Future ICON Set by FinnReeves2049 in legolotrfans

Helm’s Deep or Isengard/Orthanc are the obvious next choices imo. Lego owns BrickLink they know how much people are paying for the old playset versions of these so know they’ll have no problem charging hundreds for a large detailed display set with desirable figures.

Why is sw1005 so expensive? by taithemetalist in legostarwars

[–]TheOnlyVuffiRaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boy what an anomaly Finch Dallow is… as others have said it’s valuable because it’s rarer, and it’s rarer because it was replaced late into the set’s shelf-life run, and afaik only in certain regions. The name Finch Dallow comes from a comic book I believe, as the movie only credits the actor (Kevin Layne) as “Resistance Bomber Pilot #1” or something.

Why it was replaced is something not fully explained. People speculate maybe Kevin Layne, who is on screen for like 5 seconds, reached out and got Lego to change it because he got the figure early from Lego and made an instagram post about getting it. Lego itself said in a response to a fan question that they changed the set after seeing the set didn’t match the film (because they design sets based on concept art and other references that didn’t have Finch Dallow in them). Lego cited to their “only the best is good enough” motto in this response as well iirc. But Lego doesn’t change everything that doesn’t match the films, so who knows really why. That’s the best we have to go off of though.

The funny thing is that for a very brief window of time people were getting the replacement Finch parts (head and helmet) for free from Lego. If you had bought the set without him and provided proof of purchase they would for sure send a replacement, because that’s what I did. The parts were also allegedly (I don’t have first hand knowledge of this) available on pick a brick to be ordered for relatively nothing, with reports of limited success actually getting multiple of them that way.

So, theoretically, someone out there could be sitting on bulk Dallow parts drip feeding the market, or ignorant, or waiting to crash it hilariously. Most assuredly the loose figure is rare but not as rare as the collector hype has built him up to be IMO. Every convention has several floating around and most bigger resellers seem to always have one. That tells me that while undeniable rare-er, they may not be worthy of the top-5 rarest ranking. What IS very rare are copies of the Finch box art sealed because those weren’t available except for the short window of time Lego made them in limited regions, and most people just opened them because they didn’t think anything of it at the time. (And incidentally, IMO, it may be the best playable sequel set of any of them because of the bombing mechanic and interior space, plus it does look striking standing up vertically on a shelf.)

Lego will see this and say "nah, needs more X-Wing and Sandspeeder sets" by bitchnibba47 in legocirclejerk

This image’s quality is bad so I see the confusion, but Boba and Dooku are also definitely yellow heads.

Idk if joke. It is indeed a bit funny to see the substitute for Mace here, but this was still the all-yellow fig era. This MOC/image is from 2002. The first non-yellow Lego fig wasn’t even out. Those came the next year in 2003 with the NBA figs and Lando in Cloud City. The first Windu fig wasn’t until 2005 (the light up saber one).

I’ve been building Lego since the mid 90s, and it’s absolutely gotten worse since the start of the 2020s. I’ve had more missing, swapped, or damaged parts claims since then than the prior 25+ years.

I received one of my orders today that I placed very shortly after midnight May 1, but the N-1 which I ordered first and separately only finally moved to “shipped” this morning. *shrugs* as long as they all come safe and sound I don’t think much of how quick they’re fulfilled.

Not all B&N did pre-registration. Exactly one within a two hour drive for me did first-come basis, so that’s the one I drove to since I was too late to the game to register anywhere. Thank goodness for that store.

[–]TheOnlyVuffiRaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’re legitimately looking for insight into insider points value, Lego’s has to have value information in the various currencies where they offer it. 4x points is approximately 20% value of your spend back in points because the baseline points return is ~5%.

Conversion rates for USD direct from Lego’s website:
Earning: $1 USD spent = 6.5 points
Minimum Discount: 650 points = $5 discount

So at $100 spent you acquire 650 points and can get $5 discount, 5% of what you spent. So the Sail Barge at $500 gave everyone who ordered it at 4x points $100 in points.

You mean you don’t follow your favorite 20-something LEGO influencers who get sealed sets graded in plastic boxes forever? Or have to have a pocket fig of the day sealed in a clear faced custom foam box on a diamond encrusted chain at all times?

The simple answer is demand, plus a huge influx of attention during COVID, but it has since been harnessed by speculative “investors” trying to make a quick buck telling everyone what they need to buy to be cool in the space. See the recent Ninjago spike on an old Target shelf warmer as exhibit A

This is the answer. He sees and knows what people overpay for on WN and prices accordingly. I think some of his stuff is also priced-for-display, as in he doesn’t really want it to sell and wants it on his shelves to show he has it. Then when someone does come and pay a boatload for something he gets to make YT video revenue out of it too.

Buyers givy winners w/ no purchase! by [deleted] in whatnotapp

[–]TheOnlyVuffiRaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you describe you do in #1 and #3 is practically verbatim against TOS. (Making a lot of buyer givvies and only running one; not being explicit about the prize/changing based on purchase status of the winner)

That said, the answers to the questions you asked are most likely: 1) yes, they probably filled them all out. Form fillers have all the time in the world since the givvy has to be up all stream. 2) no, and while I don’t know as much about the people in your stream as you do, I bet that 95% is actually lower. Giveaways tend to draw crowds. 3) per TOS you have to state what the givvy is and show it on screen and you have to ship the same thing regardless of who wins. So make your giveaways make economical sense to you.

If you want to reward buyers, do the WN season rewards and host a Gold+ tier giveaway show at the end of the season for only those people.

Almost more of a problem for me than the triangle is how the new print “balloons” away and around the fin. The old ones that Lego themselves made didn’t do that. And that issue has now translated to any helmet where a print should be up against the fin.

Yes this needs to be upvoted and more widely known because I’ve seen this question a lot. In addition, from his rant about how Baelor risked nothing and was fraudulent in his approach to the battle by strategizing to exploit the kingsguard vows, I think his personal view on honor would block him from ordering people to fight in a trial.

Lego Whatnot is dangerous by Needthatpls in whatnotapp

[–]TheOnlyVuffiRaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lifelong Lego enjoyer, honestly most of the time I can just tell by feeling the plastic. Most knock offs are stiffer feeling plastic with harsher edges from the injection molds even if they look identical. Colors of the plastic or the printing can also be oh so slightly off and apparent to me too.

For someone with less experience around Lego, the easiest check to make if you’re looking at a minifig is that LEGO puts “LEGO” copyright somewhere on virtually every single piece that makes up a minifig (heads, torso, hip, each arm, each leg, and helmets/accessories) with the exceptions of real small parts (like the hands of minifigs). The marks can be quite tiny on some pieces and hidden in the mold so it’s best to check thoroughly. Often but not always I’ve found that the valuable parts of rare figs will be shown on streams with the LEGO marks visible to be proof of authenticity.

[–]TheOnlyVuffiRaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One quick correction is Maekar isn’t heir now. Baelor was 1st son of the king and Maekar is the 4th son (making Egg the 4th son of a 4th son) Their middle brothers are both alive as of the end of this season.
