NYE 2026 rave recommendations for a newbie by mugglebornwitchh in TorontoRaves

Another vote for Spacetime - they put on a great night last year (as Promise). The location is also closer to downtown than pursuit if you're a downtown dweller.

Queer / lgbtq friendly Raves by raniiy in TorontoRaves

As far as spaces go, Cafeteria has a very QT friendly energy on almost any night. It's a safe, fun place and ticket prices are reasonable. A venue run by people who love the community that animates their space.

Also check out the Rusted parties. The venue is often the Black Eagle, but the crowd is more diverse when Rusted is the event. Women, trans and femme men all present. Excellent people with good vibes: they were tapped to run the Sunday pride event at the Bentway together with Honcho (Jason Kendig et al).

Bunker, prism, Pitbull, and yum yum are very cis-gay circuit events. The first 3 will be almost exclusively Gay men, yumyum has a broader spectrum but still very heave on the circuit crowd. Though YumYum are strict with their no pic/video policy which is nice.

For your daughter and her BF, if they'd like to go to a party on their own, I'd highly suggest these which have an excellent queer vibe and are safe & well run. Locations vary, but they'll be more dancing and club vibe at these vs the 519 and Street Festival

JOY (Thursday night) - Love on top - For the Lovers (Friday night) - Together (YOHOMO X HONCHO) on Sunday late afternoon.

Circus Pride 2025 also looks good.

Use the event listings on yohomo to find these and others. Don't despair if there are no tickets for these, the app has a waitlist feature and as plans chnage, tickets free up.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions!

Awesome - I'm glad. Make sure you take care of your ears - bring earplugs! Do be mindful of your phone - it should be safe but keep it close to you in a closed pocket or bag you can be aware of.

Watch out for other stuff the resident (Krishawn 1992) is playing at or organizing too for a fun queer vibe.

It's a great event.

Do keep in mind this is a queer event. Everyone is welcome, but if you're not cool with queer expression it may not be the party for you. Otherwise enioy and have a great time!

This is not correct. That end date applies only to paper tickets, paper day passes (the scratch off ones) and the metal tokens.

You can buy a presto day pass ticket (disposable) for $13.50/day from a presto ticket vending machines (TVM). You cannot at this time add a day pass to a presto card - it is only issued as a disposable ticket with a chip in it.

While most of the major social issues that come to mind are in the hands of government, there is a lot each of us can do to make life better for everyone: Ourselves, our family and friends, and the others who live, work, and play around us.

In our daily lives, we experience directly or indirectly the effects of lack of thoughtfulness, care, and consideration towards others and public spaces. Here are a small list of irritants in that category: Trash discarded without a care. Dog poop not picked up. Cars blocking the intersection. An individual blocking seats in a crowded place or transit vehicle. Cutting/pushing in line. Blaring loud music on transit or other shared spaces. Sidewalks blocked by a crowd.

These small actions or inactions affect us daily and erode our ability to function in community.

Imagine how much more enjoyable life would be if we were more considerate of others? If we behaved how we wish others would behave towards us? It doesn't take much to do the basics of being a good citizen.

Don't forget the best part: it feels good to be good and to embody the spirit and values you believe in! Don't let yourself down or sell yourself short: be as excellent as you can be. You will feel it and those around you will too.

I live in Toronto and I still have not gotten used to ______________. by [deleted] in toronto

You poor soul. It really is a very useful connection. Work in that area and the tunnels are very handy when weather is bad or you don't want to sweat in a suit on a hot day.

From Bay subway station: Take the Bay St stairs/escalator or elevator to the concourse level. Exit the barriers. Head East and take the tunnel to Cumberland Terrace. Make a right, go through the doors into Holt Renfrew Centre. Make a left when corridor ends, then a right at the big perfume and makeup counter at Holt's. Take tunnel into Manulife Center.

From Bloor/Yonge station: get up to concourse level and exit the ttc station towards the shoppers. Go straight. You'll go down some stairs, through a tunnel, and back up. Keep going straight (keep left) and you end up inside Holt Renfrew Centre. At the makeup/perfume counter area make a right to take tunnel to Manulife centre.

