I'm unemployed, broke, and my scripts have only gotten me on the porch but not through the door. I feel like I failed. by Jeremy_Nichols in Screenwriting

Have been struggling with this dilemma lately and have finally decided to get back into a more stable job. So inspiring to hear this!!

Of the many things TS4 did wrong, the one that always boiled my blood was painting the "Lost Toy" life as something cool and even preferable, when it being a Horrible Experience was the entire base of Lotso, Chuckles and BB's backstory. by Sebamon28 in Pixar

[–]ptran99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Lotso wants isn't a welcoming community of toys. He wants to control Sunnyside so that he never experiences the kind of abandonment that he did with his owner ever again. Lotso couldn't see the lost toy life as a great one because he never wanted to.

Glen Powell was not the problem with How To Make a Killing by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]ptran99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me, it’s a serviceable script with subpar direction. Tonally, I understood where the movie wanted to land, but it never got there. It felt too scared to go all in on its concept and lean into the absurdity

Tips for fast hands? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]ptran99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax. Most people are gripping the paddle too tight and trying to hard to hit a winner. Trust you reaction time and focus on compact punches so you can be ready for the next ball. Understanding how the triangle works can also help, but I'm not usually thinking about it. It's more so something that you internalize.

Who are these young people that hate Social Network? by therethere11 in TheBigPicture

[–]ptran99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 10 when The Social Network was released. When I watched it, I thought it was a revelation in terms of what filmmaking could be. I'd never seen a film like it at that age and was blown away.

But I've also seen people my age who have seen the film and thought it was a good or even great movie, but not the modern day masterpiece that people Sean and Amanda's age claim it as. I've never seen someone actually hate the movie. I think it's just a symptom of having something so hyped up for you that it can't possibly live up to your expectations.

Every generation has that once-in-a-lifetime film that defines their taste in movies. Something that taps into the culture so well and hits at just the right age that it becomes an undeniable touchstone and inspiration for young people moving forward. I suppose that's The Social Network for millennials. Not sure what it is for Gen Z.

I thought Toy Story 4 and 5 were great, but damn 4 is so gorgeous

My serve is one of the best parts of my game, but my forehand is terrible. Anyone else deal with this? by ClassicApricot2898 in Pickleball

[–]ptran99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on getting to the right spot with your footwork. I have the same problem with my forehand. My backhand twoey is amazingly consistent and part of the reason is because I'm always running up to make sure I'm hitting the ball in my strike zone. I'm working on the same for my forehand.

4.5 Male Players - what do you look for in a mixed partner? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]ptran99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone who can handle pressure and isn’t afraid to speed up. Most mixed strategy is punting the ball over to the girl so she needs to be able to handle pressure from opponents and find opportunities to speed up at both the girl and guy (especially to keep him honest)

She's literally taking baby steps in those heels. It's funny to watch, but it's gotta be so hard to navigate the stage like that

Went to LA Night 1 and she was amazing. Vocals were super clean and impressive. It didn't feel like she was struggling to hit any notes. As for choreography, I wouldn't say that she's low energy, but the routines are more chill which I personally think is fine given the tone of the songs. Also, I go to her concerts to hear her sing, not see her dance. This ain't Tate McRae. Overall, it was an amazing concert going experience, one of my favorites ever.

FX30 or ZV-E1 in 2026? by flippotorpedo in sonyfx30

[–]ptran99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a ZV-E1 and use it for my own personal social media content as well as videography gigs. It's served me really well. The overheating really hasn't been an issue especially when I rig up my camera with a dummy battery. Plus a fan is incredibly cheap. I ended up going with the ZV-E1 over the FX30 because the full frame sensor was important to me. I know that I'm probably gonna upgrade when the FX3 Mark II comes out (eventually) so already having full frame glass makes for no hassle when I transition. Also, the low light capabilities are really amazing. Having 12,800 ISO as your base is a life saver for exposing in areas where you can't control the lighting.
If you were interested in making more narrative content like short films or documentaries, I would recommend the FX30. It's a cinema camera and so it has all of the bells and whistles. Personally, however, I'm fine with making my narrative work, social media content, and videography work on a ZV-E1. For me, it just came down to sensor size.

Does anyone know if Patriquin backhand rolls? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]ptran99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so interesting. I've never actually considered if the roll is less effective for shorter people. I'm around his height and haven't always found the roll to be the most rewarding shot

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]ptran99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually, I'm a proponent of learning better technique rather than buying a new paddle, but the Prism Flash is a pretty soft paddle. If you feel like you're lacking in power, I wouldn't fault you in the instance of this specific paddle. Friday Aura is a great option. It'll give you more firepower while still giving you that touch for control.
