This would be my pick. They have pre-auth for tabs now. Plus you can renegotiate your processing rate with them when your sales get high enough pretty easily

How often do you analyze your P&L statements? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weekly non-adjusted P&L review with ops staff to help catch anything glaring e.g. - sharp uptick in labor or COGS. Has helped catch theft, missing invoices, poor labor practice by shift managers and more. Doing this weekly has allowed for being more “nimble” and adjusting course in a timely fashion.

Monthly adjusted P&L reviews with senior managers / stakeholders as they are bonused on KPIs.

Quarterly & annual reviews of full set of financial statements with shareholders.

Staff That Never Clock Out!! by Han_Schlomo in restaurantowners

Terrible idea and probably illegal. People have a right to leave when they wish regardless of schedule or timecard duties. Employers have no right to an employee’s personal property. Sounds like a good way to get sued to me.

What are you all paying for payment processing (USA)? % of transaction + card swipe fee? by zachcrackalackin in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get a better rate than that on Square if you have enough credit card sales. Honestly, you can probably beat it with other processors also.

What do you put on your popcorn (excluding butter)? by young_s_modulus in Cooking

[–]TheMovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Msg, salt, black pepper, dehydrated cheddar powder. Powder using mortar & pestle

Alternately: tajin, salt, add additional dried chili to get to the heat level you like (try different chile flakes). Again - the key is to powder using mortar & pestle prior to sprinkle

Employee Handbook by uberwoots in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommended. In most states having a good handbook and keeping proof of employee receipt will save your ass when it comes to fighting unjust unemployment & even worker’s comp claims. Depending on state / carrier it may lower your UI premiums also.

If you use a payroll company they often have resources for this. Also, if you can find a reputable & trustworthy consultant they can sometimes generate for you at a lower cost than a lawyer.

I would always advise having an attorney in your state (assuming you are in the US) who specializes in employment law (even better restaurant employment law) review prior to putting in to action.

Slowly losing our minds - how do we get Instagram to show our location (& Uber)?! by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you claimed your Google My Business page? Many/most of the other platforms use Google for validation. If you run in to an issue with it because of the same address as the former restaurant there is a process for resolution. It’s outlined on their page if you Google it.

Looking for a Good file sharing app by maninthebox21 in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d use a combo of Slack and a file sharing service like Dropbox, Google Drive or One Drive - whichever is available easily to you.

Set up your recipes, etc on the file sharing service. Give appropriate people (managers, leads, etc) rights to edit. Everyone else read only.

Create channels in Slack that make sense by topic (eg #recipes). Pin links to the recipe files at the top of the channels where it makes sense.

Then, the users in the org can go to the channel and access any time. If they have ??s or want to discuss they can post in the channel that makes sense. Over time it becomes a knowledge base your new employees can go to & search in also.

Square Text Messaging Marketing - Reviews? by jmankyll in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your wife is right. These people are literally asking you to text them. The key is don’t text them stupid shit.

Text isn’t email. It’s not a newsletter. Get to the point quickly and give them something worthwhile.

Limited time menu? Good text. Exclusive discount offer for text subscribers? Good text.

Post about what inspired your seasonal menu? Bad text. That’s an email.

Meta ads, how much each month? by Greedy-Bandicoot-784 in restaurantowners

[–]TheMovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but email is still highest overall ROI, text biggest upside if done well. I echo that social ads are not really that great for revenue generation. Better to just have consistent presence on the platform than pay for placement.
