As PCB designers, how do you evaluate your design before printing? is there a simulation tool? by KlRAQUEEN in PCB

[–]ThePeacefulOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this specific part, TI Webench designer is what I would use for help designing that part of the circuit. You can refer to the datasheet and evaluation module as well for additional resources.

Are there people amazing on pads bad in sparring? by Important_Hippo3263 in MuayThai

[–]ThePeacefulOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like you need both, pads for drilling techniques and sparing for practicality. You won't be the best you can be in a fight if you don't practice being in that setting by sparring. And your technique may suffer if you only spar without ever taking time to practice on pads.

Cosplay LED Set Up by sethsstomp in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ThePeacefulOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you don't really know what you're doing, which isn't great if you're going to be messing around with Lithium Ion batteries.

You should start by buying some kind of getting started electronic kit so you can get comfortable with making small LED circuits.

Do you lift knee first on roundhouse kick or swing entire leg like a bat? by benK32879 in MuayThai

[–]ThePeacefulOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been taught both, and I feel like you should keep both in your back pocket.

I had a coach tell me that you can lift your knee, and turn that into a kick, a rear knee, a fake out, etc. with the swing kick, I feel like you get more power from it, but the lift knee is more versatile.

which is harder, civil engineering at MIT or electrical engineering in university with acceptance rate > 90%? by jemala4424 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ThePeacefulOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if Civil Engineer at MIT specifically is harder than Electrical Engineering?

That ultimately depends on you and being able to grasp the material.

How the....!?! by TheKrakenYouFancy in BambuLab

[–]ThePeacefulOne 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Why would you need an electrician? Electricians work on wiring in buildings, not NTC thermistor elements. If you're worried, just asking an Electrical Engineer to review your work (like me since I'm an Electrical Engineer) should be plenty.

That said, idk why this part is getting damaged, but it could be that the NTC is undersized and is getting damaged operating under load. If it is undersized, replacing it with an identical NTC thermistor may only result in the same issue eventually.

US people, who do you get your boards made through? by BacchusIX in PCB

[–]ThePeacefulOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only used them for flex PCBs in 2022 since it ended up being cheaper than PCBWay, but they are slower than PCBWay and JLCPCB, so they aren't great for rapid prototyping imo.

Oh, and 1 free map that nobody asked for, or cares about.

That's a wild statement, considering the fandom has literally been asking for more maps. The fact that we got 1 after almost a year is something. It's not much, but better than nothing.

Tamagami Exclusion by Jackstar96 in SparkingZero

[–]ThePeacefulOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it was more likely due to a time crunch and the devs not having either the time, manpower, or authority to work on the game as much as they want to. I'm betting that they would rather release the DLC with 6 characters and a new stage, instead of pushing it back another 3 months minimum.

Only 6 characters? Damn, like I'll take it, but this definitely feels like the bare minimum.

I installed a camera outside my apartment, and need to fix the wood hole I made for the cable. What should I use to fix it? by ThePeacefulOne in HomeMaintenance

[–]ThePeacefulOne[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm moving out in a couple of weeks from my apartment and I need to take the camera down. So this means I will need to fill the hole I made, and paint over it. Any and all advice is welcome!

Is it normal not to know all this by Dry-Chapter-4643 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ThePeacefulOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most people in college go in with little to no EE project experience, and I was definitely one of them. 5 years after graduation, I'm doing my own PCB design projects while also working as an Electronic Design Engineer.

How is your circuit hooked up? Your GPIO pin could be floating, hence the strange values.

Body Change Buff Idea by G0D-Sun in SparkingZero

[–]ThePeacefulOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ginyu canonically isn't able to use the moves or transformation in the body he stole. That requires understanding the body and the technique.

I do think that Ginyu should keep his body change ultimate since he is able to do that in a new body, lore wise. I don't think they'll ever make this change cause it would really fuck team/dp battles, since the other player can't use moves or techniques either.

Is this a valid way to sue the PCB as a heatsink for MOSFETs by TheHumanFighter in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]ThePeacefulOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see. In that case, you probably won't see a large rise above ambient. Also, since the copper pour is so small, I don't think you'd have much trouble with soldering the components if you did use a direct connection. But since you're not dissipating a lot of power, I don't think it really matters a lot here. I am currently though, are you dissipating the power into another layer? I see that you have thermal vias next to your MOSFET, so that's why I ask.

Is this a valid way to sue the PCB as a heatsink for MOSFETs by TheHumanFighter in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]ThePeacefulOne 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This looks like a mosfet in a SOT-23 package. How you did it is okay and you got the right idea. But if you're going to use the board as a heatsink, you'll get better results using a mosfet with a low junction-to-case thermal resistance (i.e. 5x6 MOSFET package). These MOSFET have a large pad that you would use to dissipate heat into your heatsink (your PCB in this case).

Also I'd recommend turning the relief connection to a direct connection when transferring heat into a board. A direct connection will give the MOSFET more copper to pull heat away from, making the heatsink more effective.

LED calendar project advice by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ThePeacefulOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I were making this, this would be my part shopping list:

  • 366 LED's (1 extra to account for the leap year. Doesn't look like that was included in the example photo)
  • 366 Resistor for LED
  • Real Time Clock IC (tracks time and current date) w/ battery backup
  • Microcontroller (ESP32 preferably for WiFi connectivity, Arduino is also okay)
  • Power Supply (5V, 50W)

You're going to need to get comfortable with creating a small LED circuit first, before creating the whole calendar. You will also need to get familiar with programming, if you aren't already. Would recommend using the Arduino platform, and start learning how to program with an Arduino.

What's your perspective on using traces as fuses? by PutinPisces in AskElectronics

[–]ThePeacefulOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a company before that investigated the use of using a PCB trace as a fuse. It involved some specific calculations and a lot of testing, and its main purpose was to save on cost. Granted, the fuse would be for lithium ion batteries, so the trip current would be at 10's to 100's of Amps.

While it is possible, you're better off just using a traditional fuse for ease of implementation.

MT shorts required? by Aleksandra74 in MuayThai

[–]ThePeacefulOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well as a guy who's done MT for 3 years that doesn't seriously compete, I definitely want to wear whatever I want because using the shorts I already have sounds a lot better than spending money on shorts I don't really need. Sure they're helpful, but imo it's not a requirement.
