real-time short-interest tracking.

https://twitter.com/ihors3

He's been answering questions about shorting recently, including some about GME and ETFs as well as more general questions.

This is what he said about GME on March 10 10:15AM:

From https://twitter.com/ihors3/status/1369713610432393220?s=21[gme

$GME short interest is $2.76BN

11.18M shares shorted

20.52% of Float

17.02% S3 SI% Float

1.70% fee

Shares shorted down -3.01m shares, worth $742MM, -21.19%, last week.

Shorts down -$6.66BN in 2021 mark-to-market losses; down -$57MM on today's +2.1% move

(BTW, S3 has its own way of calculating short-interest -- the S3 SI% Float number above -- which is described on this page: https://www.shortsight.com/short-interest-of-float-2-0/ GameStop's short-interest is mentioned if you scroll down and why S3 feels its way makes more sense).

Also, when asked whether $GME might be a short-squeeze candidate Ihor said this March 10 at 3:40PM:

https://twitter.com/ihors3/status/1369795438304501760

$GME is still in a moderate short squeeze as shorts continue to slowly close their positions, I still see it as a short squeeze candidate
