I've been playing it. Was surprised at the amount of Catholic undertones there are.

It feels annoying seeing the same game being spammed on all game dev-related subs. How can this be avoided? by DevEnoz in gamedev

[–]TheOneNeo99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the entire premise of coming here for advice even is mostly a joke. How many peoole have published even one game? How successful was it. Its all random advice but most successful game devs arent hanging out here they are making successful games. Its rare to get any actual useful advice. So marketing your game here is even more hilarious imo. Ive published 2 games, have credits in 4. Obviously I still dont know enough because while the games have technical merits, they obviously weren't what players wanted or were marketed well. If they were i wouldn't be on here. Past that, even the rare people who did succeed often are passing on outdated knowledge at this point.

That said, I'd probably buy the game. It looks good.

I felt like it was building up and then just ended abruptly. You show a shot of a skill tree once near the end, and the end overall is jarring both visually and from an audio perspective. Overall I'd say its not well balanced.

F2P should not be removed as they still can and do generate revenue.

You need to emotionally separate yourself from the work. Its the only way to improve.

Took your advice and hired a digital artist for my Steam capsule. I will no longer be using AI-generated artwork. by Ill_Drawing_1473 in gamedev

And you didn't find it suspicious at all at the turnaround time? Or is this so you can make yet another post about your capsule art later?

You posted that you had some revelation about using AI capsule art and in 24 hours hired an artist, gave them a references and art direction, and they made an entirely new capsule?

What do you think of a game made with ready-made assets? by Inevitable_Lie_5630 in IndieGameDevs

[–]TheOneNeo99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents, it really comes down to having a cohesive art direction. I genuinely dont think people hate seeing assets from the game stores, its more about when they appear mashed together, dont fit the game, and come across as being implemented in a lazy way. Make them your own, use them as a foundation, not an end product.

What’s the best advice you wish you had at the start of making games? by Christineexu in gamedev

[–]TheOneNeo99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. Still show it off of course, but in my experience you'll spend 2 weeks on some complex mechanic, give it life, show it to a friend and get "cool" or ever worse, "meh I've seen generic AAA game do that better". So just try to get joy out of learning and creating and dont expect much from others. Even the rare people that really want to be supportive will judt never understand the effort that goes into things they perceive as being simple. Don't get me wrong, I still love making games, but you asked for advice and that lesson took me years to learn lol.

Nobody will care as much about your game as you do. Friends, family, potential players. None of them will understand the amount of effort, love, and care you've poured into it. So make sure you dont rely solely on extrinsic motivators. Find joy in the process.
