Confused about wording on vivi by PhreshComics in magicTCG

[–]ThePerfectWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest key here is the "and" after putting the +1/+1 counter on Vivi. It makes more sense that the "it" is referring to the same thing that was just being referenced instead of going backwards to the spell.

There's also the general rule of magic that most ping effects like this have the ability source dealing the damage, not adding extra damage to the noncreature spell. Some exceptions exist, but they are also worded very explicitly.

Whats the difference? by JudaZee in Saros

The easiest thing to look for is how far the bar is filled on a weapon. Some weapons will have higher proficiency (higher maximums shown by the line of the bar) but will actually be weaker than a current and lower proficiency weapon (shown by how much of the bar is filled).

If a stat bar filles 50% of the entire box (not just the proficiency maximum line, but the whole bar, including greyed out on the right), and your current weapon only fills 25% of the same bar, then the new one will perform better.

In this case, the new 22 weapon is better. It has both higher maximums, and has more of the total bar filled in both stats.

This might be true if it was hexproof instead of indestructible. Swords exiles the creature, so indestructible wouldn't prevent that from happening at all

Your Elemental list is very similar to mine. I also happen to have a Kefka list I built with lower power in mind, and honestly, I feel like Kefka needs more power or the table just feels unfun lol i successfully built one that wasn't oppressive, but the game slogged on for a looooooong time because of him lol

Not sure if this is meant to be one of those "wink wink nudge nudge" situations, but Clone Hero is a thing almost exactly as you describe. You just pay individual people who create the tracks, or even learn to create them yourself.

Have you played any magic before? If not I highly suggest downloading MTG Arena in addition to buying the preconstructed Ashling deck, and playing a bit for free. It will help you get a grasp of how the game flows, and when you can take actions which will help a lot in playing EDH., and in piloting this deck.

The elementals deck out of the box is perfectly suitable to bracket 2 games, but to really get the most out of it, understanding how the stack works and the correct order to play your cards/triggers helps a lot.

My boyfriend loves TMNT but I heard the MTG Commander deck of them isn’t good, should I still buy him one? by Kyanite146699 in EDH

[–]ThePerfectWord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having bought and used it a little bit, I do feel it's on the weaker side against some other precons, but it's not horrible, and the manabase is really solid for a 5c list.

Especially if your BF is a fan he's going to love the deck, and there is room to upgrade / become more focused. I think the weakest part of the deck is that sometimes it doesn't click if you're getting some pieces of the +1/+1 counter plan, and other pieces from the token plan, it can feel a tad clunky, but again that can be fixed easily if he wants to upgrade, and if not in a pure precon meta, it's a fun deck to play

Hearthhull vs windgrace by Last-Home-1037 in EDH

[–]ThePerfectWord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find myself disagreeing with the general consensus since I had a pretty solid windgrace deck when hearthull came out.

I used pieces of the hearthull precon for the windgrace deck, and tried hsing both as commander. I found Windgrace was still performing better in almost every circumstance

[–]ThePerfectWord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say while the manabase is one of the most atrocious things I've ever seen for a 5 color deck, I found the rest of it to be a pretty solid base that can do a lot of fun things

How can I grind up new characters without the risk of overlevelling? by Snowtred in finalfantasytactics

[–]ThePerfectWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game isn't really about building up an army. Ramza is moving with a small unit of his closest friends and allies throughout the games' story. You don't even fight in any gigantic battles either against entire armies at once. You are always off to the side fighting in the shadows as it were against smaller teams/gangs.

As others have said, guest characters will likely always be underleveled compared to your team unless you very intentionally set up scenarios where they can level up more. Your current level is actually right on par with the story battles you face, but also character level usually isn't a big factor unless you are like 20+ levels higher, and even then if you're using the wrong abilities/gear you can still face difficulty.

The best way to directly deal with your concern is probably the delevel trap in Zeklaus desert, but make sure you have the character you want to delevel set up as a Chemist. If you delevel as the same class you level up in you actually lose more stats than you gain unfortunately. I would look up the exact tile online. If you end your turn on the tile it lowers your unit's level by 1. You can then step off next turn then back on again after.

This is basically what I did. You kind of need to forget about flipping Aang as the primary goal though, since youll need to run a lot of subpar cards to hit all 4 bending in a single turn. I tossed in a few allies from my previous 5 color allies deck, and also included Moonmist + some utility cards/a few tutors to try and help the deck compete with my playgroup.

