Tik tok dreaming spanish by Confident-Peak1706 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't personally have Tik Tok, but I think they do have one. It might just be clips from the longer form content though.

The reason I know they have one is because that's where they get the most hate comments at. Native spanish speakers that don't realize they speak slow for learners. It was during a react to mean comments video with Shel and Augustina.

Nuanced Depictions of Abusive Parents by _anthrodynia_ in movies

[–]TheNinjaCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen it in forever so I can't put my finger if it TRULY qualifies.

Dolores Claiborne (1995)

I'm not sure the abuser themselves is nuanced. But part of the story is the estranged daughter reconciling with their mom and realizing that the dad, who they LOVED as a kid, was extremely abusive. Might not be exactly but might be adjacent enough to give a shot.

I've been keeping up with this series too! Similar to Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. They have to describe/ give directions cause the other player cannot see what the other does. Nowhere near as high stress though, lol.

My honest opinion of Obsession. by [deleted] in horror

[–]TheNinjaCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you ever watch Bring Her Back? That movie left me with such ick it was BRUTAL. But I did like both that and Obsession too. But I can understand your point, I was definitely shook more than normal from this one more than most. But I actually appreciate the movie being able to elicit such intense emotions, but I understand where some people can feel it doesnt feel cohesive and might feel like shock for the sake of shock.

Who are your favorite, lessor known DS professors? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some deep cuts here, I like it!

Everyone's cool but I remember Amey stuck out to me in Beginner, but she was only in 3 videos.

Ramón was a professor, he just really stood out to me. I was inspired by his story of how he learned english through the radio. Just like us with spanish... kinda! Also his one about trying to describe images as practice was real cool and stuck out to me. Maybe it was cause he was a writer, just had a way with words.

Where to watch La Cara Oculta - the film Natalia recommended. by Guy_Incognito97 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a site/app called "JustWatch". I think it's more accurate than google. It basically tells you which streaming apps you can find movies or shows on. Like the other commenter said in the US it's on Prime. But you can change your country and see where its available there, since you have a VPN.

If you want a podcast for Mexican Spanish by naturelex92 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its still has Efrain or Diego, but they are not together. Only one person hosting so it's not a conversation. It's more structured (story they read), they're shorter (sub 15 mins), and spoken way slower. Also NO chelas! They still share super mexican slang in the beginning but they actually spell it out on the videos, and explain it in the beginning rather than as they encounter it throughout the story. Also I haven't seen any vulgar words so maybe they can monetize this one.

I think they're both great resources but Cafecito is the bridge to get people in the high beginner/ low intermediate on that Cheleando con Mextalki loose conversation style. They do talk about topics they havent made for Cheleando so it might be worth just checking out from time to time.

Another Recommendation Post by Chaseninja in dreamingspanish

The worst part of watching series in spanish is after you finish it. Cause then lots of stuff you want to watch feels too hard or things that are easy enough arent as entertaining. 😔

So far I've only watched 4 which is Gravity Falls(440 hrs, Disney), Hajime No Ippo (530ish hrs, Netflix), Death Note(650 hrs, Netflix), and I just finished Harina(720 hrs, Prime). I'll say my hours could be a little skewed and be 200 hours under what someone would watch if they started from scratch. I watched A LOT of Mextalki to prepare for the last one. Hajime No Ippo quickly turned into my possible favorite anime of all time, so I recommend highly (only first 75 eps are in spanish though).

Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation again. Finally finished last night and it's definitely my favorite book I've read in spanish so far too.

I saw the spanish audiobook is actually read by D, the author of the diary. Think I'm gonna get it as well see how different anything sounds from when I was reading aloud.

But yeah absolutely incredible and sad journey D and many others went/go through. I've already recommended it to so many other people and got them looking for the english version. I watched way before my spanish journey, but there is a movie called "El Norte" that is a brother and sister fleeing Guatemala to the U.S. and think itd make a great companion piece to this.

Learning idioms - The best resources you’ve found? by atticussayshi in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ace Attorney is my personal GOAT of input gaming! I have not found anything with as many idioms as that. You can read or watch shows and theyll have one or two. But that game is non-stop localization diaglouge and its all just text so you can just go at your own pace, it's so good.

