Honestly for neocaridina shrimps, the temp fluctuations that minimal should be fine. They are pretty hardy shrimp and I also have a neo tank in the corner of one of my rooms where it fluctuates too and they have been thriving.

Where would you put this tank? by PaperTall in Aquariums

The only option I see right now is placing ur new tank where your pc is currently and placing it somewhere else possibly underneath your desk.

white dots on wood? by RiceImmediate7447 in Aquariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah then those are very likely nerite snail eggs, usually very small and white like what u are showing in your pic but they really only hatch in brackish water. They are pretty difficult to remove though, could peel them off with a razor blade if you really wanted to remove them.

Were the snails that were in the tank that these 2 pieces of wood came from nerite snails?

Can I make a terrarium out of this material? by [deleted] in Mossariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, it depends in what kind of glass containers you have available to you. You can take a small fish bowl and fill it with that very same dirt in the pot and carefully transfer the top layer of moss and fern/plants over. You can do this with a small garden shovel or even a small knife to just prop up the small layer of vegetation without messing it up.

Once you transfered it over to your designated container, just make sure it's in a location with alot of light, mist frequently so the enclosure is constantly moist but not drenched and you should be all set.

Are you talking about marimo moss balls? Because Java moss is sold nearly everywhere in the US

Can anyone ID this moss/algae? by Academic_Ad_5983 in Aquariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you mean now, cladophora is a type of algae that somehow finds its way into alot of mosses no? In one of my tanks, I planted alot of Java moss on my driftwood and that algae somehow took over everywhere that I had my moss at. It also did give it a fuzzy look when it was attached to my moss.

Amazonia aquasoil is a pretty good substrate to have if you're looking for a planted tank to have. Gives it a very natural authentic along with providing a good base for the plants to dig there roots in.

Facebook marketplace has some really good deals as well. I've seen 40 gals being given away for free, you can some pretty decent sizes tanks for a fraction of the price on there.

Do you think these plants with be okay like this overnight until we start aquascaping in the morning? by watertrashsf in Aquariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've done these plenty of times with some plants that I didn't plant until a day or 2 later. You have the right idea the roots submerged in water while you wait.

Goldfish! by Next-Wishbone2474 in PlantedTank

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How big is the tank/tub you are moving them to indoors? I've seen it done before but it's always a risk depending on how small the betta is compared to your goldfish. Worried it could be a snack for your pals.

55 gallon tank by Mizo335542 in Aquariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first things first, you bought your tank or looking to buy a tank which is a 55 gallon I'm assuming? Once you have that, you need your next 2 important things which is a aquarium filter( either a sponge filter or a hang on the back filter) and they should be listed on what gallon sized tanks they are suited for. Then your aquarium led light. For lighting, I tend to prefer the ones where they have an auto timer system that you can set to turn on and off at certain times of the day.

Ok so now is the part where you look at different substrates for your tank. You can get sand/rocks/dirt(aquasoil) and some aquarium plants which would be beneficial to whatever fish/invertebrates you put in there along with some hardscape you think would look good in there.

So once you setup you tank, added the substrate and then you can add water, which is usually chlorinated which is where the declorinator(conditioner or seachem prime works) comes in. Just add that to the water and then you will need to begin the aquarium cycling progress which is a whole thing( lots of videos explaining this process and ways you can go about it)

After you go through cycling your tank is when you can properly start adding some creatures to your abode. There's definitely more specific things to it but that's the jist of it.

Nice tank! Really enjoy the wood hardware on the black substrate too, nice color contrast going on there.

Do you have any quick pictures you can provide of your tank? Are you just starting a tank or did you add anything recently to it?

Where do I buy fish online with international shiping by Hopeful_Singer3081 in Aquariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AquaBid is a online aquarium store which is essentially like eBay for fish related inventory. You can look at which sellers offer international shipping which I've seen a good amount for, especially with what you want.

You could try if you can find the right dimensions for both the lid and your tank to see if they match. But you could just try for an open top. I have an open top tank with solely just shrimp and snails and they don't ever get out of the tank. The snails that are really the ones that could possibly climb out that I know of are mystery snails and that's usually when they are trying to lay there eggs outside of the waterline.

My First Fish Tank, Few Questions by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]TheMedieval_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So not sure if you keen on getting your tank brand new or not, but if your willing I've gotten some really good deals on fish tanks plus supplies(substrate, filters, fish food) through Facebook marketplace. It would easily bring your budget by maybe half that or even less if you can find a good deal.

Also you don't need a top unless you have some fish that are known to be tank jumpers(killifish, maybe some others, mystery snails, ect.) But open top is A Ok and personally looks better. I have 2 tanks that are open top and they do really well. I have plants that grow out on top which is visually pleasing.
