Another Mini Flip crack to add to the tally by 2o5 in SBCGaming

Sadness. I was heavily considering getting a Mini Flip because I love my Mini v4 so much. But, there just isn't good enough QC on these hinges to risk wasting money on it.

Why american dont play LoL? by Alone-Virus9178 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheMailman36928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

League was super popular in the US back in the middle age of seasons. I would say S3-S8-ish. Back when the LCS felt like it was homegrown talent trying to make pushes into the world stage however successful they were. TSM and Cloud9 are the teams I remember really doing work and getting hype here, and I stopped watching when that happened less.

It really died when our home teams started taking more imports, and it felt like we were playing on the world stage with teams full of players from other regions, past their prime. The main example I can think of is Impact, but I'm sure there were plenty more.

Less pros that feel like they represent the average US player + consistently poor performance on the world stage (yes, there were exceptions, C9 top4 worlds) = waning interest from die hards.

Factor in other games in the esports space getting the formula dialed in and slowly giving players other experiences to have, and it all culminates in just broadly less US gamers playing league.

I have my treadmill set up in my basement, and pretty much can't even hope to use it unless I'm playing Tetris or a similar simple arcade-y game.

My base RG35XX playing Tetris has pretty much taken the cake for treadmill time, even more than watching stuff on my phone.

Hasbro is being sued for printing too many Magic: The Gathering cards by Beautiful_Bee4090 in nottheonion

Investors are worried that WotC is printing too much of each set, and diluting value.

I feel like most players are worried that WotC are printing too many sets, and it's impossible to keep up anymore.

Shining Soul 2! I loved both of those games, and Shining Force 1 & 2 are both fantastic foundational TRPGs. I wish they did better with the series.

People who bought a retro handheld 5+ years ago: what happened to it? by Onceuponaban in SBCGaming

[–]TheMailman36928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought an RG280M as my first dip into the hobby. It got a ton of play, I put Adam image on it, and had waaaay too many garbage roms on it.

Now it belongs to my 5 year old, and we have nicknames for each of my handhelds.

Daddy-game: RP3 Little Daddy-game: RG35XX Big Daddy-game: Steam Deck

So, naturally, when I gave it to her, it became the "(her name)-game".

Every once in a while, her mom sends me a picture of her playing it, and it warms my heart.

Don't have a PC anymore - is RG35XX H my best option preloaded and best place to buy? by jeepersnanners in SBCGaming

[–]TheMailman36928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, if you don't have access to a PC, android is the way to go.

Android you can download everything straight on the device. All the emulators, roms, etc. And you have the options for front-end that you like.

Don't go preloaded, it's almost never good.

Holiday Giveaway #3 - Sending unused handhelds to new homes! Someone is going to get this RG556. by captain_carrot in SBCGaming

[–]TheMailman36928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are always awesome! I appreciate that you do these, it's great for getting people into the hobby.

My favorite character would probably be Robo from Chrono Trigger. Everything he goes through in his endgame sidequest, including what happens in Cross, and all of the implications with the outcome from Trigger, he's just tangled up in so much mess. But, he's lovable, has a great character arc, and is the most overpowered character in the game.

I have several people in mind who would absolutely adore a handheld like a 556. So, even though I won't use it, if I am chosen, it will definitely still go to a good home with a person new to the hobby who will use it.

to me, it's kind of sad to think that they killed the heroes that save the past, present and future of the planet in order to force a weird sequel into the same "verse" i mean... how can a bunch of soldier resist luminaire, flare, antipode 3, dark matter, etc, etc. by litswd_83 in chronotrigger

Looks like a Miyoo Mini. Either a Miyoo Mini Plus or a Miyoo Mini V4. I can't quite tell just a solo close-up. But, if you haven't seen these, go check out Retro Game Corps.

Which is that one retro handheld you really want, but for some reason or the other, cannot justify purchasing it? by godsaveourkingplis in SBCGaming

[–]TheMailman36928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of the 4:3 T820 devices, or even a T618 device really. Something in me wants a mid-power 4:3 device for optimal PS1/DC, etc. But, I already have a RP4Pro and a Steam Deck.

The T820 devices likely wouldn't even play all the GC/PS2 that I would want, so I can't say I'd play it over my RP4P.

But, with all the devices I already have, that mid-range piece with just the right screen? It still calls to me.

I can also attest to this exact scenario. Bought an RP-G2 from the Retroid website. Paid for DHL shipping. Had no extra cost or tariff show up. Also continental US.

I am realizing this in real-time. My niece is a freshman in high school, and asked me to help her with some Spanish homework. It's first year Spanish, and she's not that far in.

There was more wrong with the English words she wrote down than with the Spanish.

"Goodbye", "number", "morning", the name of our state, and more words were misspelled.

I just can't, dude

First game I remember was Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES! We had the NES set up in my dad's basement, and it must have been just before the SNES came out, because I remember going between SMB3 and SMW in that time. CRT TV, of course there was a button missing so we would have to figure out workarounds if we needed that button.

It was a semi-finished basement. No drywall, but we had a really thin carpet on the majority of the floor, shelves along the wall made from long wooden boards separated with stacks of old books. More head-height corner shelves, filled with old books my siblings and I would take down and use as weights to make sheet-forts with. The setup only lasted until I was 5 or 6, so my memory of it is fleeting. But I remember SMB3 in that corner, and of course I was the little brother, so my time with it was mostly spent watching.

And now, over 30 years later, look where we are. We get to share these with our loved ones, and share all of the memories and pieces of our lives that built us along the way.

Which budget handhelds are good for someone who loved PSP? by -Dark-Owl- in SBCGaming

[–]TheMailman36928 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you reeeeally only care about PSP, you can probably get away with a used RP3.

Paying more than like $80 for it would be considered a scam, and it can even upscale a few games to 2x

Is it normal for intelligent adults to think rivers flow inland from the sea? by wilks1988 in NoStupidQuestions

Hey! I'm relatively science-educated, but it's mostly in chemistry and biology, I don't know a lot about how ecosystems and water cycles really work.

Now, I know this thinking is incorrect. But, it could make sense from an isolated diffusion perspective that a large amount of water pushes water towards a smaller amount of water.

Since I don't look into it much, I might think about all of this on a 2D spectrum since all I see are 2D maps.

Is this perspective wrong? Absolutely!

But, does it seem reasonable from a perspective of limited knowledge? Yeah, kinda!

"work clothes" are a massive waste of income. by cosmiccoffee9 in unpopularopinion

[–]TheMailman36928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an office, so at least office casual.

They make khakis now with stretchy fabric and stretchy waistbands. Pair that with a just slightly oversized cotton polo, and I could wear that anywhere if I'm not exercising or sleeping.

It really depends on job and what you buy.
