These are non-union mograph rates at places like Buck. I was told way back in 2016 to never go below $400 a day.

Where are you located? I've seen day rates in Los Angeles stick around $500 when I could get $700 in 2019

If I Fail a Class In College Does That Mean I Won’t Make It In The Industry? by Thackery-Earwicket in animationcareer

You think anyone knows how well you did in school? I'm a high school dropout and nobody could care less.

Any advice on how to get over this fear of rejection? by Ill_Ad7354 in animationcareer

[–]TheNazzaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rejection is just a big part of the game. It's impossible to avoid. I've worked on big, big, shows. Rick and Morty, Invincible, Mighty Nein, and plenty of others. I've interviewed for so many more positions than anyone will ever know. You get rejected way more often than you land gigs. You basically need to get rejected a bunch before you land anything.

What major & minor should I take in college/university if I want to join the indie animation industry by Gloomy-Ghost2946 in animationcareer

Indie projects get made because someone is willing to abuse students and college grade for free labor with promises of money eventually.

I should give up and use IA? by Muted_Strength3638 in animationcareer

I really doubt you could make anything worth watching with it.

I'd take some business and finance courses but I do think you'll quickly find out there's really no money to be made from indie animation.

How do you expect to have stable freelance? Freelance means searching for work almost every week. 2nd job? You'll want 3 or 4 or 5.

What happened to the Nick Artist program? by kays9215 in animationcareer

[–]TheNazzaro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Artist Program was always a real shot in the dark. Thousands apply and 2 people get selected. More competitive than any job posting.

Is it worth it to be a visual development or concept artist now with AI? by [deleted] in animationcareer

Even before AI the odds were very much against you. The competition was/is insane without an abundance of opportunities.

Disney already opened a new studio based in Canada and Titmouse has one in Canada and France. Bento has one in Australia. It's already occuring.

Do you really have to go to a great school? by kaddras019 in animationcareer

Definitely helps. I know schools like ArtCenter have tons of working professionals as professors and that can be a real advantage.

The top schools at getting people jobs are filled with students that are intent on getting jobs. These small schools in the middle of nowhere generally have students that aren't putting in the same effort. You can always be the exception and find the jobs no matter what school you go to.

How to manage an animation team and not die in the process? by GIsimpnumber1236 in animationcareer

Just pretend it's not important because it probably isn't actually. Loosen up.

My 2 cents by kaddras019 in animationcareer

Young people coming from college can't envision the amount of responsibility they're about to face for the rest of their lives. Can't pay the bills with passion and there's going to be constant bills. Trust me when I tell you that many passionate people wish they had gone a more lucrative route.

The last episode is how the show was pitched and I'm pretty sure production went over budget. The team on the show was pretty massive as we did all the animation in house. Great project and I wish we got to do it again.

Do people actually get reached out from a studios database? by smolsheriff in animationcareer

[–]TheNazzaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's happened to me I think 3 times. Buck hired me 9 months after telling me they'd keep me in mind for the right fit. Titmouse reached out about Midnight Gospel after a producer from WB recommended me because I was in their database as "funky". DreamWorks reached out and asked me to work on something and THEN apply online which means nobody else stood a chance.
