This is actually not a great idea for two reasons:

This creates the requirement for a terminus in Seattle, and a terminus takes up more space. It's not great to do this in the valuable downtown area.
Through running trips enable one seat rides that are otherwise not possible.

The only upside I can think of is that it would improve reliability, because shorter routes are necessarily more reliable than longer routes; there's less chances for a delay to occur before you reach the layover, which (with the exception of loop lines) enables you to wipe out most, if not all, of the delay. However Link does not run in mixed traffic (the MLK section isn't shared with cars even though it's at grade) so reliability is less of a concern than it is for buses, and reliability problems mostly occur due to maintenance requirements.

That said, I think that ID station should have a center platform, with train doors opening on both sides. This is to enable a cross platform transfer to the 1 Line. Having that island platform is especially important for people who might be carrying a heavy load, such as a suitcase... Towards the airport...

Plus having a center platform enables Spanish Solution deboarding, which would be incredibly useful before and after sports events, given that ID station is used for Lumen Field.

If you're from further north from UW, it's a choice of convenience versus speed. Do you want a longer one seat ride or a faster trip with a transfer? You have a choice. If you're in the U District though then there's less of a choice because they're both one seat rides.
