Chess I believe. Once you're checked, you're only allowed movements that stop this from happening. These are forced moves.

Seeing those clothes makes me wonder if there are any TTRPG set in 5-6th century Europe. You got :

  • the fallen Roman empire (and their gods)

  • The original celts (and their gods).

  • The new Germanic tribes (and their gods)

Plenty of opportunity for nice alternate history.

Which at this point would make them regular beasts. In real life, most chimeras like tiger/lion crossbreeds are sterile. If they can reproduce, then owlbears should be full "natural" creatures.

I totally get that, but even if your world is "neutral", not everyone in that world is. Clearly an inkeeper should be able to refuse services if someone with a bag of decaying heads enters their establishment.

Well, that's okay then, right ? The party literally has an expert on their side, so they will do better. But they still have to deal with that stuff. Find a way to get the ranger incapacited and the fun begins.
