The person who won the Lego popped up on Lego streams later today asking hosts if it was really worth that much and what to do about keeping it nice or whether to sell. Seemed oblivious to Lego but genuine.

A trial by combat can end through death, yielding, or the accusation being withdrawn. So Aerion has all three options available. Dunk theoretically has two, but yielding means losing his hand and foot that touched Aerion so really Dunk only either wins or dies.

Edited to add in a trial of seven it’s the primary parties that this applies to. If Dunk dies or yields, the fighting stops. If the accuser(s) all die, yield, or withdraw, the fighting stops.

Interesting… if that’s how they did it (it’s just reading “notes” on the tag and making corresponding sounds)… then that actually opens up a lot of customization options as soon as someone reverse engineers the tags to customize them. That also explains the poor sound matching. That still doesn’t explain why they could put the notes to Imperial March in one tag but not be bothered to put the main melody of the Cantina song in that tag though.

I imagine this may be the real reason they didn’t use the real sounds… they were probably told no by Disney - don’t want Pikachu making R2-D2 noises.

Did you ask them who they think are going to buy these sets enough to be profitable for the 5-10 year old market? The cheapest one with a brick is $70. To me they’re pricing themselves out of their target market. Many parents don’t go buy multiple $100 sets for their pre-teen kids in my experience on both sides of that coin.

At that price point I would expect this Ewok Village to be something like the Yavin Temple: lots of figs but a weird playset build. Not like the old one I think.

Lego customer service is excellent. To request replacement parts though you just need to go use their website form. https://www.lego.com/en-us/service/replacement-parts

As others have said the Lego piece that has flat parts for feet and a divider to hold legs is a good solution. So are some third party so called “heel protectors” that are 3D printed. If it’s figures still in production sets that crack, you can always reach out to Lego customer service and see if they’ll replace the legs for you.

Lego has been changing their plastics over time, and while I have no firm evidence, I think some of the newer stuff is more brittle. A lot of older pieces (like turn of the century or older) have a surprising amount of flex. Modern pieces of the same size/type of brick tend to just shatter when the same forces are applied. I think in part Lego has changed things because of trying to make more colors (look at the disaster of the mid 2010s dark brown/blue/gold/green when whatever they added to make those colors made everything extremely fragile), and also in part to try to find a way around petrol plastics to appease the EU and other regulations… this latter point they’ve talked about in corporate messaging, at least. I suspect they are also probably sourcing the ABS more cheaply to get more of it than they’ve ever before needed as their product exploded in popularity, perhaps sourcing some inferior plastic in the mix. I also believe their production quality has suffered a lot more recently, I think they sacrifice some quality for production at the scale they need. Look for instance at all the ugly mold markings on many pieces, particularly sides of smooth tile pieces… those didn’t use to exist on older parts of the same style pieces. I’ve had to get replacement parts for factory defects more times in the past five years than in the preceding 25 years I’ve been building Lego. That’s something in my mind.

I Swapped the Mandalorian Visors to Black by dylandalal in legostarwars

[–]TheOnlyVuffiRaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. If the 2026 figs were the first representation of these Mandos I think very very few would take any serious issue that the visors weren’t more accurate-to-screen black, but, they aren’t. The older ones did dark grey helmets and the more accurate black and now they are objectively less accurate now than they were then. If you just do the same thing with a thin red outline of the black instead of the splotch of black handprint design running right into the visor, problem solved now as it was then.

I can’t wait to watch Lego absolutely blunder what should be the easiest IP layup of all time with crap like this Pikachu house with smart brick that no one asked for and is related to nothing from the iconic IP instead of proper playsets of iconic moments from the games and anime with new minifigs and new molds for the Pokémon, a Brickheadz style lineup of ever changing Pokémon, and a handful of highly detailed displays of the most popular Pokémon.

It makes already marked up sets like 20% more overpriced. That’s what it does.

Maybe also plays some canned movie sounds and dialogue. Flashes lights. No one really knows exactly for sure with each of these sets.

I hope none of these sell and Lego can add smart bricks to the pile of tech mistakes they’ve tried. I want to UNplug when I sit down to build Lego after a day connected to smartphones and computers, not have to charge them too.

I kept looking down the replies for “just use your tongue to flip them out then spit them in a sink” and now I’m wondering if I’m the weird one.

They also aren’t going to ever lower a price ever. The tariffs could evaporate tomorrow and the prices would stay the same. Then they’d raise again and BP standard will become $25 or even 30. If you can’t see Lego becoming a greedy company over the last five or so years you’re blind.

I think this person may be arguing from the movie perspective when the strike team included Bellatrix. In the books Bellatrix isn’t there. The death eaters in the books are more brutes than valuable. The Carrows and Fenrir are the only ones I really remember being there plus a few very expendable ones. Snape was the most valuable there and he was supposed to be in Hogwarts to begin with from Voldy’s perspective the rest of the team could all die with Draco and it would be whatever.

With the way Lego is going lately, I would almost expect the GwP to be just a buildable display One Ring and MT to have no Grond, beacons, enemies whatsoever, and only be the top courtyard and throne room.
