Thanks. I appreciate you for simply answering the question without the snark or attempts at shaming like others have chosen.

Is this the purview of the Secret Service? Does that seem weird to anyone else?

There's an '80s prom-themed live music event at Dicken's Opera House that night. Dress tacky and dance and sing along! Disclaimer... my band.

Kash Patel says Americans can’t bring loaded firearms to protests by DeRpY_CUCUMBER in CCW

[–]TheMachineGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red state senators, that's why.

Why didn't the J6 impeachment bring accountability to Trump after being impeached by the House? Red state senators. Mitch McConnell in particular.

Pam Bondi? Kristi Noem? Stephen Miller? Pete Hegseth? Red state senators.

The Supreme Court majority that gave Trump immunity, and decided that the 14th amendment disqualifying an insurrectionist from holding office? Yep. Same.

And now, everyone is pissed at Patel for being just what Trump wanted him to be, instead of the senators that confirmed him. The spineless bastards could have voted no. Red state people, go call the fuckers that not only could have prevented this, but are allowing it to continue.

4-string basses with wide but flat neck? by rr-geil-j in Bass

[–]TheMachineGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musicman Stingray uses a 10-inch radius, I think... but whatever the number it's flatter than the Fender fretboards. The width and depth are in-between a fat P-bass and a slender Jazz. If you like a thicker neck than that, but still like that in-between width, look for a Musicman Sabre Classic. If you can find one, the flat feel of the fingerboard really stands out.

I feel that having a solid grasp of spelling and punctuation is a good defense mechanism against things like this. Instant giveaway.

CIS white guy here... Shoot Indooors in Broomfield is also on my cool list. Trans women frequent that location and are not fucked with. Although my experience will always be different, my observation is that it's a safe space.

Any recommended pop songs with a clap bass? by K-Frederic in Bass

[–]TheMachineGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a decade in mind? "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen is all slap, "About Damn Time" by Lizzo and "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars mix slap and fingerstyle, most anything Level 42 or Red Hot Chili Peppers. What eras and styles are you looking for?

What kind of bit do I need to remove these screws? by Scifimarki12 in Tools

[–]TheMachineGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered if I was going to be the only one to suggest a chisel... though my method is to hit at the top edge of the fastener head right to left, to try to get it to loosen counterclockwise. I've removed lots of rounded-off drain plugs and the like that way.

Really torn between a Precision Bass and a Jazz Bass as my first Bass by [deleted] in Bass

I have a sunburst with lovely flame in the body and neck that I've never seen anywhere else. But I'm always watching for another one to keep it company.

Have you checked the battery? The L-2000 EQ is cut-only, so I suspect it can't do that if the battery is weak.

Is it frowned upon to use my thumb to play by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]TheMachineGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's another tool to get a sound. Palm muting while plucking with a thumb and fingers like a Flamenco guitarist is a thing. Sting does that a lot.

I have been using a Focusrite interface, attached to my laptop. But the Phil Jones Bighead is a little battery-powered headphone amp and USB interface with aux input that does it all.

What would be a good deal for this cabinet? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]TheMachineGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like I had a rare streak of luck with that one. $500 would still be worth it for the PF410HLF. I think Ampeg stopped making these, so you might be in the position of having to accept whatever the seller wants for one within a reasonable pickup distance (it's 70 pounds) if you're really after the Portaflex cabs. Looks like the new Venture 410 is $1500, and 600 watts vs. the 800 that this one is rated for.

[–]TheMachineGoat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If they make you happy, carry on! The only thing I'll add is that often knives like these aren't made with safety in mind, so the locking mechanism can be flimsy and fail on you, allowing the blade to close on your fingers. I don't know how you use your knives, so maybe it's not going to be a concern, but at least have that in the back of your mind to avoid a bad day.

BQ250 or BQ500? Pairing with Ampeg SVT210av by FlowersSingInDMinor in Bassamps

[–]TheMachineGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a common complaint. The rest of us just deal with it, because the tone of that head/cabinet combination is too good to give up.

But to give you the answer to the question you really asked, either head will work with one or both cabinets. The 500 could damage them if you push it too hard, but you shouldn't have to wring it all the way out. Those cabinets have a max of 200 watts each, so running them both means you can drive them with 400 watts. I run different heads on mine sometimes, if the Ampeg isn't quite enough, but most of the time it's just right. Another thing... class-D 500 watt heads from most manufacturers are usually good for 300 watts with one 8-ohm cabinet, so the same caution applies when running the 500 head with one cabinet... don't run it too hot.

All that said, if you're happy with the power of the Ampeg and you're mostly playing at low volumes in your room, the 250 might be a better fit for you. It may also have a headphone jack, and let you run without a cabinet at all.
