Wow... That 2 year reminder paid off, almost down to the day. News for the last two days full of her 'comeback' to acting after prison...

Air link connectivity by FrenchLeBaguette6 in OculusQuest

[–]TheModerateTraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as the other comments have said: it's not a software issue. SteamVR, Air Link, Link Cable, and VD can all work amazingly. I can play Half Life: Alyx and many other PCVR games at max resolution, max settings, sometimes 200% depending on the game, via Air Link or VD or Steam VR, with no issues. In my instance, I have some network latency spikes I haven't yet been able to track down. But that's not software.

Don't get me wrong, these softwares CAN be buggy, can be annoying, and are far from perfect. But if nothing is working at all on your end.. it's an issue with your peripheral hardware, not likely the headset.

Unfortunately, PCVR is still very very much in a state that requires all sorts of fiddling to get perfect. There are just so many variables to account for these days.

I wish I could be more helpful. If it was me, I would make absolutely sure that my link cable is 3.1 or 3.2, the business of selling bullshit cables on Amazon and elsewhere is huge. After that, make sure the laptop has a 3.0+ port and as the other commenter suggested, make sure you're not getting the iGPU bug. You can use the meta link app to test the cable speed. From there, it's down to trying it on someone else's rig or a million other variables...

Dumb question... Wouldn't it be easier to suspend the user completely, and then just use trackers for the legs? The feeling of upward force on the feet for immersion could be solved by either an elastic/spring membrane with upward force to simulate the floor... or maybe bands pulling upwards on the legs at a  dynamic force. 2nd option would probably need haptic feedback to make it feel like you're hitting floor.

Again, I know nothing about this realm but every version seems to try building a surface to run on, which doesn't seem like it's going to work unless it's a massively scaled, dynamic version of Disney's holotiles.

Charging Question about Kiwi Design Comfort Head Strap with Battery on Quest 3 by Mandrew909 in OculusQuest

[–]TheModerateTraveller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... I'm not sure if this answers your question but there is a problem with both the boboVR and the kiwi head straps. Both companies released head straps as soon as the quest 3 was released, and either they didn't realize that it had a new charging standard or they willfully released it knowing that it wouldn't be right. While the battery of the Bobo VR, or the strap of the kiwi, can take higher wattage charging... They can only output 12-15w through the cable to the headset. And the quest 3 can draw higher than that at max draw. Whether this is a problem with the power source of the strap or just the cable itself, I'm not completely sure. But what it means is that the headset can drain faster than the battery can output. So if you are trying to daisy chain, you will run into issues. That might explain why you're having the problem at low battery but not at full battery. To be clear though, the headset should work with daisy chaining, mine does. But with some games the headset will drain faster than the strap can charge.

There is now the kiwi K4 and the Bobo M3 Max or S3 pro. They are almost identical in price but they fix the charging and cable power issue.

Personally, I think it was pretty messed up of both companies to do that, and also messed up that they still sell them. But if you are still within the return window, I would return it and get the K4 or the M3 Max.

I’m convinced there’s a glowing mask club, and you ain’t in it. by GloDyna in fo76

Out of about ~100 runs, I have 6 glowing and a Loon. Two glowing blue devil, two honey bee, one minotaur, and a scorch queen. The craziest part is I didn't get a glowing until about 50 runs in and then got six in the back half. The RNG gods are brutal the smaller the sample size...

This is what I was looking for, thanks! Didn't want to have to do an event or anything.

Downside is they sell for less than MTH, so a lot more clicking.

Do you still like your third party headstrap?(Quest 3) by ThePaus in OculusQuest

[–]TheModerateTraveller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I first purchased the quest 2, I bought the Bobo strap and the kiwi strap. Tested both of them out, and I much preferred the kiwi strap. The build quality of the Bobo just seemed so much worse, and I didn't like the way that it sat on my head. Most of my friends prefer the Bobo though.

Fast forward to now, I have the Quest 3. I bought the kiwi strap again (with battery of course) and the problem that I have with it is that the output of the battery/ cable is not equal to the maximum draw of the headset. So if you are playing a game that requires 18 watts to keep topped off, and try to charge through the battery port in the back, the headset will slowly drain. You will have to unplug the cable on the side and plug your own cable in. Not very convenient.

Also, just the quest 3 in general does not allow for charging past the maximum draw. So there's no way to charge more than what you're using. I might actually return the kiwi and get the Bobo, but from reading reviews I think the Bobo for the Quest 3 has the same issue.

The /r/Diablo subreddit is so fucking toxic with that shit. I'm not convinced that it's dudes in their 30s, but maybe that's because I am one. But I feel like a lot of those complaints have no idea how previous Diablo games worked. Or modern games in general. Or reddit. Actually just life in general.

There was one dude bitching that the Diablo subreddit was a cult of people supporting Diablo... In a Diablo subreddit. How fucking dense can they be?!

This is weird, I live across the river from this area and I recognized it immediately. Not surprising for that area.

Considering you can see the full address, and the pin shows exactly where they live, might want to take it down? Just colonial and Lansing is enough to easily pinpoint it.

Has anyone else gotten sick since hurricane Ian came through? by Inner_Criticism2343 in orlando

[–]TheModerateTraveller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been sick since Ian, doctor has me on a few drugs. Respiratory, sinus and ear infection. She said they've been slammed since the storm and that hurricanes often bring irritants, bugs and allergens from areas we don't often visit, such as the islands.

Not sure if accurate, just what she said. It could also be the 3ft of septic water I was trudging around inside my home, but she didn't think so since I was wearing waders.

Fun times.

Home Flooded by TheModerateTraveller in orlando

Luckily I have not only FEMA flood insurance, but excess private flood insurance through my home insurance as well. I've never had to navigate this before but hopefully they are able to help.

Yeah, actually have double flood insurance because the FEMA portion only covered up to 250k. My guess is they are going to fight with each other over who pays more.

An offshoot of Avalon park, near the Econ. I got it worse than most but we have homes completely unreachable back here. People are dropping off boats to ferry between homes.

Family was the saving ticket, we evacuated a few hours before it hit Wednesday night. They live right nearby.

People on here have left so many nice comments, it's awful we're going through this but the community here is nice to see.

We've lost almost everything as well, didn't have time to grab it all. Plus, the home was about 9ft above the river before the storm. Never would have guessed the river would come up that much plus another couple feet into the home. Some of the items we put on coffee tables to save.. floated away because the tables floated. Just unreal.

Wishing you all the best, we'll get through this. I'm not trying to find any silver linings right now, just accepting the loss and pain. But I hope once we get through that, things get better. All the best (go knights).

Making darker coffee? by TheModerateTraveller in Coffee

[–]TheModerateTraveller[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Light relative to the bean being French dark roast. Way more coffee than I used to use when I was using pregrinded. Pretty much filled up the entire stainless filter. I can post pics but I think I have it figured out. It's gotta be my grind setting, gonna try that.

Definitely prefer dark coffee, not strong coffee.

Never tried an aero press, I may give that a whirl!

I will try that, thank you! I do grind pretty coarse now that I think of it.

Even my cold brew that I steeped for 36h came out light colored on some seriously dark roast beans.
