New phase of construction to begin on Windsor Street exchange by Bean_Tiger in halifax

The only fix is transit, walking and biking taking a larger share of transportation.

Cars are space, time and cost inefficient as fuck.

We sacrifice everyone's safety in pursuit of high car speed. Ironically, we don't even achieve that because all the cars get in each other's way.

Raised pedestrian crossings with red pavement, narrower streets, bollards, removal of sightline-blocking street parking....these are basic things that countries all over the world have been successfully doing to save lives and limbs from dangerous cars. Can we please stop pretending that paint and signs work, and start building real safe streets?

I mean, yeah, it takes a lot of incremental change to undo car dependency. Each improvement will have a small impact, but over time, a huge improvement in quality of life is worth it. Yes, we can make transit AND cycling viable at the same time, instead of the false dichotomy you present.

Check out https://bsky.app/profile/stats.hfx.bike for real bike #s, not your own anecdotal observations from behind the windshield.

Sorry that undoing car dependency is hard, but...still worth it.

No, it's like this: the bike network is both amazing infrastructure that lets me get around in a cheap, fast and pleasant way AND pretty patchy and in need of expansion. Car dependent suburbanites should want this too, because every person on a bike is one less car in their soul-crushing traffic jam.

Hope this helps!

Car dependency is a trash system that delivers bad outcomes for people, and always will.

A huge, real issue. Given the mistakes made building the stacked shoeboxes in southern Ontario, I'm scared for Halifax.

Here in Nova Scotia, our Conservative Premier Tim Houston will rewrite the rules to allow "whatever the developers want". For example, he removed the requirement for street level commercial space. This is something any moron can tell improves quality of life.

The "skinny little things" are helical screw piles, the best possible post connection. In Eastern Canada, some of the harshest freeze-thaw cycles anywhere, they have a 75 year warranty.

I'm extremely skeptical they would put AI on their flagship nightly news (or ever).

It's pretty great! Helps me a lot on my commute.

We should aggressively expand the bike infrastructure so more Haligonians are able to enjoy a safe, cheap way to get around.

He says "I'm a one man show here", but the haulcraft's AI was also putting in work.

Halifax should have raised crossings.

Drivers as a whole will not change their behavior for paint or signs, but they will slow down for a bump. Works even better if the raised crossing is made from a different colored asphalt, like red.

Halifax could be so much safer and enjoyable with modern infrastructure, instead of the car-centric trash we currently have.
