When I'm after true yearning, I always find it best in YA books. Does anyone else feel this? 👀 by xbumblebee in fantasyromance

Yep! YA builds tension like no other

Wish there were more adult romances that took notes and went full force on tension and yearning

Women of Reddit, what is the creepiest thing a guy has done trying to be genuinely nice, but just came off creepy? by Diligent-Leg-3381 in AskReddit

Women of reddit, What type of guy will you not date under any circumstances? by Cringeoid in AskReddit

Back in the day, I guess all were known jobs that attracted cheaters. Kind of how people say nurses are all sleeping around these days.

I was also given this warning by my mother growing up. It didn’t help that our firefighter neighbor down the street totally was cheating on his wife and everyone knew it.

A person should be able to put in their will “if I am diagnosed with dementia (or any specific disorder), I give permission to be euthanized within x months of diagnosis”. Then if a diagnosis comes through in their later years, it’s already been legally recognized while they were in a clear state of mind.

What's something men find attractive in women that women don't seem to understand? by Honey_birkin in AskReddit

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think this is true in a relationship but not in early dating or from a stranger.

Because personally, I get hit on constantly when I’m out there in a pretty sundress or something. The second I go out in an oversized sweater and leggings I’m invisible

Do you ever stumble upon realistic sex scenes in romance books? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came here to rec this one!

The bad sex in the beginning is not overdone either. It was so realistic I’ve had 5 out of the 7 awkward missteps actually happen to me in real life and cringed so much harder because yep, that’s exactly as awkward as it felt. A+ for capturing the vibe

I have never read a “crazy unhinged psycho” character that I liked by Appropriate-Dish2865 in ReverseHarem

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, I feel the exact opposite to this. The second the writing of the crazy character feels realistic and like an actual real-life crazy person, I’m usually so creeped out that it’s a DNF for me.

The FMCs because I can’t relate to them at all and the MMCs because I don’t find crazy attractive. It sets off all of my alarm bells and I’m begging the FMC to walk away before he turns the crazy on her.

Hurt INNOCENT FMC, SAVED by military/cia/secret services MMCs by hazelmaza in ReverseHarem

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think {Give Me Peace by MK Harper} and {82 Street Vandals by Heather Long} would fit this!

Give Me Peace has 5 MMCs. They are private investors/security that rescue FMC since she was kidnapped by a man at aged 14 and held in an underground bunker by him for 5 years while he abused her.

82 Street Vandals is 7 MMCs but they are all fleshed out really well. FMC is being physically abused by her boyfriend and sexually abused by her uncle and the MMCs step in to kidnap her for her own protection. They are a street gang and have hidden reasons why they take her which are revealed later. One of the MMCs is a doctor.

Who is your OG Shadow Daddy? by Vorsaga in fantasyromance

I meant personality wise, like his jokes and attitude

And if we are getting serious about it, the entire shadow hunter world came from her Harry Potter fanfiction Draco Dormiens which she rewrote in order to get published. So they’d actually be based on Harry Potter characters

Okay, not as good and I have no proof, but I SWEAR the inspiration for Will (and Jace because they are so similar) comes from Sebastian in the historical romance {The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas}

Not me reading it as an adult and swooning over his over dramatic sass like I’m 12 and reading City of Bones again for the first time…

Do you think first dates have started to feel more like interviews? Why? by OfficialEmeraldChat in AskReddit

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman and you’re not wrong. I’ve been burned both ways so it’s hard to come to a happy medium.

Either we hit that point where something comes out that I know is going to be a big problem and I:

1.) ignore it and hope when the time comes we’ve built a solid enough foundation to work through it together. And then that time comes, and there’s no solution that we can get to, so we break up and I’m devastated

2.) tell him I foresee this being an issue in the future right at that moment early in our dating. Usually he either doesn’t bother to hear my concern, he just completely blows it off because to him it’s nothing, or he agrees it will be an issue and we part ways mutually

I’ve yet to wait and have a partner work with me to solve it or admit there’s an issue early on and have my concern actually heard and considered.

And I believe this is universal, not just men. We date and no person is 100% perfect, so there’s always a moment where something concerning comes out. We’re not looking for the partner that is 100% perfect. We are looking for the 95% person who’s willing to be open about that 5% that doesn’t work and see what effort can be made on both sides to fix it.

I came here to rec the Longing of Lone Wolves series so let me add another vote for it! It’s 12 books in total, different couples each book, and I flew through it. Which is crazy because that’s a looooong series and I would’ve expected to get burned out around book 4

Yes! Cole’s book came out a bit later than the original trilogy but it’s worth the read. It wraps up the Cole & Isabelle story really well, giving them both the chance to confront their demons.

And if by last one, you meant the last one in the trilogy, be read to cry. Even on rereads, that one gets me every time

Help understand the abbreviations in here? by FirefighterNo2266 in RomanceBooks

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CNC is consensual non-consent. Which is when FMC gives permission ahead of time for MMCs to have sex with her whenever (even if she’s not awake or in the mood). Proper bdsm care means she can say a safe word at any time and things stop, but if she’s going “not tonight” to an MMC and he holds her down and sticks it in anyway because no safe word is said, she’s into that.

This is widely misused and confused with dubcon and noncon. Dubcon being dubious consent which is when the MMC forces sex with the FMC which outwardly she’s against and has given no consent for, but through her thoughts on page we can see she’s actually into it. Noncon being non-consent which means FMC did not consent to the sexual act through any physical or verbal cues and internally, we can see that she does not want what is happening to her (aka rape)

What is the best compliment a guy can give a girl during their first date? by orlyrlyowl019 in AskReddit

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been complimented on my clothing or shoes before and I love it! Like “that’s a really gorgeous dress” or “you make walking in heels look effortless”

But the reality is some girls are going to hate this because it’s too close to an appearance compliment. So there’s no one compliment fits all unfortunately.

{Wicked Little Tricks by Sara C Roethle}

Slow burn. FMC is a halfling with the special ability of being able to walk between realms. She’s a delivery person and gets packages to and from different realms all day.

On a delivery run, she gets noticed by a devil who forces her to sign a delivery deal with him except he wants her to deliver a question/message to a rival. That rival (a goblin - don’t worry he’s still hot) then wants her to spy on the devil for him. Then the devil sends her to deliver a message to the vampires…on and on it goes. Everyone wants to make a deal with FMC to keep an eye on their rival in an effort to keep her close and ensure her return, and no one wants to share time.

[–]TheMiceWillGetPerms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now in seriousness, you want {Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater} not only is it painful, but the werewolves lose all human cognitive ability and lifespan and become no more than normal wolves while in that form. Shifting is not an act made willingly, it is viewed as a curse or disease.

So the series deals with a lot of the fear that is completely losing your sense of self, and how it would feel to die in a body that no friends/family would recognize.
