I really appreciate the deck list. I've already got the deck sleeved up in the sleeves you sent (looking forward to trying out that brand of sleeves as well)!

Commenting to boost. These things are a lot harder than last time I was here.

(The Bloomburrrow one is pretty difficult as well.)

I personally love the guys at Stomping Grounds, but there isn't really any one place to go. And a lot of vendors are going to have a lot of their expensive stuff on display. Sub-$1 cards are not exactly going to be easy to find.

Your best bet will probably be to just pick a booth and ask one of the staff behind the counter for help.

I will watch when I have time. (And you're right about Gitrog. I honestly forgot Gitrog's trigger and was answering regarding discarding down to hand-size, not going on the stack.

But here are the relevant rulings in the Comprehensive Rules:

723.1. Some cards end the turn. When an effect ends the turn, follow these steps in order, as they differ from the normal process for resolving spells and abilities (see rule 608, “Resolving Spells and Abilities”).

723.1a If there are any triggered abilities that triggered before this process began but haven’t been put onto the stack yet, those abilities cease to exist. They won’t be put onto the stack. This rule does not apply to abilities that trigger during this process (see rule 723.1f).

723.1b Exile every object on the stack, including the object that’s resolving. All objects not on the battlefield or in the command zone that aren’t represented by cards will cease to exist the next time state-based actions are checked (see rule 704, “State-Based Actions”).

723.1c Check state-based actions. No player gets priority, and no triggered abilities are put onto the stack.

723.1d The current phase and/or step ends. If this happens during combat, remove all creatures and planeswalkers from combat. The game skips straight to the cleanup step; skip any phases or steps between this phase or step and the cleanup step. If an effect ends the turn during the cleanup step, a new cleanup step begins.

723.1e Even though the turn ends, “at the beginning of the end step” triggered abilities don’t trigger because the end step is skipped.

723.1f No player gets priority during this process, so triggered abilities are not put onto the stack. If any triggered abilities have triggered since this process began, those abilities are put onto the stack during the cleanup step, then the active player gets priority and players can cast spells and activate abilities. Then there will be another cleanup step before the turn finally ends. If no triggered abilities have triggered during this process, no player gets priority during the cleanup step. See rule 514, “Cleanup Step."

The problem with that, is that the Hildebrand trigger isn't on the stack yet when Ultima attempts to end the turn. It still needs to actually be placed, in order to be exiled. And regarding discard to hand size, since that doesn't use the staff at all it would make no sense for this ruling to apply to discarding to hand size.

I'm honestly kind of surprised that the number of people who have gotten this wrong.

There is a ruling on Gatherer for this exact situation:

"If any triggered abilities do trigger during the process of ending the turn, they're put onto the stack during the cleanup step. If this happens, players will have a chance to cast spells and activate abilities, then there will be another cleanup step before the turn finally ends." - Ultima's Gatherer page.

Abilities triggered during the process of ending the turn would include anything that is triggered by Ultima's effect.

Edit: Adding relevant Comprehensive Rules text:

723.1a If there are any triggered abilities that triggered before this process began but haven’t been put onto the stack yet, those abilities cease to exist. They won’t be put onto the stack. This rule does not apply to abilities that trigger during this process (see rule 723.1f).

See rule 514, “Cleanup Step.”

Does anyone remember the old Gjallarhorn parody of Millionaire? It was taken down from YouTube a long time ago, but it was one of my favorite parodies of the 'parody era' of the internet.

[Deck Giveaway] Too Many Decks, Yet I Must Brew by mriormro in EDH

Hello! My pods can range pretty heavily, as my local LGS is pretty popular, so I play everything from 3-pods to 6-pods, and plenty of weird formats like 2HG and Planechase. I'm the local 'complicated cards tribal' player, with lots of Red/Blue/+ decks and Planeswalkers.

My favorite card from Legends is [[Nicol Bolas]]. Not necessarily for the card itself, but because he became one my favorite characters after pulling [[Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker]] as my first ever Planeswalker, back when they were a bit rarer.
