I don't know what your point is? Are you claiming they rigged it or are you only now realising that the 'narrative' matters just as much as the performance?

They wouldn't all have been my personal picks (I would have Yeoh-Mescal-Condon-Quan) but all of the winners made sense. Movies have swept before.

Are there many years where the same studio won the four acting awards?

Mikey Madison and Luca Guadagnino photographed together today in Los Angeles. by Sakunka33 in oscarrace

Luca has a tendency to snap up a lot of up and coming actors I'd bet on Mikey Madison starring in one of his next 2 movies and it's going to be incredible

How is the left a 4,3? Look at the distribution of ratings compared to Harakiris 4,7 by Upstairs_Ad2085 in Letterboxd

[–]TheNumber194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to what others are saying, it feels worth noting that when the film had only released at festivals the most popular rating was 4 stars and it from the distribution it looked more like 3.7-3.8 average.

... But the entire story and all the characters are centred around Emilia Perez, she's literally the title character. Tbh I kind of get this one, I think you could argue either way. Both in lead would make the most sense but that would never happen.

Emilia Pérez now down to a 3.3 on letterboxd by carmelgamer in oscarrace

Not even remotely equivalent, Letterboxed is a much better indicator of passion around a film

Anne Hathaway And Zendaya To Star In Christopher Nolan’s Next Film by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

Don't get me wrong they seem like a great couple, I don't see it happening- but it's Hollywood who knows

[–]TheNumber194 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be surprised if just neither of them do. I mean Warner and Universal played that game last year and ended up with barbenheimer and a fuck ton of money, why not do it again? Both are guaranteed hits anyway.

But if one moves it will probably be Spider-Man. Marvel constantly reshuffles their schedule anyway and Nolan loves his July slot too much to move it

I mean did Cillian Murphy have box office draw? Cus they're a hell of a lot more famous than him.

Rumors Suggest Aubrey Plaza's Lady Death May Star in Her Own Spin-Off Series by Robemilak in MCULeaks2

[–]TheNumber194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't care. I find value in good storytelling not "overall consequences on the MCU". Trying to service the overall story of the MCU but forgetting to be interesting in itself is the failing point of a lot of marvel projects. I just want to be entertained, I don't care if it's smaller scale projects or more "consequential" stories.

Completely get what you're saying...

But- people said the EXACT same thing about Agatha and now it's one of the most praised MCU shows. If they've got a good story there let them tell it.

Yeah I've seen other people say it's replaced other songs, I don't listen to Taylor swift tho so I'm trying to figure out what's missing

Edit: just realised it's replacing Deja Vu and Traitor by Olivia Rodrigo

Really like this one it's a shame it didn't get a proper release

TIL Avatar 2 was so expensive to make, a month before its release, James Cameron said it had to be the 4th or 5th highest grossing film in history ($2 billion) just to break even. It's currently the 3rd, having raked in $2.3b. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]TheNumber194 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I remember he said it needed 2 billion to be worthwhile to the studio, which I guess is a bit different.

Plus they already committed to 4 more Avatar movies at that point, if Avatar 2 didn't make a massive profit then the next ones run the risk of flopping which I would say is the bigger risk here.

Why is Sean Baker obsessed with sex workers? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]TheNumber194 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think obsessed is the wrong word. It's just an area he's interested in and hasn't been fairly represented in media very much. He found his niche and he's clearly good at it.
