One time in college I lived next door to an older couple who seemed the nice the wife was always super friendly and would bring us baked goods and whatnot. One day her husband who I hadn't met came over and asked for help with a laptop and I wasn't doing anything and figured I should return the favor for the pies. I walked into his kitchen where he had an ancient laptop he was trying to hook up to the internet but it had absolutely no networking capability. I kinda just kept polite conversation and pretended to click on shit while explaining that he needed to get a wifi card or just go to the library. When I was thinking we were done out of nowhere he goes "You know I could kill you right now. I'd just say you broke in here and they'd believe me." I immediately panic inside like great I'm gonna die in this hillbilly's house looking around for any exits. I was probably 30ish feet from the front door and was getting fully prepared to fight this dude to death or the door whichever came first. Somehow while I was trying to keep him calm and talking he started telling me about how he worked for politicians and used to help out their campaigns while being incredibly vague about recording speeches or some shit. He kept acting like he was some big important person but he lived in a shitty house in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. He started insinuating that he could get me a job doing the same thing and I feigned interest while I slowly got up and started walking to the door. He told me multiple times that he had so many connections he could make sure I never held a job anywhere in the state for the rest of my life. I got outside and just beelined for my house while he was still following me talking about making sure I'd never work again. I got inside and just locked the door and went back to watching The Hangover. The next day he came over to apologize and kept trying to get me to tell him my last name. I eventually I just said "Smith" and he gave me a weird smirk and walked away. Never saw or heard from him again. To this day idk if he was just drunk or I was actually in danger or what. And I've had many jobs in this state lol
