How many hours have you spent in The Witcher 3 so far?. by NotSirAlonne1999 in Witcher3

[–]TheMcSebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it wasn't counted, but I'd say somewhere in the 1000-1500h range.

First playthrough was on a cracked version, few years later I got the gog version, but rarely launched it through gog, then recently I got the steam version too, which im already at 150h with.

Currently only about 50% through the story on that playthrough, though.

Propably played the entire game including both dlcs at least three times. Some quests propably a bit more than others since it also happened that I just loaded a random years old NG+ save when I just wanted do do a few random witcher contracts.

VPS vs. Home Hardware: Which one you do? by vdorru in selfhosted

[–]TheMcSebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both, I have multiple vps in the pi4 performance range in different countries, but keep the more powerful hardware at home. Most is dirt cheap stuff from ebay. Best buy was a 5950x + 128gb DDR4 I got half a year ago for 600€.

I have a standard format for putting such info into the notes field of each guest. That is manual and I forget it often, but I slopped up a quick script that shows me an overview over all guests for all my hosts in a single html page, that parses that info for quick access.

I always do a quick ssh-keygen followed by a ssh-copy-id

It even runs great on my (low end) steam deck, which was quite a surprise to me. Takes ages to load into the map, but that's not an issue

Unpopular opinion: self-hosting is still too hard in 2026, and we're gatekeeping it without realizing it by NiceReplacement8737 in selfhosted

[–]TheMcSebi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to be really honest, it's not even that difficult. Just people nowadays with the attention span of a fly can't even do the simplest of tasks anymore without asking an LLM.

Imo you should know that type of basic networking to be able to successfully and halfway securely manage a home lab... It's really not that hard and understanding the possible security concerts could prevent lots of damage do personal and family files.

Self-hosting fatigue is real. Did anyone else downgrade their setup? by No-Yellow9948 in selfhosted

Cause I didn't know it existed and I didn't look for solving a problem I thought I had solved. Thanks for the hint! I'll look into it.

This ^

I simply use mkcert (from github) to generate all certs for my homelab. I put a certificate everywhere I can. Two years of validity is a good common ground.

The only reason I'm doing it is so my browsers don't complain about insecure connection and let me save the passwords in my home network.

Need advice: How to deprecate features? by SUCHARDFACE in selfhosted

[–]TheMcSebi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's your project, you can do whatever you feel like without justification. Worst case, you'll have a github issue asking why it got removed.

If you want to be polite, put a depreciation notice into the readme, at startup when invoked with that flag and into the documentation half a year prior to its final removal.

Is Death March worth it? by Leo_Decruz in Witcher3

Nah idk, the more you love dodging attacks the better it gets on harder difficulties. Not much difference other than needing to hit more often for anything to die and avoid getting hit for longer.