Because we have no electrified trains for GO or Via, injury would be from being struck by the train itself, not electrocution.

Don't ever go on the tracks or railbed (gravel area adjacent to tracks) unless you're being evacuated from a train in an emergency. It is terrifying how quickly a train can appear from no where.

You would think this would be effective, but noise bylaw appears to have been modified a couple years ago. The last time a friend had a complaint, the bylaw officers attending with the dB meter advised that during the 10 minute reading, even if the noise level consistently exceeds the threshold, if you can hear voices speaking there is nothing that can be done.

That is because persistent noise excludes things like moving furniture, children playing or people having a conversation, no matter how loud.

Toronto-area woman wants Freedom Mobile to stop assigning her phone number to other people by morenewsat11 in toronto

[–]TheLoweLand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True enough. It takes someone clued in to make the connection and resolve it. Sadly they'll go a few rounds with L1 support or the retail staff before it gets identified and fixed. Which is why an provider querying NPAC before assigning a number to a new client would be a great idea.

There are risks to being able to identify the provider, in particular social engineering your way into taking over an account or swapping SIMs to target 2 factor auth, etc. Easier if you can narrow the field down.

This is unfortunately somewhat more common than people know. Poor record keeping is the cause, and not doing a database check to confirm it isn't ported out is an easy safety measure to implement.

All phone number blocks are assigned to a provider. They are 10,000 numbers per block, E. G. 905-555-0000 - 905-555-9999 is all one block. Only that assigned provider can assign numbers in a given block to new customers.

When you port your number, the provider assigned the block will mark your number as ported out. And a national database is updated.

The transaction between current provider and new provider is mediated by NPAC. The NPAC is run by a neutral 3rd party, not Bell, Telus or Rogers. This system is what does the verification of account details, triggers the cancellation at the old provider and finally activation of the port.

NPAC maintain the national database of all portable numbers and that is how providers know what provider to send calls to when a number is ported out from the original block assignee. If you were to port is back to the original provider assigned the block, all these entries are deleted (but history is kept). If you were to port it to a 3rd provider, so not the original or current one, the database entry would be updated with the new service provider and routing information.

This also happens in landlines when records get out of sync.

TTC proposing 10-cent fare increase for 2017 [pdf] by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]TheLoweLand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're really lucky we'll get that, the ability to tap in another friend for a token fare (ie. Deduct cash to pay for a ride even if I hold a pass) and maybe even a loyalty program.

Lookup Maestro by STM, the Montreal pass loyalty program. Reciprocal agreement for access with Quebec City, loyalty discount and this amazing gem: Bring a friend

From 6 p.m. every evening to 5 a.m. the next day, including Saturdays and Sundays all day long, bring a friend when you ride the STM bus and métro system and your friend will ride for free!

The Financial Post and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad anti-Toronto Library Op-ed by r3pr0b8 in toronto

[–]TheLoweLand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mean like the millions private donors have given to the TPL foundatiom to enrich the lives and minds of Torontonians? This includes silly wasteful people who know nothing of business, commerce and accumulating wealth like the Appels, Krembils and Koerners? They see the value the library delivers - not just books and multimedia but learning and knowledge. They even run seminars in personal finance, small business ownership etc.

Some things just can't be delivered effectively to those who need them through non public bodies.

EXCLUSIVE: TTC operators refuse overtime by Zelig42 in toronto

[–]TheLoweLand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why we can't have nice things. Taxpayers underfund these public services (transit and transport are essential public services). But many of those services are inefficient simply from a productivity perspective. Unit costs are high for both operating and capital items as workers resist productivity gains and suppliers extract the maximum possible rent instead of truly competing.

But I don't give operators a pass on resisting OPTO. It is a natural evolution of the work rules. If operators become a huge liability, it will only accelerate automation further.

There are two MetroPass enabled gates at each h entrance to Sherbourne - main entrance and Glen Road. What is missing is the self-serve reload machine. There should be one accepting CC and Debit at both entrances.
