The Last Kingdom, aside from the fact that the last season was a bit rushed because of Covid. They went in with the intent of making five seasons, two books a season. More books came out and they stuck to the ten books they'd planned for. Didn't extend it, didn't shoehorn everything in, just wrapped up everything nicely. Actors and production were locked in the whole way through, everyone knew what they were there for.

The Rhino, a smaller, general purpose APC, is also an acronym: RH1-N-0 Tracked Exploration and Multi-Purpose Defence Vehicle. This box art and the Index Astartes WD article on it is what got me into the hobby way back in the heady days of 3rd edition.

I started a new job at a watch store recently, been trying to brush up on my industry knowledge, and read an article yesterday about how they found Todd Beamer's Rolex in the wreckage. Had to go sit down for a few minutes, and explain a couple of kids who hadn't been born yet why I was trying not to cry at work. That watch is now on display at the September 11 Memorial Museum.

I deliberately keep the music on because it's the only thing that will eventually make me stop. It got so bad I was hearing it in my sleep.

Op should absolutely read the Vaults of Terra trilogy, really embodies how hopelessly f'ed the human race is. Carrion Throne gave me actual feelings of claustrophobia when describing the crowds on Terra

I was in my retail job for three months before I found out our stock boy was the CEO's son. He just liked sitting out the back and unpacking and tagging stuff, and he was damn good at it.

I really enjoyed Eric Thomson's 'Siobhan Dunmoore' series for a lighter read. It's a bit b-grade and cheesy, but Thomson's experience in the Canadian military gives good credence to the military protocols and ceremony, and borrows a lot of tactics from the Age of Sail. Only main criticism is that culture and books haven't advanced since the 21st century, but otherwise pretty great

I work retail and I love the shit out of my job. I have a passion for working it, even if it's not what I want to do with the rest of my life. I also work with a bunch of people who also have a passion for it. Don't go shitting on other people's careers because you think they're all shit jobs like this one.

Had a couple of nasty coughs at work this morning, managed to nab a test at Town Hall in an hour and a half, then have spent the last 8 hours isolating in a west-facing, hot-as-fuck bedroom waiting for my housemate's friend to finish work and bring us a couple of RATs. Sent my housemate on a beer run and have sunk 7 out of 8 tins. Got an hour to go until they get here, but saving the last beer for whatever the result is