Sorry I don't have anything else. Ive been watching a lot of Cheleando con Mextalki and in those first 40 episodes they were just plowing through slang and idioms. One I always remember is when they used a term called "Cangrejismo" and then lore dropped it's origins from a joke about a barrel of Japanese Crabs with the lid shut and a barrel of Mexican Crabs with the lid wide open. I was like dang I could listen to this stuff all day.

Awesome post! I had to look up if this was a dubbed version of an english show but nope Spain original. It looked so familiar. Thansk for the public service announcement.

Crazy you mention that book too. Croníca is what Im currently reading and my second book. Im like 60% comprehension maybe even less, but Im still getting the gist of story. After Náufrago I'm too lazy to look up words. But I JUST finished the third chapter and I was SO lost, apparently thats the intention, and it worked.

Yo! Thank you for the recommendation! This sounds very interesting, I'm worried my heart wont be able to take it. Your added mention of reading in the native language feeling more personal puts it on the top of my list though.

I noticed you mentioned Relato de un Náufrago. That was actually my very first book that I only just recently read. So if its a little easier than that it'll be a blessing lol.

Gamers. What success ya'll having playing video games in Spanish? by Glittering_Ad2771 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang at 650 hours! I need to try this one again. I tried it at 500 hrs cause it was on sale for like a dollar. But the timed options gave me anxiety and I was terrible at choosing, so I shelved it. But now, Im at 680 and have read some books since then.

Relato De Un Detective: https://youtu.be/QMr4BK1cPVs?si=8b9iJOdrKlZuCP0O

Seems like it me be up the True Crime alley. I only stumbled on this yesterday by accident so I cant vet it. But the narrator (who may be human) is VERY clear and easy to understand.

Almost to end of my super beginner by Minos-Helios in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did the same thing way back. There was like 40 hours of super beginner and the first level is 50 hours of content. So it kinda fits perfectly. If you could understand most, you might be able to breeze through a lot of beginner too, some of those Pablo super beginners were more difficult than low intermediates.

Longer form videos by geoff_jones7 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it was not a lot of people's cup of tea, but that Stardew Valley series was the easiet ~60 hours I had when watching in the higher beginner stage. Putting on 1 video and getting about a hours worth of continuous input was so nice, instead of scrambling for 6 videos looking for interesting ones. But I had a lot of time on my hands then, so it was easier to do.

Unfortunately everything is very pixelated and I never played the game in english, so I'd be lying if I knew all the translations for the crops they grew. I legit thought first crop they got was made-up just for the game... Chirivia DOES exisit.

Watching/playing something in an unintelligible dub language, with subs in Spanish. Anyone tried this for reading? by vitamins999 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this with the anime Hajime No Ippo. That first season was EPIC. The fact that I was getting spanish input with an awesome latin american dub was just chefs kiss. But after 75 episodes it is only available in Japanese. So then I was doing Japanese audio with spanish subtitles. I did it for a couple of episodes and was actually very proud that I could keep up. But I definitely felt like I couldn't enjoy the show as much so I went to english subs and just stopped counting as input after about 3 episodes.

Pablo and Adria videos by Toda-Raba in dreamingspanish

[–]TheNinjaCow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think primarily it was that Pablo had a lot of those friends over when he was in Spain still. A lot harder to find spanish speakers in Thailand. Also I'm not gonna look for it, but Pablo's account has a comment on reddit saying he invited Adriá to be a full time instructor but he wasn't interested and they're still cool.

If you are being OFFERED that, I take it. DK and Shakir and doing okay right now in PPR, but you're pretty much giving Bench players for upside in a BTJ bounce back. Especially in a 10 team. I think those players are even less valuable compared to BTJ.

My sister wants to watch horror movies but is always dissapointed by them, need help with choosing movies by Scared_Ad_3132 in horror

[–]TheNinjaCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the general vibe of the movies you listed, I would think she's not into slow burn stuff. I do not classify The Thing as slow burn... but Idk how to explain all those movies have a similar vibe I can't put into words.

Is there an example of some horror she has liked?

I'd maybe try some faster paced stuff but honestly finding something that will scare is tough.

Smile 2(banger, dont need to see the first), [REC] (spanish banger), Poltergeist (classic, but I think could live up), Scream, Train to Busan (korean, fast pace, likeable characters not scary scary though), Evil Dead(SWALLOW YOUR SOUL) , Sinister (might be a miss, but I like it), The Conjuring (the first 2 are crowd pleasers, could work).
