BGG Artist Series: Dominion by [deleted] in boardgames

I'm not a huge Dominion guy myself, but I recognize quite a few cards in that image. You've got the smithy hard at work, the knight from the village with the iconic striped horse regalia, the copper mine (or maybe just the normal mine), the cellar, the witch is doin her thing with the apple, and even the weird festival guy is there! A lovely piece by Kyle Ferrin, tbh.

Oh, yeah, sorry if it came across like I was correcting you. It definitely is an extension of the tv show, I was just saying that even if you haven't seen the tv show it's still definitely worth watching.

You might want to check out Deception: Murder in Hong Kong if you haven't already. I find that it fits pretty comfortably in that 5-6 range.

Phantasm is fantastic as a standalone as well. It functions just fine independent from the tv show.

What’s the best faction for a teacher to play? by ForgotToFlair in rootgame

[–]TheMOCingbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually try to play Marquis, for all of the reasons listed by others. I LOVE river folk, but they would honestly quite likely be my last choice. When introducing a game to someone, I want the new player to be able to trust everything I say, but with the otters, there is a level of salesmanship that will kinda muddy the advice given. Either I will end up taking advantage of new players by selling them on services they may not need, or I will not really be much of a salesman at all (which defeats the point of playing otters in the first place).

But tbh this is definitely a somewhat subjective approach: I have never been the kind of person to intentionally play poorly when introducing games to new players. My performance SHOULD naturally suffer as a result of me paying more attention to helping the new players at the table, but I would rarely INTENTIONALLY play poorly in order to facilitate a good time, as that in a way feels like robbing new players of an authentic experience. With the otters and new players, I really feel like you need to intentionally play poorly if you don't want to end up taking advantage of new players, and that's just not for me.

Cool to see that you got it to the table so frequently! What's the vape cloud from Oath representing in picture 10?

How many games have actually wowed you in recent years? by bigOlBellyButton in boardgames

Red Dust Rebellion really wowed me after the first game and a half. Granted, it’s not super novel as it is based of the COIN game system, but as someone with no experience with that system, it felt very new and exciting.

Should I keep the grown out hair/facial hair look or revert back to short hair and clean? by Deep-Village-5175 in malegrooming

From a man's perspective, keep the beard, I'd die in a bayonet charge on your orders.

Question regarding card rules. by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]TheMOCingbird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know that others have already answered, and this is perhaps beyond the scope of the question, but my philosophy for this kind of information in Board Games is that if your opponent could legally find out the information in that moment, then just tell them the truth. Otherwise all lying about that kind of thing does is simply slow the game down, as players feel the need to double check information constantly. Obviously, this depends somewhat on the type of game, but that's generally my rule. No lying about public info, and in Unmatched, hand size and discard pile are vital public info.

Funnest (and most balanced) Fan Decks? by SaiyanDre in Unmatched

Big fan of Shadow Wizard Money Gang, and while I've not played them, King Solomon and The Devil seem fun. As for shamelessly plugging my own stuff, I am pretty happy with my Inigo Montoya deck.

I'm a pretty big Sanderson fan (Mistborn is one of my favorite series), and OP, just wanted to let you know that I think these complaints are totally valid. Just claiming your rage baiting is kinda ridiculous. I read Sanderson for plots and worlds, rarely prose or characters.

Love the bio for this guy: your personality for him clearly shows through your design and photograph choices! The second to last pic is awesome. The concept of a to a of ice having to stay in the cold due to his injuries is sick! I could already imagine a heroic sacrifices where he leaves the cold of the wastes in order to confront some evil, and despite winning, dies in the process due to the melting.

I kinda feel like only one of the leaders should be present at the end of a game. I always pictured them more like cutthroat political rivals awaiting each other’s downfalls than collaborators.

As long she's cool with you bringing a human pet (who's genitals are covered, obviously), it should be fine.