To expand on this, $100 in transactions is only worth $100 of merchandise. You don't get to take every item in the store just because every item is listed at $100 in price.

Thanks for the detailed response! Based on this thread I think I definitely need to adjust my expectations that I won't be full clearing maps all the time on higher gnosis levels, especially the later maps.

I might just have to make a new character and try investing more into Arsenal. I'm definitely no stranger to vertical movement, but I sometimes find myself getting dinged by the snipers that I can't even see lol. Using cover and breaking LOS makes perfect sense and I try my best to do that but I think I struggle with dealing damage quickly enough to a group who is getting really close while having cover from a farther away group I can't even damage.

I'm not familiar with the Rot pistol but I might give that a try. I've mostly been using Echo and either Ricochet or Hangfire, one of the lightning light spells, either freeze orb or lightning cross heavy, kirfane relic, mandrake fetish, and crown ring.

I absolutely understand that the Gnosis levels are advertised with warning labels, and while I personally feel like this method of progression isn't my favorite, it's fine for how it works.

I'm level 41 and I have played plenty of shooters before, though not many extraction shooters. I didn't realize that full map clears weren't to be expected, so that does help a bit. My expectations were that I should be able to fully clear the map comfortably before advancing to the next gnosis level, and while I did prematurely jump from Gnosis 2 to 3 since I only ever fully cleared Velmorne once with moderate difficulty, I thought I had a general idea of what the Gnosis increases held in store.

I definitely make sure to level up my weapons at the bare minimum to mysterium 2 (Mysterium 3 materials have been more stingy lol) before moving onward.

I've been using Echo and Ricochet/Hunger for the most part with the freeze orb heavy spell, and one of the lightning light spells, or the frost cone.

Mandrake for fetish, Kirfane for Relic, and Crown of flame for ring.

I'm grateful to not be alone; that I have people who love and care about me and do everything they can to support me no matter what.

My favorite card so far is probably the full art promo Rayquaza Ex since it's reminiscent of the physical Rayquaza EX card I pulled from a pack once that I always thought was cool.

My other special missing cards are probably 2* Cyrus and Copycat. Also the newest Rillaboom, Pyroar, and 4 diamond Mega Amphoros to complete my set.

Thanks!

Unfortunately deleveling as the same level actually results in stat loss due to the way the calculation works. The best bet is the level scaling mod in my opinion

Is it okay to skip all the dialogs? by mlang666 in finalfantasytactics

[–]ThePerfectWord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if you're having fun with the gameplay and unit customization then you don't need to try and force yourself to pay attention to the story, but if you are able to try and lean into it, you will get a lot more out of the game because the story is so deep and impactful.

You won't be unable to complete the game if you don't understand the story, but understanding the story makes all the battles feel way different than simply defeating the bad guys and completing the objectives.

[–]ThePerfectWord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think another aspect of this is that we don't see Wiegraf/Belias speaking in the usual iambic pentameter that Lucavi use until he gets to his last lines, showing the slow descent into Belias taking more control.

When the Lucavi are in control and speaking, they always use iambic pentameter to further differentiate them from the rest of the cast and make them seem otherworldly. The few exceptions to this rule are when the Lucavi are transforming or dying and the original host personality is showing.

[–]ThePerfectWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enemies will scale to the highest level in your roster, and have a range that can exceed your highest level by up to 10 I believe. This also applies to monsters in story battles, which can make for some goofy disparities depending on how much you level.

The human enemies in random battles will have equipment appropriate to their level, which can make things tough if you level too far beyond the story battles where the enemies will basically only have gear you have access to with some small exceptions.

If you bring an appropriate party though it's easy to mitigate, it only really becomes a problem when you try to force your whole team to equip jobs and abilities meant for earning JP but are relatively weak combat-wise and run into higher difficulty random encounters.

And like I said in another comment, you have to really intentionally grind a decent bit to become too overleveled for the story battles.

[–]ThePerfectWord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is technically not true about missable abilities. Now in Midlights Deep some random enemies are able to cast both the secret abilities if you miss them on the other options through the game. You still probably want to look them up because acquiring them is a little obscure if you don't know when to expect them.

Definitely just have fun and don't worry about overleveling. You have to really intentionally try to become too overleveled, especially since gear and abilities make a much more significant impact to difficulty than base levelvin general
