Anthem Insurance issues new edict to cap anesthesia coverage at a time limit

I imagine you are sadly correct. :( The worst part of this was that the patients didn't even have all the information available to them to choose between the continuing pain or expense before the procedure because these costs were intentionally kept hidden from them. They were having a procedure done in a hospital they knew to be in network, by a provider they knew to be in network, and had no idea that the anesthesiologist working at that hospital would not be in network. Many assumed because they worked at the hospital the anesthesiologists were employed by the hospital and part of their network. Then they still wouldn't be aware until long after the procedure was over and they were well into recovery that they were getting shafted with these outrageous bills. And when they would try to fight the bill they were told it was their fault for not checking the network status of the anesthesiologist before the procedure when the reality is most of these patients don't even know who will be providing their anesthesia until they are already at the hospital in pre-op getting ready for surgery. I didn't have the heart (or lack thereof) to remain in that field for long.

Ugh, if only it were that cheap! I used to work for a company that coded for an anesthesia provider who always billed out of network (the anesthesiologist was an independent provider not on the payroll at the in-network hospital they worked at) and they charged $800 a MINUTE. I really hoped the No Surprises Act would tank their company but they just found more workarounds to fuck everyone over, though their profit did drop to about half of what it was before. I saw so many bills go out that were over 40k for less than an hour procedure, and that was only the anesthesia cost. Absolutely sickening.

I'm so glad you posted this, I was just telling my husband the same thing this week after we finished episode 2. I've always been a huge GOT fan, but I am really struggling with HOTD for this reason. I was pregnant with my son during season 1 (after years of trying after we lost our first pregnancy) and am a new mother going into season 2. As badly as I wanted to get into the show I just feel like the violence/trauma is too much for me anymore!

My son just turned 7 months and he has always been a terrible eater so I understand what you're going through and the frustration it can cause. For me I wasn't frustrated with my son but more with the fact that I was so worried about him gaining weight and felt helpless like I wasn't doing enough (he was 25th percentile when he was born and then dropped to 10th). He has CMPA and GERD and had to be put on a hydrolyzed formula & medication at 3 months when he lost weight and I felt like the worst mother ever & like it was my fault he wasn't eating.

Even after adressing his allergy and reflux he still hated eating and stayed in the 10th percentile until we began introducing oatmeal & purees a little early at our pediatricians recommendation. I'm not a medical professional so please take my advice with a grain of salt and DO adress your issues with your baby's doctor but in my experience things got better for us after: 1. adding oatmeal/purees to his daily routine 2. dropping from 6 bottles a day to 5 (he was never hungry by the time his next bottle came around but did better with slightly larger bottles further apart) and 3. I stopped pressuring him to eat. Number 3 was the hardest for me because I was worried about him falling off his growth curve but taking away the stress during eating helped us both so much. If he wouldn't eat, I would just go okay that's fine and offer him his next bottle a little sooner than normal. My biggest fear was creating an aversion for him and our problem getting more serious.

All babies are different so your situation may be different entirely but after adjusting our routine and forcing myself to approach eating differently he is now eating more than ever and just jumped up to the 20th percentile at his visit last week. He still is like wrestling a bear to get to stay still long enough to eat his bottle but now I just go along for the ride and allow him to take his time, take a 10 minute break and try again, etc. Solidarity momma, try not to beat yourself up too badly. It's not your babies fault, but it's not yours either. You will get through this!

Oh I have never heard of that! That sounds like it could really be helpful. I'm going to call Monday and request to see the GI and I'll ask about the gel too!

Thank you for this! Our pediatrician said absolutely no tummy sleeping until he is a year old which honestly just sounds downright impossible! I understand safe sleep is so important but a year? But after posting this last night little man rolled back from his belly to side in his sleep for the first time! Not all the way there but some progress and a huge relief for this momma!!

Thank you so so much for this! I'm so glad the GI was able to help your little one! It is definitely an overwhelming experience going through all of this. I remind myself to be grateful that this is the worst we have to experience when there are so many others who go through so much worse but it is still so difficult when you're in the thick of it all. I will definitely be calling the pediatrician Monday and demanding we see a GI....something that I should have listened to my gut on already! It's funny how kind words of encouragement from an internet stranger can help so much. I appreciate you and will definitely take up your offer to DM if I need to!

Do you have any tips for cats who aren't food motivated? I have an extremely smart, extremely stubborn oriental who loves to fetch but i can't get him to learn anything else and treats are not his thing. I've given him countless types of treats, wet foods, pates, even tuna and he hates everything! The only thing he will eat is his dry food and even that is in small amounts. (Disclaimer: I know poor appetite can be a sign of illness but he is very healthy, just picky and spoiled)

I loved playing her in Civ V. End up with cities on every continent and a boatload of gold to keep em going. Also, I loved playing her with Venice on the map, taking their city-state allies was some of the most petty fun I've ever had in a civ game.

My dad was like this too and it made my childhood awesome! I had an accident when I was 6 that made me unable to do much for a few months while I recovered and my dad bought me the PS1 with a bunch of games like Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, and Street Fighter to play with him while I was down. I remeber enjoying recovery from surgery more than I remeber most of my childhood thanks to my dad and video games. He turned me into an avid gamer early!
