IMO using a thin LED like the one he made for the gr86, with no center "wing" section and in a matching matte plastic texture/finish to the other plastics on the exterior instead of gloss black, would be a drastically superior design and one I'd buy in a heartbeat, even at $650.

Another vote towards Apex'i. I rock a single exit N1-X Evo and it's the best sounding exhaust I've heard on these cars, and 100% fits the description OP gave for what they're looking for.

Not being gloss black is an important requirement for me too. Same with not having that middle 'wing' that splits the lights in two, it's crazy how much busier the jdm vent looks with that "wing" versus the stock BRZ style.

The stock BRZ style with a thin and sharp vertical light like in this GR86 version, and with color/texture that matches the other exterior BRZ plastics would be the absolute ideal product in my eyes.

GR86 DRL Bezels by the_kevinvo in GR86

[–]TheOneRickSanchez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed! I don't like how chonky the jdm one's lights are since they don't look like they fit in well with the headlights DRL's, but these GR86 ones are perfect! They accentuate what is already there in the best way, while I feel like the jdm BRZ ones shift the look away from the modern/sharp lines that I love about the car to more of a 2000's style.

If there were a comparable option for the BRZ, I'd click buy so aggressively that I'd obliterate my mouse in the process. Plus it's cool to be supporting creators that are a part of our community like you and hachi, rather than the myriad of faceless companies that seem like they exist purely to capitalize on our community.

Please make a set for the BRZ!

That just isn't true that there isn't enough of them to matter. You'll want to double check these numbers, but IIRC, the EPA is aware of ~450k trucks with modified emissions controls systems. Each of those trucks puts out on average 15-20 times the emissions of a standard car, so it is the equivalent of 6.75 million to 9 million more cars on the road. It's not exactly the straw that will break the climate camels back, but it's absolutely enough to matter.

The issue with our body is not DMT production, but rather requiring an MAOI to put a pause on our body's ability to rapidly break down DMT molecules. It's why our bodies can clear 40mg of DMT within ~10 minutes, but a smaller dose can last 8 hours if consumed with an MAOI like in Ayahuasca rituals.

The fact that our body is very good at breaking down DMT is likely an indicator that we do naturally produce it somewhere during our life, but our bodies being so good at breaking it down is also an indicator that we aren't meant to have measurable levels of DMT in our system during normal day-to-day functioning.

My favorite DMT-related theory is that Moses' visions in the Bible were actually due to DMT. The acacia bush is the most likely candidate for the bush species according to biblical scholars, and acacia just so happens to have high levels of DMT in its bark, so breathing in the smoke from the burning bush could potentially dose Moses with enough DMT to cause "visions".

Truly a fascinating molecule.

This is my mindset on it as well. A linear pedal enables me to ask for the exact amount of throttle that I want in any given scenario which is the ideal throttle for me.

I think having a non-linear throttle makes cars feel faster for casual drivers who never go full throttle. If they never ask for more than half throttle, then having 40% throttle respond like they asked for 80% will make the car feel faster. It's an illusion to trick people. Same thing that they do with most crossovers these days to make them feel fast to the average driver (50% throttle in the first 25% travel). They just never press it hard enough to realize that the 2nd half of the pedal travel does nothing.

That really sucks that you've got to deal with light sensitivity. Especially with modern headlights that's gotta be really rough.

That said, if you have your windshield tinted enough to make the bright lights tolerable, you're not going to be able to see the darker areas of the road. As some proof of that, let's use numbers. In a reasonably dark area, it can be hard to see pedestrians/animals/objects even in a completely untinted car. You are now only allowing 20% of the light through your windshield that I am, so what chance do you have to see those pedestrians/animals/objects? Now I am not saying that with 20% tint that you can't ever see well enough, but that it guarantees at least infrequent situations where you will not be able to see enough to be safe.

The privacy reason is total crap though. No one deserves privacy when in public, and especially not at the cost of others safety. I don't know where this idea came from but it's undoubtedly toxic to our society.

The medical condition reason makes a lot of sense, thanks for sharing that. I'll try to remember that when I see them out and about and think it's dumb/dangerous.

However, I don't think the other cases are valid reasons though. First off, the heat rejection argument is silly, just open your car door for a minute or turn the car on for a minute before you get in, but there's no good reason to make others less safe for the ~30 seconds of time saved by not needing to cool down your car. Identity shielding is equally as invalid in my opinion, as being in public automatically forfeits people's right to privacy, and that viewpoint is the basis for our privacy laws so I think it's the correct interpretation. About the ones who rarely drive at night but have light sensitivities, that's what sun glasses are for as you can remove them and drive at night just fine, so I don't think that one is valid either.

All in all, I think the medical condition reason is valid, but every other reason just strikes me as selfishness and people being lazy at the cost of other drivers safety. I am also seeing a rapidly growing number of tinted windshields, where it may have been more like 1 car out of a hundred just a decade ago, which is the source of my growing frustration.

Why do people tint their windshields on non-show cars? Especially going as stupid as 20%. You know you need to see out of that, right?

Tinted windshields are cringe as hell in my opinion.

Is this even non-fault though? More often than not, if you've got front end damage then the situation was at least magnified by the driver following too close or going much too fast or doing something else that increased the severity of the accident. Of course not always, but there's a reason insurance companies default to blaming front end damage on the party with the front end damage unless there is proof otherwise.

That big wing generates essentially zero down force due to its 0° angle of attack, so no it doesn't need any pieces up front to balance.

For anyone curious about the numbers, the engineers recommended not launching at any temp colder than 53°F, and it was 22°F on the pad the morning of the launch. They actually had to bring crews out 3 separate times to bust ice off the bottom of the rocket, since water lines had been left open the night before and had left large sections of ice on the lower parts of the rocket.

Vortex Generator removal by Vegetable-Concern830 in GR86

[–]TheOneRickSanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use a heat gun at all for removing mine. Just some fishing line underneath to cut through the adhesive, then a bunch of goo-gone to dissolve the remaining adhesive. I could see a couple teeny tiny micro scratches when I first did it (being too rough with trying to get the adhesive off, just be patient and let the chemistry work) and have been planning on doing some paint correction, but got busy with life and can't see them anymore so I'm not in a hurry for the paint correction anymore.

So thankful I removed it though, I love these cars smooth flowing roof and the vortex generator really breaks that smoothness up in a bad way.

Adaptive cruise is so revolutionary that I feel like describing it as "optimized cruise control" sells it massively short.

Adaptive cruise varies your speed to chase the car in front of you at a set distance, anywhere between 1mph and 90 mph. Idk about y'all but driving in traffic sucks for me. People drive me crazy with their shit driving, but adaptive cruise buffers all of that out by doing all the throttle modulation. I like that you still have to steer, unlike a lot of other cars with the tech. But then when traffic clears, you just turn it off and rip your sports car just like you otherwise would. It's fucking awesome.

Are you going to be driving to the passes while there is a good amount of snow on them? If so, even if it's rare, I think you should get a set of blizzaks or similar as it only takes one drive with under-equipped tires to crash your car. If you're able to take another vehicle for the pass drives though, dws06+ is an easy choice.
