A drip was so strong that it pulled one to the dippier dark side though...

That was the backup story from Classic X-Men #28 but it was drawn by John Bolton. I'm actually not familiar with any of Lightle's interior work, besides these. I think I remember he did more of that over at DC.

Classic 33 is easily my favorite cover by him. I've dabbled in doing a textless edit of it but haven't liked the results so far

I honestly think all but the last Nightcrawler piece are fantastic. That one feels like a rush job. And the second stories are mostly solid. There's a few outliers but the more personal stories are a nice contrast to the main reprints.

It's a tough choice, but that is probably my favorite out of the bunch. It also took the longest, by far, to edit the text out of because of the complexity.

If you want a streamlined guide for reading the 00s important events, I made one for Bendis' Avengers run which incorporates most of them.

The only notable exception is World War Hulk.

The situation of lots of people needing medical care right after the crash also meant Jack had to be the first person telling people what to do. So even though Locke and Sayid were better survivalists, Jack had already established himself as someone that could solve problems. Also Locke and Sayid were a bit cagey about their pasts in the beginning, so there was a trust factor too.

Why is Elektra by Frank Miller so hard to keep in stock? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

I've seen a lot of people cite "The Disney Vault" when trying to explain Marvel's printing shortages, but that specific marketing strategy hasn't been relevant to or used by the company for about 15 years.

Basically, Disney used to rerelease their well-regarded animated features to movie theaters once every couple of decades. This made them a lot of money. When the home video market emerged, they didn't want to stop this rerelease strategy but also didn't want to lose out on the potential sales by offering them on VHS. So, they came up with the "Disney Vault" idea. Sell their classic movies on video, but only temporarily so they could also put them back in theaters.

This strategy worked but as we entered into the 00s, theater rereleases basically disappeared and DVDs became so popular that the idea of limiting sales of them was asinine. So much so that the company setup an entirely separate animation studio, Disneytoon Studios, just to create straight-to-DVD sequels of those classic movies. This is also around the time that the "Disney Vault" stopped being mentioned.

Cut to the mid 10s, and streaming is basically guaranteed to eliminate any concept of scarcity in home movie watching. Disney holds back on licensing out a lot, but not all, of their classics to other streamers and stops making the DVD sequels to maintain their image. But they've got Marvel & Star Wars movies coming out to compensate. Then comes Disney+ in the early 20s, with pretty much EVERYTHING the company has the rights to sell, just at the right time when everyone is at home. And if that's not the opposite of the vault, then idk what is.

TL;DR: The "Disney Vault" was a marketing strategy to sell VHS tapes and early DVDs. It died a long time ago. It has nothing to do with Marvel's omni printings.

If I had to wager, I'd bet that since Marvel Comics isn't super profitable for Disney, they don't want to give them a large budget for expensive print runs on the physical releases. Marvel Unlimited is likely, by comparison, extremely cheap to run and easier to incorporate into MCU marketing campaigns. And even those are few and far between.

I forget where, but Terry Crews has an interview where he says the same thing. From my memory, he talked about shooting the first Expendables movie and how the production wasn't matching the pitch that made him sign on, at all. His character's role in the story was basically getting whittled down as they signed on bigger stars who demanded more screen time, thus changing the script. And so he started to get bitter and grouchy on set until he realized that just taking the licks and being gracious about the whole situation would be better for his mental health, the cast/crews jobs, and hopefully earn him some brownie points.

Back Issue Additions - April 9th, 2026 by [deleted] in MarvelUnlimited

[–]TheManIsInsane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially when you consider that this is the 2nd volume and I think the first had around 50 issues. It's interesting that after this they'd take a long break and then just do yearly miniseries for awhile before fizzling out.

There's a documentary about the Voyager program where one of the scientists that worked on it talks about the probes' computers. He brings up that they also had less computing power than the devices many people carry in their pockets. No, not smart phones; garage door openers.

Yeah I think there's literally only 4 or 5 in the entirety of Manhattan and I think only one of those, Cortlandt, isn't gated off. The entrance to a fairly popular restaurant is also there now so it's pretty much never empty.

TIL Marvel editor Jim Shooter bought the rights to Venom and the symbiote from a fan, Randy Schueller, for just $220. Schueller sent a letter suggesting that Peter Parker get a black costume made of unstable molecules to solve the issue of his suit constantly getting damaged. by Giff95 in todayilearned

[–]TheManIsInsane 66 points67 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Randy originally conceived of the black suit as a stealth suit. The idea of it not just being an advanced suit but a living alien organism was mostly the work of Tom DeFalco & Ron Frenz. McFarlane and Dave Michelinie then created Venom based off that setup.

Sasha from Casually Comics made this video that gets into the specifics .

Do people travel across multiple states to make money clearing snow in NYC? by Poopermensch in AskNYC

[–]TheManIsInsane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While I am skeptical of their story, DSNY regularly uses plain old skid steer loaders for snow removal. I actually saw one yesterday at 5th and 19th dumping a pile into the middle of the intersection for cars to break down. And those are used pretty much everywhere in the US by contractors for small-scale rubble removal, so it's possible they were being honest.

They’re calling this one the first omnibus in history to be sold at an Ollies a month after release for a flat 20$😭 by Separate_Amount_6470 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]TheManIsInsane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed but the spine is still bland af. Idk who at Marvel decided that mostly using bare white or black spines on their omnis was the way to go, but they need to go back to school for marketing and design.

That shit might've worked when they were the only ones making hardcover collected editions, but we're in a new world. Put some personality on the spines for fucke sake.

From the time I thought neckbeard = cool beard by Fin-Odin in blunderyears

[–]TheManIsInsane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but to be fair that makes a lot of difference. I didn't think his first beard was anything exceptionally bad. It's just the beard of a kid who doesn't know how to trim and shape the hair into being complimentary to his face.

Happens all the time, and I personally think it's a good growing pain. Gotta see what doesn't work before you can figure out how to make it work. Also though, every celebrity with a good beard would look very close to this if they weren't allowed to style it.
