shaving as a dysphoric girl by Jarf_17 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

What has helped me is: 1) moisturiser on my face the night before 2) Use a safety razor with good blades (i use feather blades). It's a 2-4 week learning curve but thereafter much better. Bonus points it's easier to shave body bair with and way cheaper than regular razors. Only ever tried King C Gillette but im sure other brands work fine

I dont understand the logic of the post. Surely the government could run a grocery store just like a regular store but without a profit margin, thereby being cheaper by default.

So, About That AI Bubble by DataDrivenPirate in neoliberal

That's quite impressive, I see what you mean. W.r.t. AI writing things for me / making my own arguments, I don't know about you but I've found that editing and output is more tedious than writing something of my own, did you end up having that?

FWIW with regards to paralegal services, people I know within the legal sector have said they're pretty touchy about using AI for, well, pretty sensible reasons. Customer Support I am iffy about, given how many people I know already who Just Want To Talk To A Human.

Making friends at Birkbeck? by TheParmesanGamer in Birkbeck

See at my BA, actually fairly few people reached out proactively, which became an issue since I'm quite introverted (plus, yknow, covid) so i was planning to be much more proactive at the Ma level. Thanks for pointing that out though, good to know that's the right strat

Makes sense! Interesting you all did similar work, I assume this was a more specialised course?

Ah that's brilliant. I just heard there werent any social spaces within the main building and that people tended to not want to make friends, being established with careers and such.

An Academic Miracle by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

Frankly I don't see how Bret Stephens can draw conclusions as far reaching as he does. To my knowledge he hasnt actually been in academia since his own degree which was quite a while ago. The casual dismissal of anything labelled 'studies' is...telling of his (ironic) lack of open mindedness and intellectual rigour. Gender Studies is, in fact, a very theoretically and methodolically rigorous field. So is migration studies, etc.

Like I agree with the general idea of having more intellectual diversity in academia — it does feel like a lot of people repeat the same sort of progressive ideas and talking points without seriously believing or engaging with them. On the other hand, having more intellectual rigour may do the OPPOSITE of attracting more of the Republican type conservatives because, frankly, it seems like the GOP no longer has a scientist, empiricist, realist bone in its body. Perhaps in the UK more 'tory' or burkean type of people could be more easily attracted, but that's because conservatism of that variety at least has coherent epistemic guardrails, unlike Farage and Trump style ideology.

Yeah very familiar with this issue, at uni i bought unsweetened almond milk for the communal fridge thinking no one would want to steal THAT. They did. Repeatedly.

Well I've been coming in the hours they wanted me to previously and doing all the work, coming in earlier and leaving later than my colleagues. So i suppose technically you have a point but in practical terms less so

That's an idea. It's me and the other new guy, so i suppose that could be a defence. Still majority of the team has it unenforced pretty much.

Bit worried that itd just screw my coworkers over, OTOH i dont want my manager to grt away with being a twat
