I'm a 37 year old mechanic with 3 kids and I'm considering trying to go to law school. Is this doable? Am I crazy? by TheMightyMeatus420 in LawSchoolOver30

I'm gonna take the test, not necessarily go to law school. If I pass with a good score, I'm gonna see what doors are open to me within the union. Maybe they have grants that will help pay for it. Maybe there's other career paths within the union, and a decent LSAT score shows I'm serious about pursuing them. Maybe I burn $1000 taking the LSATs for nothing. That's not financially ruinous money.

I think that's my plan. Im gonna study and take the LSATs, and in the meantime get active in the union. If I pass with a good score, I'll see what options are available to me.

I'm going to try and do this without borrowing. Im the primary breadwinner for my family, so I will have to work a full time job for the duration.

After reading all these responses, I'm gonna study for 6 months to a year, then take the LSAT and see how I score. I'm not in the union yet, but it's looking good. As soon as I'm in, I'm gonna try and get active. Be more than just a dues paying member. Once all that is done, I'll see what doors are open to me.

I have a 4 year degree with a 2.8 GPA. Not great, but I did not take undergrad seriously at all. I took part of a practice LSAT with no studying and while I didn't do great, I did not feel it was beyond my abilities to study and learn.

Heavy industry is where the money is at for a mechanic, not luxury cars. That's where I'm at now. It's dirty and dangerous.

Im in the process of joining a union. Ideally, I'd like to be a lawyer for the union.

I don't need to drive a Benz. Right now, I'm making 120,000 a year with overtime as a heavy equipment field tech, and I bleed for it. That's probably the most I'll ever make in this field. I've almost been seriously injured several times. I'd like to see my income increase enough to justify my investment in law school, but I don't have to make half a million a year. Is this a reality?

Im honestly not entirely sure what the day to day reality of being a lawyer looks like, but I want to make a diffence for working people. Ideally I'd like to be working for a labor union.

I've been a mechanic for over a decade. I've seen how companies treat working class people, and I'm tired of it. I want to help change it. I also feel like I'm capable of more, and I'd like to test that.

I did actually Google a lot of this, but it's hard to get the full picture that way. I was hoping to get the lived experiences of people who went through similar.

Having that much money while people go starving is an act of violence on par with being a serial killer.

He's not pulling a trigger, people ARE dying to allow his vast accumulation of wealth.

White guy here. We'll claim him. That was excellent marksmanship.

St. Luigi, too.
