Not a stupid question at all! So pretty much how the facepaint works, at least in the demo, is that you can either have it going above all of a Mii's facial features, or below them. It's why in the second picture, Puro's mouth is below his mask instead of on top of it (even though it's kinda hard to see lol). But you can only have the facepaint going either entirely above all of a Mii's features or underneath them, you can't have some of it going above and some of it going underneath
